Castlevania (2007)

There was a thread before the last crash of Paul W. S. Anderson doing a Castlevania film. (Could be post-crash, I can't remember) Well after some snooping I found the poster for it released by Universal in November of last year:

I haven't been able to find much info, but IMDB has two names up (both with rumored beside them) Jonathon Frakes to play some Grandfather and someone named Darya Zabinski to be Sonia. As it being on IMDB, I'm taking those with a grain of salt.

When more info comes along, I'll be sure to add or let other people add.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Event Horizon is the only decent film he has made, infact I can't believe that it was one of the first, where did he go wrong!?!?

As for this movie I will be rushing out to see it..

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Jonathan Frakes? Interesting. He looks like my dad.
I may or may not be interested in this, but probably not. Event Horizon scared the shit out of me when I was younger, also. It was a great movie, but freaky.

Sonia?

As in Sonia Belmont? (Assuming that they're going that route)

The one Belmont that Koji Igarashi retconned out of the official timeline?

This oughta be fun. :P

OMG! PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS! I'm not looking forward to this at all! I sincerely hope this is fake. (...but if it isn't I'll probably watch it anyway since I'm weak).

Just hope it is a fake because it looks awfully real.

Also interesting to see Sonia on the big screen since she got bombed when Leon was actually the first Belmont to fight Dracula. lololol~

He was/is also involved in the two sequels to Resident Evil, and we all know how the second turned out.
I'm hoping that he can make something of this, but it's not looking too promising with the film history that he has. (Event Horizon being the exception)

"Dracula Begins" lol-ing like a maniac.

Still, Event Horizon freaked me out, so I hope he could make a mistake and do a good movie. Still, it probably boils down to some boob shots, some cheap vampires and bad dialogue. Perhaps I'll see it in the cinema. It might be the 14 bucks worth in ticket price...

How ya doing, buddy?

It doesn't look like it's a real ad to be honest...but if it does come out.. I'm hope that they do the story justice.

How on earth can anyone hope to take a video game like Castlevania, run it through the 'video game to overused cheap CG action flick' transition machine, and expect any sort of resemblance to be left intact? Let me guess. The film opens up with an extremely cheap looking CG Dracula giving his "What is man" speech and what follows is 90 minutes of some dude no way related to game hunting cheap looking CG vampires culminating in the final duel between dude and dracula. The film ends with Dracula's castle inexplicably turning upside down with big red font, "TO BE CONTINUED".

I'll go see this.

I wish the Japanese would realize that they should stop giving out movie rights to asshat directors like Paul Anderson and Uwe Boll.

Also, that subtitle "Dracula Begins" is a joke title Anderson tacked on to the movie. I'm hoping the poster is fake because if he's going to fuck around with a franchise that could make an incredible movie...then I hope someone assassinates him.

I know the Castlevania and Vampire Hunter D franchises are not related, but I'll chose VHD:Bloodlust any day over whatever this untalented fucker could possibly conceive. When will people stop holding up that "Event Horizon didn't suck" sign? After he has made a Zelda movie, Batman ('60s TV series) style?

I still don't understand how the man managed to screw up Aliens Vs Predator. Hell, it makes itself, two lethal aliens killing each other, but nooooo. Instead of focusing of the awesome aliens, we have to watch the humans.

If the whole movie had been just like the beginning where you see the predators killing hundreds of aliens on top of the pyramids it would have been so much better.

I believe he's involved with some sort of animated series or miniseries done by Studio IG. Don't quote me on that, I'm only going on memory.

No, he's writing the aforementioned cartoon. He's mentioned it on his official site.

If Warren Ellis wrote the script to the movie it might actually be worth something... but noooo, it's Paul fucking Anderson. *sigh*

Paul W.S. Anderson Off Castlevania!

Quote:
You know a project is in trouble when Paul W.S. Anderson, a man who's spent almost his entire career turning potentially cool movies into steaming piles of pooh, leaves a film.

Such is the case with Castlevania, or so a very reliable source revealed to us recently. The film, based on the long-running video game franchise from Konami, has been in development hell since it was first announced, but Anderson’s always been on as director and writer. Apparently either he didn’t like where the project was going or didn’t feel like waiting anymore, because now he’s off all together.
What can it all mean? Is the movie that shitty? Or did the producers realize that Paul blows balls?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It has a release date of 2009 now on IMDB. If he's off of it, perhaps Konami wants it to be taken more seriously?

Well thats good news, at least. I'm hoping the movie will be decent enough to justify my 7.50 at the movies on a Saturday afternoon (fuck going there when all the teenagers are around during the night). I've loved the Castlevania games for awhile, but there really is no story to speak of thats special, but similar to 300, thats not what I'd be looking for in this film.

Hopefully something will come of this project, but more than likely, it'll get canned.

A small update (albeit it being from August)

According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, Death Sentence screenwriter Ian Jeffers "is completely re-writing Castlevania for Rogue Pictures." The previous version was written by Paul W.S. Anderson, who dropped out to helm the Death Race remake instead. It had been reported that White would use Anderson's script as the basis for his adaptation and that the pair would collaborate on a rewrite, but that apparently didn't pan out.

Variety reported in June that Castlevania will shoot in the late fall in South Africa and Romania, with a late 2008 release planned.
So Anderson's script isn't going to be used in any format (if I read correctly) and he dropped out to do Death Race (lawl). Even though it's not anything grand-scale such as casting or anything, knowing Anderson's stink isn't involved in the movie anymore can only mean good things. Right?
