cd drive problems
I've had my blu-ray drive since about Sept. I've watched movies on it a handful of times. Today I went to reinstall EAC to rip some new cds I just got in and after a very trying time to get it to install, my drive will not recognize DVDs anymore. I can play CDs and Blu-ray discs, but not DVDs. Also it started doing something weird yesterday and that was dropping my internet connection for about 5 seconds everytime I opened the tray with a movie in the drive.
I know it was EAC cause the drive read just fine before. I thought uninstalling would help, but it hasn't. Anyhelp short of just reformatting everything? :\ edit: I fixed the problem I just deleted. The current problem still stands where my drive won't read DVDs, and now blurays. I think somehow the drive got recognized as just a regular CD drive, as it won't even list it as a liteon drive. How ya doing, buddy? |
Wark! |
perhaps remove the entry in hardware manager, unplug the drive, and reinstall the drivers/drive?
that would do it i would think (especially since you mentioned it wasn't be recognized properly as it stands) There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I recently reformatted to see if that would help and it looks like I'll have to get my discs to reinstall everything to see if that works. If not my drive is probably fucked and I'll have to get another. (Luckily it's under warranty and I still have the receipt for it).
But apparently it seems reformatting also caused me (somehow) to lose about 400GB from my harddrive (it was a 1.5 TB drive) as before I had 1.3 space free, but now only about 1 TB free with it saying 400 is in use... blah This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Ehh? What does it say in Disk Management? (Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc)
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
(C: )
1397.25 GB NTFS Healthy (system) then another area states: Capacity 1397.25 Free Space: 996.53GB 71% Free I haven't installed shit I didn't have before the format (and nothing worth a 400GB size) Unless that drive is failing now too... Most amazing jew boots |
Well, 1397.25 GB is indeed 1,500,000,000,000 bytes. You didn't lose anything, but perhaps you 'gained' some junk files during the reformat.
Perhaps you would like to peek inside \System Volume Information to see if it's hogging space. You'll need to take ownership first. Alternatively, run Spacemonger 1.6 and visually see what's taking up the hard disk space. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
hmm. I ran that Spacemonger and there was a section that was listed "unscannable". I take it that's bad? How do I check that system volume.
FELIPE NO |
There's a hidden directory called "System Volume Information" on drive C:. You need to set Explorer to show all hidden and system files, and then manually take ownership, giving yourself the proper privileges to be able to even view what's inside. This is where Microsoft puts down System Restore information.
Step by step: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309531 The other reason you might have unscannable sectors is that the space has been marked as "bad" by the file system. Chkdsk can help you with, well, checking this. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I did that and still couldn't see what could be eating up the 400GB. =\ I don't think chkdsk came up with anything either. bleh
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
