Unreal Tournament

Did anyone else here play this game? I used to play a couple of years ago. It was fun.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

UT and SoF multi. Both had wacky castle maps.

This is one of the few FPS games that I actually like.
Awesome soundtrack and fun gameplay.
I really suck at this game, though. Must be because I don't play FPS games much.

The Dreamcast one was better then what? If your saying it was better then the PC game you have a screw loose. UT is fast paced action, the DC or PS2 controller takes to long to turn around. The mouse and keyboard are the ONLY way to play this game. Plus downloadable maps and skins provide almost unlimited play time. UT classic was awesome.. 03 was meh..(lightning rifle sucks). But UT04 is even better then them all. I'm sure 07 will beat them all. UT is one of my favorite PC video games. Good Stuff.

Very true. Playing UT at 720p on my LCD is one of the first great experiences I had with it (after DVDs of course). I modify this game to hell with skins, maps and mods. The fact that bots are so great adds to its staying power.
I love the original UT so much, that I'll snag UT2k4 when I get a newer PC.

This was one of the first PC games i played. Quite liked it as well even though I'm not a big fan of FPS. After a while though, I got bored with it and sold it.

Hate to break it to you, but 2k4 isn't much like original UT. It's fun, but very different.

Since I had a Mac back then I got UT so I could play mods. The biggest mod I ever got into was Unreal Fortress, like Team Fortress for Quake or TFC for Half-Life. Once I got a PC I went and tried TFC, but I have to say I liked UnF a lot better. They didn't try to copy TFC exactly (or at least they'd given up on it by the time I got into it) but instead came up with some of their own ideas like a Sentry Gun with two interchangeable guns (flak/minigun/rockets), a radar for the Ranger(Scout) class, and some great maps. Unfortunately, it wasn't too popular (neither was UT compared to Quake 3/HL) and eventually died off. What sucks even more is that a group tried to make Unreal Fortress for UT2k3/2k4, but never really finished it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I loved the original UT and played the hell out of it, even back when I was on a dial-up connection. I was pretty good at it too.

Unfortunately, I think they added too much to the next couple iterations, and I couldn't get into them nearly as much. I hated the vehicles and most of the new game modes in UT04, and wasn't crazy about the adreneline boosters they added either.

I add nothing to the conversation!

I use to love this game back in the day. The sniper rifle was just so much fun to kick ass with. I recently started playing it again and it's still kind of fun.

Does anyone else think this game had one of the best game soundtracks ever made? When 2k came out, one of the things I was looking forward to was the OST. But the original sound team broke up. I was kind of disspointed.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I 2nd the notion that UT2k4 isn't like UT99. It is still great and fun, but does not have the same flavor at all imho. I also 2nd the nod to the great music. I always remember the "intro" with the speech that would stutter (back when I had my 32MB of RAM Gateway Pentium 200mmx lol...)

Stock, UT99 is fast-paced fragging fun. Modded, it's really anything you want it to be. UT2k4 just never was able to be "zany" enough, as it took itself far too seriously. The Bender model/skin and voicepak = endless fun. Also, Monster Hunt adds serious chaos to any game type, and of course there is UT4E the ultimate mod...

I loved this game, I got it free with my dads old windows 98 computer years ago. It was the first game I really enjoyed. I loved all the unique weapons in the game and the super fast game play, the levels were really well done too.

Played back in '99. Still a long-time fan. Astounding music and good gameplay. A true classic.

Also, I need to re-play UT99 with Turbo. He was fun to play with.

I don't even remember the last time I play UT99. Except having a blast playing the game for countless hours. I still think UT99 is a great game, but I perfer UT2004.

I guess I should post in this thread even if only because I've chosen UT for the "name yourself after a videogame week". Obviously I really enjoyed the game, and I've actually started playing it again a bit after being introduced to the Strangelove mutator recently.

I was a huge fan of UT99 when it was first released. It was where I first honed my FPS skills online, and must have played countless hours against the bots. The game was just totally more polished and refined than Quake 3, as I remember the long-going battle between the two games.

I have great memories of the game, particularly in Capture the Flag, and Assault. The game was also helped greatly of course by the ton of classic maps like Facing Worlds, Morpheus, etc. It's also one of the few games where your starting gun (Enforcers) was actually half decent and fun to use once you picked up a second one.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I love UT as well, I still have it on my laptop. It's surprising how difficult the bots were in that game compared to most other games.

None of the other UTs I've played have done quite the same for me as the original, although I've played some enjoyable LAN sessions of UT 2004. The original UT was visceral, though, I don't think anything really compares.

I played the original Unreal, but had a huge gap until I was able to save up for a graphics card to play UT2K4. I must say, UT2K4 is one of the MOST CHAOTIC games I have ever played and it is damn fun with a lot of people. You seriously can't play this with a console controller because you need to keep moving and turning around every half a second. Mouse+Keyboard is the way this must be played, lest you like getting owned when you respawn.

Now I have a sudden urge to pick this up again. It's still installed on my computer, and doesn't take much to run at all, but haven't actually played it in a while.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've still got UT on my HDD. My first FPS with alternate fire weapons... and what an experience. Any other game in the genre without this has seemed lacking by comparison, because why settle for just 10 weapons when I have can have 20?

UT99 is probably the best FPS I've ever played. Though Deathball for UT04 and RealCTF for Unreal 1 are probably the best experiences I've had playing an FPS. ROCKET ARENA OMG.
