2006 College Football Season

The 2006 College Football season is going to be starting soon, so I'm going to start the thread devoted to it. Here are the two big rankings for college football the AP and the USA Today (both are for week one of the 2006 season):

Week 1 AP Top 25
1. Ohio State (35) 0-0 1,558
2. Notre Dame (10) 0-0 1,470
3. Texas (8) 0-0 1,411
4. Auburn (3) 0-0 1,395
5. West Virginia (6) 0-0 1,354
6. USC (3) 0-0 1,345
7. Florida 0-0 1,178
8. LSU 0-0 1,144
9. California 0-0 975
10. Oklahoma 0-0 960
11. Florida State 0-0 949
12. Miami (FL) 0-0 893
13. Louisville 0-0 844
14. Michigan 0-0 824
15. Georgia 0-0 743
16. Iowa 0-0 720
17. Virginia Tech 0-0 614
18. Clemson 0-0 479
19. Penn State 0-0 386
20. Nebraska 0-0 332
21. Oregon 0-0 324
22. TCU 0-0 257
23. Tennessee 0-0 215
24. Arizona State 0-0 182
25. Texas Tech 0-0 181

Week 1 USA Today Poll
1. Ohio State (28) 0-0 1,487
2. Texas (11) 0-0 1,378
3. USC (1) 0-0 1,348
3. Notre Dame (9) 0-0 1,348
5. Oklahoma (13) 0-0 1,320
6. Auburn (1) 0-0 1,206
7. West Virginia 0-0 1,202
8. Florida 0-0 1,054
9. LSU 0-0 1,037
10. Florida State 0-0 874
11. Miami (FL) 0-0 839
12. California 0-0 798
13. Louisville 0-0 785
14. Georgia 0-0 784
15. Michigan 0-0 778
16. Virginia Tech 0-0 591
17. Iowa 0-0 519
18. Clemson 0-0 493
19. Penn State 0-0 406
20. Oregon 0-0 373
21. TCU 0-0 270
22. Nebraska 0-0 261
23. Tennessee 0-0 216
24. Alabama 0-0 210
25. Texas Tech 0-0 198
------------

I like how Notre Dame is so high on both polls. #2 on the AP and tied for #3 on the USA Today poll. I'm sure people are going to say that Notre Dame is overrated and that they are that high because of who they are and not how good they are. But, I figure wait until the games start being played before criticizing Notre Dame and how high they have been ranked.

My team, Auburn, is ranked 4 and 6, which is nice and all. A lot of people around here, Alabama and Auburn fans alike, are speculating that they will be playing in the National Championship game this year. Unfortunately I think these people are going to be disappointed. I expect that this is going to be a fun season once it gets started, and once players stop getting forcibly removed from teams due to various violations. Totally looking forward to it.

OH NO!!!!! Auburn fans know how to use a computer??? lol... just kidding dude. i'm a UGA fan. I have family members who went there. i ususally go to 2-3 games/yesr "between the hedges".
Yes, i did go to the damn AU/UGA game last year. what a game! i can't believe Cox throw the bomb to the receiver. how the hell he'd get so open?? f-n dawg defense.
I predict a 9-2 season. We'll lose to Florida (again) and Auburn (again). Kenny Irons will run all over us. But Quentoin Moses will make Cox pay for not handing the ball off.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I wonder how USC will do this season. We lost two Heisman that are not easily replaced. Many key players have left.

Arkansas Razorbacks will show how versatile USC. Or not. But I have faith in my team and Pete Caroll.

Fight on! And fuck the Razorbacks.

It seems like Arkansas is being vastly overrated right now just because people want to see them upset USC. Arkansas is going to come out looking very bad: I think USC is gonna walk all over them.

Good game on ESPN right now between Michigan and Vanderbilt. Michigan is up 7-0, but Vanderbilt doesn't look like it's just gonna roll over.

Other than my team's opener today (Arizona, BYU visiting), I'm quite excited about the Cal/Tennessee game. I want to see how Cal's back does at a place like Neyland.

IT'S GAME DAY MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

Finally!

Last year, we (Trojans) beat Arkansaw 70-17. Totally ass fucked. Most of Arkansaw's starting line ups are verterans. Our offense and defense are pretty much of new players. Also with a new quarterback, Booty, though he did play some games. But we will beat them again. Fight on!

You guys should also watch the Notre Dame game. I'm curious if they can live up to the hype.

There is not a single team I hate more than Notre Dame. I don't even hate any other teams (other than our rival, ASU). Their situation is so absolutely ridiculous. I hope Georgia Tech beats the crap out of them (and I think they can, Notre Dame is always overrated by about 5-15 positions to start the season).

UT won big today over North Texas 56-7. It was expected it would be a blow out.

xman25

Double Post:
At least Notre Dame scored a touchdown at the end of the first half. They are looking really rusty right now. I hope the touchdown gives them some momentum for the second half. Notre Dame doesn't look like the number 2 team in the country right now.

Brady Quinn's awareness has been really terrible so far. He's taking far to long to find an open receiver. Once he does find them, though, he isn't even very accurate. I really don't see him as being the top Heisman candidate this year.

