Thread title of the century.

Does anyone know any 'goths' that are older than twenty? All I ever see is stupid little goth girls. I hope it's just a passing phase.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Perhaps this will fit better in General Discussion for now.

And without the crappy font tags in the title. Or not.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Indeed I do. I know a few older than 30 and 40. They are pretty crazy. They all worship some satanic guy who wears a pyramid on his head..

Pretty funny webpage btw.

There is a goth crowd in Chicago, and along with them, their is a goth night club: Neo. I have to admit, I don't care much for goth taste, but when they have their "depressing sway" in unison, it looks really damn cool. Also the older goth crowd dresses much better, and much more consistent with a goth feel than the younger crowd.

Yes, especially with his 'hail Satan' signature.
Is Gothic really "in"? I daresay that few associated with myself or my friends are truly goth.
Seems like it's a fad in any case.

Being gothic (not structurally) seems to be a phase. I believe that people grow out of it. Honestly, can any of you picture an elderly goth person? I don't treat it like a fad because I'm not sure if it'll go out of style. However, I do compare it to stages of development where the child becomes rebellious and temporarily stops listening to their parents' or parent's instruction.

How ya doing, buddy?

I like how the "goth" stereotype has now turned into "emo" so rapidly.

It's basically a trend, which is usually associated with music. I've never seen a goth myself, but I'm sure they exist. I don't know how anybody could stand being one for a long period of time, it's about as intelligent as cutting yourself for bragging rights. Then again, Cradle of Filth wouldn't sell a single album if they didn't represent themselves as gothic symbols.

Most of the "Goth" you see is not really Goth. It's naïve kids imitating the bad representations of Goth you see in 1990's movies. And yes, it's a passhing phase, so laugh loud and openly at them while you still have the chance.

By the way, I was in high school from '95 until '00. It was damned funny when most of the goths at school were into Marilyn Manson, and then Marilyn Manso just dropped the Gothic image all of a sudden.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I think during that time period, most of the dancing was done by travelling shows. For the most part, I think that dancing was outlawed, or at least discouraged, by the Roman Church.
Following this line of thinking, perhaps you should look up some gypsy dances.

I always just assumed that they sway back and forth with legs rooted firmly in place, much like normal teens at a depressing concert. Changing the imaginary lightbulb sounds intriguing.

In all honesty, I have never met a gothic person who was so totally "gothic" that they would not be at all active. All people have passions, and the gothic people that I have known usually have a tendency to rock out to metal music just as much as the next person.
In other words, I don't think there is really any specal form of gothic dance. They just ultimately do what everyone else does.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Of course, this "inactive" dance style is fully derived from the pot that was smoked just prior to engaging in the dancing activity.

Actually in Holland it's more of one of the many big lifestyles.

I know a lot of older people that wear those weird gothic dresses. It just makes them look fat though.

My town is full of little girls playing goth, my 14 yr old sister is one of them. :\ Well, the site was pretty funny to me, but to her...it got me yelled at just now.

I know a few older people who do the whole goth look, but more or less it's a teenage kind of thing, esp with fourteen yr olds right now. Eh, they are going to get older, out grow that phase, look back on the pictures of them selves during that phase and go "ICK!"
Thank god I never went through that phase...

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Theres not many "Goths" around here, just little girls trying to act it. It's not quite as "in" as it was, a few years back when I was finishing high school, the place was full of them....It's quite funny (in a sick kind of way) really, some of them get all the tattoos and the piercings, then later when they try to grow out of it...!

Jam it back in, in the dark.
