Hit TV show "24" coming to big screen: report
Thursday June 8 1:04 PM ET

The real-time TV thriller "24" is headed to the big screen under a deal between movie studio 20th Century Fox and the show's producers, trade paper Daily Variety said on Thursday.

The Hollywood publication said no deals are in place with the cast, although star Kiefer Sutherland -- an executive producer of the series -- has said he would like to reprise his role as sleep-deprived action hero Agent Jack Bauer in a feature version.

However, the paper said the "24" movie would likely abandon the TV show's distinctive real-time conceit, meaning that all the murder and mayhem will no longer be squeezed into one day. A rough plot outline has been drafted, but no details have been disclosed, it said.

Fox, a unit of News Corp., struck a deal with series creators Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow, who will write the script, and executive producer Howard Gordon, who will work on the story, Daily Variety said. The feature could potentially shoot next spring and summer during the hiatus between season six and a likely seventh season of "24."

Okay, so we all knew this was happening anyway, but now it has been made official. Discuss!

Hmm, pretty interesting. The title isn't going to make sense since the movie's not going to be in real-time. I wonder what they will call the movie now.

I think it'll be interesting to see what they do with the story~ They have quite a few gaps in the TV series they could do, I suppose, or maybe even a prequel to the first season~~~~ Heck, I suppose they could dispose with that entirely, but I think it would be more interesting if, even if the name doesn't fit without the real-time, the story coincided somehow XD.

/end random babbling XD;;;.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hmm, maybe this movie would explain what happens to Jack after getting captured by the Chinese government. Ehh... but then again, there's the next season, so that theory is out.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

The story will not be connected in any way to the seasons.

Also, Jack will probably be yelling at people in more than one country, since abandoning the 24 hour format will allow him to travel internationally.

Hmm, this idea of dumping the real time formula is destroying what has made 24 the show it is.

I hope they don't change too much.

Based on other news, it most likely will take place (storywise) between seasons 6 and 7.

Theoretically, they could still write a movie in which everything happens within one day. This way, the name of the movie could still be 24. Maybe, just maybe, they'll finally write something terrible not based in Los Angeles.

a movie for 24 would kill it in my opinion. the nice thing about it is that it goes on 24 hours, while a movie only goes on like 2 or a bit more hours... which kills the whole time thing...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