Yeah, I guess Brady doesn't have his "A-game" today. Notre Dame just scored a touchdown. I hope their defense doesn't screw up enough to blow the game. So far it doesn't look like there has been much of an improvment from last year. Georgia Tech hasn't scored more yet because of them stoping themselves more than Notre Dame is stoping them.

Based on the game played so far against Georgia Tech, can we start criticizing Notre Dame, saying that they're overrated and that they don't deserve to be ranked #2 and #3 now?

In other college football news, Colorado still sucks.

GT took out Auburn in the opener last season; I wouldn't mind seeing them upset ND today. It's looking possible right now, with 10 minutes left in the game, ND up 14-10 and GT having the ball right now. Last year I got tired of hearing this announcer saying Reggie Ball this and Reggie Ball that. I think tonight I want to hear his name called a few more times.

If Tech can pull out the upset, and Auburn can beat Mississippi State next week {lol}, then Auburn would be ranked number 2 after next week's games, since Ohio State and Texas, both ranked ahead of Auburn, are playing each other.

Auburn looked pretty decent today, though slightly inconsistent. They settled for 4 straight field goals to open, then finally put one into the end zone and basically rolled.

Double Post:
Well it's basically over now. ND just has to kneel a time or two and head home.

Yes, Notre Dame won!!!! 14-10. Gutsy call to go for it on fourth and one at mid-field with 1:10, but they made it. Even though I love Notre Dame, they really did NOT look like the number 2 team in the country. I think they'll be lucky to stay in the top 5. I think the announcers of the game are right, Notre Dame survived this game. The better get it's shit together if they want to stay in championship contention.

It was nice to know that everyone overrated the crap out of Notre Dame.

It is not nice to know that the media and the fans will never learn.

I was glad to see USC blow out Arkansas. Slow start, but Booty looked terrific. USC's QB, who never played a meaningful down, looked quite a bit better than ol' Heisman hopeful Quinn.

Marshaun Lynch also looked very average against Tennessee. Interesting how many questions were answered so early on this season.

My team (Arizona) looks like crap against BYU right now. Sigh.

I'm really gearing up now for that Ohio State/Texas game next week. This ABC Saturday Night Football is programming genius. I'll start planning my Saturday's around it like people used to play their Monday's around the NFL. Great games every week.

Go Trojans!

Too bad it wasn't like last year where we beat them by over 50 points. Oh well. We scored 50 points so it's all good.

I was actually a bit nervous on how our team would do. Good to see we have yet again another solid team.

While I am basically ambivalent towards Tennessee, and all of the other SEC teams besides Auburn, I absolutely love seeing SEC teams beat up on non-SEC teams, especially when it is a higher ranked non-SEC team. Sorry Cal, but you can't compete with the SEC powerhouses like the Tennessees, Floridas, Auburns, Georgias, and LSUs. With Texas and Ohio State playing next weekend, that will open the door for an SEC team to step up and make a run at the national title game.

Amen brotha! Realistically, I don't think UGA can make a title run, but they can certainly make it back to the SEC championship game. As i said before , they'll lose to FLA and maybe Auburn this year.

I'm not too surprised to see Notre Dame still there, overrated pricks.

Notre Dame got 5 more 1st place votes in the AP poll than USC, who also went on the road to the deep south and completely blew out the team they were playing. How did anyone put Notre Dame as #1 over Ohio State or Texas? Are they fucking insane?

This also shows what's wrong with the polls: Florida State only got a 1 or 2 place bonus for beating Miami. How can the coaches say that Florida State's performance (beating a Top 15 team on the road) was only 1 spot better than Oklahoma's (barely squeaking out a win over UAB)?

And West Virginia. I mean, they're good, and with Louisville's RB out for the rest of the year, they'll walk over the Big East. But getting first place votes is laughable. They'll be in the BCS, they may even be undefeated, but they don't have a murder's row of a schedule to go through like Florida and Auburn. Ohio State or Texas will knock out one of those from the possibility of the top spot next week, USC and Notre Dame will do the same later.

Usually I don't get all worked up over this until bowl season. I hate how the NCAA ruins what could be the best sport over an entire season by giving it such a weak finale.

Welp, here we go, week #2.

The big game, of course, is Ohio State/Texas. I'm liking Texas in this game, mostly because it's in Austin. I think it's going to be nice and close, though, should be a really great game.

Penn State at Notre Dame...I think ND will win, even though I really, really hope PSU knocks them off. ND is overrated, but I never go into a season believing in Penn State anymore.

All of us here in Tucson are hoping for the upset over LSU but...eh, wah. We'll lose by 3 TDs probably.

Auburn has shut out Mississippi State 34 to nothing, and while Auburn played well, they didn't play like a team that I can expect to contend for the championship this year. On a positive note, however, their kicker hit a 55 yard field goal today.

I expect OSU/Texas to end 42-28 OSU; and I am hoping for a Penn State win over Notre Dame.

And yeah, don't hold your breath on Arizona upsetting LSU, it's going to be uglier than the Cal/Tennessee game.
