Into the Depths -- Lady Jedi's poetry
For a while, I've been having frequent random urges to write poetry. So, to get back into the swing of posting on the forums, here's a few poems.
"Lullaby of the Damned" Up the street Not across the road That's the way The story goes. That's the way To end my woes. It's all too quiet The walls are black. Darkness descends And the silence is back. Alone, all alone In the box of stone. Not up, not down Not sideways No air No sound Not a soul around. The box confines me... Up the street Not across the road That's the way The story goes. That's the way To end my woes. It's all too cold The walls are blue Little heat clings to me. Oh how my heart sings to me A sound of melancholy In the box of ice. Up and down Air and sound Freezing all around. I shiver and slither Across the icy floor. The box chills me... Up the street Not across the road That's the way The story goes. That's the way To end my woes. It's all too hot The walls are red. Here's now The part to dread. Burning, oh burning In the box of flame. Up and down, Air and sound, Fire burning me down. Heat licking, caressing my skin. Oh where oh where Did this torment begin? The box chars me... Up the street Not across the road That's the way The story goes. That's the way To end my woes. "Turning Point" Kiss me, kiss me, Sway me, sway me. Do you even know what The meaning of life is? It's there. Why can't you see? Its right there For all to see. Don't you get it? This is the turning point. Turn to life. Turn to death. Turn to health. Turn to nothingness. But just turn... Dust, dust, death, death, There's nothing left to breathe. It's time to go. Follow the grey They know where to go. Do you? Have you ever known? I don't think so. Don't you get it? This is the turning point. Turn to life. Turn to death. Turn to health. Turn to nothingness. But just turn... Crypt, crypt, crept, crept, Kept, kept. But not the kept anymore. Ashes, ashes, It's all ashes now. Turned to ashes and dust. Ashes, ashes, Dust, dust. Don't you get it? This is the turning point. Turn to life. Turn to death. Turn to health. Turn to nothingness. But just turn... "I'm Not (the Goddess for You)" Why do you keep on callin'? Why do you keep on fallin'? Why do you keep on cryin'? Why do you keep on sighin'? I'm not the One who bore you. I'm not the One to adore you. I'm not the One who saves you. I'm not the One who craves you. I'm not The Goddess You make me out to be. It all began so suddenly, Faster than my heart could see. But I knew it wasn't to be, You're not the one for me. I'm not the One who bore you. I'm not the One to adore you. I'm not the One who saves you. I'm not the One who craves you. I'm not The Goddess You make me out to be. When you call, I'm not listenin'. When you fall, I'm not Catchin' You. When you cry, I'm not cryin'. When you sigh, I don't mind. I Never Wanted You. I told you to move on. I told you to get a life. But I guess I misspoke Since you went for the knife. I'm not the One who bore you. I'm not the One to adore you. I'm not the One who saves you. I'm not the One who craves you. I'm not The Goddess You make me out to be. You were on your knees Crawling toward me. Why couldn't you have Opened your emotions Before you opened your veins? I'm not the One who bore you. I'm not the One to adore you. I'm not the One who saves you. I'm not the One who craves you. I'm not The Goddess You make me out to be. A Goddess could have saved you... Jam it back in, in the dark.
Save your tears for the day
When our pain is far behind On your feet, come with me We are soldiers stand or die Save your fears, take your place Save them for the judgement day Fast and free, follow me Time to make the sacrifice We rise or fall |
"Silenced in the screaming” ((Depche Mode – “Precious” inspired))
I think I heard a sound. I’m not sure; it wasn’t loud. I listen again, straining to hear But what was spoken isn’t there. And so I wonder… Is my heart open? Is my heart broken? I know I’m not dreaming Those silenced in the screaming. I took a walk around here Asking all the questions Looking for the answers But found nothing that satisfied me. I can’t help but wonder Is your heart open? Is my heart broken? Was it done through scheming To silence the others through screaming? I wasn’t alone. I figured out that much. I wanted you to know You were losing touch. But instead of recognizing How the decision was agonizing The pain became blinding To the point of denying That I was even there. I no longer wonder My heart was open, Your heart was broken, I’m still disbelieving I was silenced in the screaming. “Kain’s Lament” (monologue of Kain, vampire of The Legacy of Kain series; not so much poetry but why not?) In the many years of my unnatural life, I have exacted vengeance, conquered nations, Spilled rivers of blood, And have played the roles of pawn to God, Manipulated to manipulator. I have few regrets. But there is one I still ponder. Umah. Oh, what a sight to behold in my weakened state But you standing there in the doorway. Those eyes! Those luscious legs! The curve of your…hmm, lips. ((throaty chuckle)) What impressed me most Was your cunning. You had all the necessary qualities To be my Queen. We could have ruled together, Umah and I. ((sneers)) I have no doubt that her ambitions would have eventually led to a parting of ways And to her ruin. Still, I believe she would have made for a more than…tolerable companion. ((dismissively)) Perhaps it was best for you to betray me, Umah, then instead of having the inevitability of Your treachery hanging overhead like a dark cloud. Pity that you could not subvert your ambitions. ((quietly, thoughtfully)) A pity. “Raziel’s Descent” (monologue of Raziel, vampire/Soul Reaver of Legacy of Kain series; again not so much poetry but if you let one character have a monologue quite naturally the other one demands to have one too ) If I were to ever feel a glimmering Though of forgiveness towards Kain, The memory of descent My fall from grace Cleanly burns such thought away. Ah, burn! The agony! Do you have any idea what it would be like To have every fiber Every ounce Of your being Screaming in eternal torment? No? I have been close. While my current state of being Does not pain me As the fall through the lake did, The scars of memory Run deep. Kain… If you only knew that burning, Then you would know the depths of my hatred, The lengths that I would go For my vengeance Against you. Kain… I am coming for you. And not even an act of God Will save your treacherous skin Now. There's nowhere I can't reach.

Hm. That's some awfully morose stuff. I have some feedback:
I implore you to write some stuff without rhyming. English is such a shitty language for rhyming in poetry. That it can often ruin your intent, especially when you make that a standard mode of your writing. Of course, there are sonnets and villianelles which emply rhyming. Also, are the legacy of kain ones written by you or are they from the game? Also: I'm not the One who bore you. the 'bore' adjective seems to go against the meaning of "the goddess that you make me out to be" why would being a goddess bore the person / him? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. In your dreams, magical thoughts All things are real, unless you dream they're not

Aquas: I have to admit, rhyming is a bit of a cop out I used for the emo poetry (i.e. its easy to fall into, easy to do, etc). So, yeah, venting emo poetry is not my best stuff. I'll take your suggestion to heart.
"The Fool" Step up, step up, Step lightly on up. The sky is clear, The sun is bright. The path is ahead, It's up to you To choose right, Or is it left? Or should you turn around? Oh no! Forward, forward You must go. Adventure, excitement. Folly, youth. But watch out! There's the cliff! I wrote the Legacy of Kain monologues myself based off the game and based off what the characters might had said but didn't (Kain speaking about Umah is partly based off of knowing an alternate sound track where the game designers had thought about having him save Umah or be more remorseful about him killing her but they decided against it). Bore: to bring forth (young); give birth to: to bear a child. I meant to convey the sense of having created the person (i.e. I'm not your mother, I'm not your lover, etc), not that the person is bored with the goddess. Does that make more sense? (I hope) I appreciate that you took the time to reply, Thank you. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I like the Raziel's Descent uh song, because that's how I read it. I felt it would be great done in an Iced Earth style with some powerful vocals like Matt Barlow. I thought of the song Dracula they did.
