Slim PS2 Problems (Uh-oh! "not this thread...")
I've read about the slim PS2's horror-filled problems and I'm just writing this thread so that I can try to fix my girlfriend's slim PS2.
Although I'm no expert with the jargon of computers and modding etc, I have the practical skills to be able to attempt the try to fix the problem that my girlfriend has been having with the PS2 on the first day she bought it. The problem is her slim PS2 doesn't read any discs at all. It is able to go to the menu screen but that's about it. It apparently happened on the first couple of days when she got it (Christmas 2005). She was playing Superman, got bored and then turned off the PS2. Since then she hasn't been able to play it and Sony snubbed her from fixing the PS2, saying that it wasn't their problem. She also went to the store in which she got it from, but you know the drill of these situations... Anyway, I've tried google searching sites that may have instructions into fixing it but to no avail. We're willing to risk killing the PS2 (since you can get it for ultra cheap these days) so if there are any suggestions or instructions we'd be grateful for them. Oh, and to getting a PS3 as a solution: NO. Not until 3 years later or something. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Did she watch DVD with the PS2?
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Nope all she did was play a game for 10 minutes. It's most likely dead already so I'm willing to open it up and muck with it. The warranty was gone 2 years ago. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix it?
How ya doing, buddy? |
PS2 are notorious for having the lenses go to crap. Your options are to find someone who has experience with this issue and replace it, or find a way to trick Sony into believing that you have a valid warranty on your hardware.
So pretty much, you're screwed and what most people end up doing is buying a new one. See if you can raise some money if you promise to destroy it in a creative way. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |

You'll get a lot of technical information from the Hardware Help forums there. You might find that the cost of a new lens is more than you're willing to pay. The PS2 can be found pretty cheap, as you have correctly stated. I was speaking idiomatically. |
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
