Virus question, infected files

When the virus software detects a virus, it usually quantifies (am I using the right term here?) or packs the infected file and places it in a special folder.
What happens with that file if I uninstall the virus software...?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I think the term you want is quarantine. I haven't really tried it, but I assume that the file will be deleted.

Edit:

After searching a bit, I'd have to say, depends on the program.

http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php...&postID=682432 - Avira may or may not delete it
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...e?OpenDocument - Norton asks you.

So your mileage will differ.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I have NOD32 on my stationary PC and AVG Free on my laptop.
Hmmm..gotta check it out.

Thank you for your reply Zergrinch.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
