QUAKE LIVE
Anybody else get in? I'm a little hesitant to jump right in with the sharks after nothin' but bot practice.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I've had an account for a few months, but I've not yet really played for more than an hour at a time. I somehow tend to get consistently matched up with people around the same level of skill as me, so it's not the online suckfest Q3A was back when I really sucked at it.
If anyone wants an invite, I've got a stack of them. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I'd actually love an invite. I've been interested as to how this whole thing has turned out.
My email is dark.jinn@gmail.com. Thank you so much, Krel! Most amazing jew boots |
Invite sent.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
A friend and I used to rock this game when it first came out, (The Dragonball Z mod was one of the most fun multiplayer games I had) but after playing some of the people that live and breathe this game, I'm worried a bit about how long it will survive.
I'm sure I'll play regardless of how badly I get my butt kicked. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Pang, what's your username? I'm up for a few quick ronuds.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Just tried this out. I don't think I've been stomped so hard in my entire life. My name is McFisticuffs if anyone wants to add me.
FELIPE NO |
I'm Saxypunch (as usual)
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
SuperMo0 over here.

I am Haughm.

I'm impressed with how well this is implemented. The site is well-done, the matchmaking is easy to use, and it feels really full-featured for a beta.
I was also quickly reminded why I don't play FPSes. Good god do I suck hard. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I'm always up for a new multiplayer game, I'd really appreciate an invite so I can try this out. My email is valvados@gmail.com. Thanks so much.

Also, cannot stand Arena mode. Full access to all weapons, last man standing? Kinda sucks all the excitement out of the game. Oh, and my name on there is Skexis. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Thanks again, Krel!
From the first ten minutes of play time, I can say that this is looking pretty cool. I will be adding quite a few of you to my friends, so don't be wary when you get an invite from GreenTeaThief. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I've been playing Q3 for years and I got my ass kicked on the very first duel. Their matchmaking stuff needs a lot of work, I'm not even close to being as good as the people I'm being set up with. I like the little revisions they did to most of the maps, though. I miss the gibs, those sparks just don't do it for me.
I'll send you an invite, Val. FELIPE NO |
I was thinking about the matchmaking, and it could be that the pool of players just isn't big enough at this point, so even if a game says "skill matched," it might have 1-3 people that are hardcore players and the rest are nubs or around your level.
It's tough, tougher than any other FPS I've played, but I hope that once I learn the maps a bit better (or maybe even just play a duel round or two) I'll be able to go toe-to-toe with some of the better guys. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Open beta starts tomorrow. Your invites are now obsolete.

I can tell a HUGE difference already in the player pool after open beta started. There were only about 7000 users in the closed beta, and that's had to have doubled based on the queue line I saw last night (13700), so the CTF I played seemed a lot more evenly matched for me. The little aptitude test they give you before you fight Crash is good too, because it gauges the kind of skills you're able to do. It took me a second to figure out that the expert level test was a timing thing, but after that, it only took me a couple of tries to get through the door.
It's easy to tell that they adjusted the damage for railgun and rocket launcher. Armor seems to make much more of a difference now than in the game I remember. Jump in, guys! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I just signed up for this to give me something else to do at lunchtimes but it's been a looooong time since I played Quake. Still, username is EdCanDo if anyone wants to add me.
