Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
Wonderboy, won't you take me far away from the mucky-muck man, oh! Watch out, Sega's back in town. But it's okay! They're releasing a Wonderboy collection soon!
Now with link! And this somehow got me thinking of Wonderboy. It sure did go in a completely complex direction! From a massive noggin, grass skirt wearing guy throwing axes at snails, to.. cutting shit with swords.. changing into dragons and ended up as a green hair girly with no mention of Wonderboy in the title at all. Possibly because it starred a green hair girly. Another now dead series. I blame everything on this! That way I know I can win. Here, let me take some screenshots and type words! Hey WHOA it's Wonderboy. Wouldn't wanna mess with him. Too bad someone did. They took his GIRL. "This is a disaster I'd better kill all the snails and bats". Run around, collect fruit to stay away from death, throw axes, collect dolls, jump over rocks because they hurt you, jump over fire because it burns you, jump over pits because they..well, they kill you. You could also find handbags and they'd make you zoom into the clouds with a hilarious sound effect and zero animation. Why? So you can collect hearts, then get another handbag which will put you back on the ground, even though it'll show you going UP again. True story. Play it just for those good times alone! Yeah skateboards too! They were pretty much a curse though, with Wonderboy's lack of sick trickz 'n' skillz on the board. You may have played this game on a rival system! Oh NES and your shit faced graphics. <3 So yeah the first Wonderboy is on NES under the title of Adventure Island. Future Adventure Island games were all original and stuff, and mostly kept the same style of gameplay for a while. I dunno, I think so at least. I remember playing one on Game Boy and it was the same sort of thing except you could also ride on jumping dinosaurs! It was the greatest moment of my life. Also according to some well done advert showing how portable the Game Gear was by giving school kids hernias, Wonderboy was called 'Revenge of Drancon' in America? Jesus Sega, should have called Sonic 'Story of Blaffudren' while you were at it. How did he get here! That crazy Wonderboy always wandering about. I'd be careful of taking a holiday to a place called Monster Land. What the hell has happened to him! He looks like a bit of a wanker here. No matter, we'll get you all ready. Wow that's threatening! This was easily one of my favorite games on the Master System. It was so bright and happy, so it didn't matter that you were killing everything in sight for money to buy a new pair of Nike shoes. Of course you could buy other things too. Like booze. Also new swords, shields and armour but pfft who cares about those. The controls were just as slippery as the original, so every moment was good for Wonderboy! The game flows really nicely. I have so much love for the Wonderboy and his land of monsters, I'll marry everything. The DRAGON'S TRAP! Kinda certain this one made it to America via the Game Gear and Turbografx-16. Not sure about the SMS one. It's pretty much one of the greatest games ever, yeah I said it, 'pretty'. Wanna fight about it? I sure don't. This one starts off where the other one ended, BAM, within a few minutes you're fighting cool robot dragon. It's nearly impossible to die here though, which is a nice. But when you beat him HAHA IT IS A CURSE FOR YOU TODAY WONDERBOY! That's not nice! Or is it? Perhaps! Later on you could change into different stuff like a bird and a lion! Skeleton pimp is so awesome. This was a really deep game, it also had really nice music! Now he's gone to a whole planet of monsters? Terrible tourist traps. Terrible. Technically I should be dead in this screen. Much better versions exist on the Mega Drive and Turbografx-16, but hey. This one had some really cool dungeon levels, although some of the other locations are just lifted straight from Monster Land. And I haven't even played Monster World IV (the green hair girly one)! But ssh, it's an appreciation thread! <3 Here are these games shown here in illegal form. Might want to find a decent Master System emulator like Meka or Fusion. And appreciate! Jam it back in, in the dark.

Infernal my man, your timing on this could not have been better I **JUST** finished compiling a complete Wonderboy/Monsterworld gamerip collection in my thread. I urge everybody to click the link above and check it out and download the music for this series. It's absolutely wonderful. I am digging that boxart. Shion and Asha come from the two most popular games, so it makes sense to put the latter two prominently on the cover. The series as a whole really does not deserve to die in limbo. Sega is stupid for squandering it and not reviving Westone. It's not perfect by any means but it's fun. If you were to take Zelda 2 and give it it's own little mini-genre then you'd get the Wonderboy series. 3 and 4 are the best though. 4 in particular is amazing. I din't think Genesis games could look that pretty. I suppose it's wishful thinking that it'd ever get released in the states given Sony stupidity but MAN this is one series I really wish that they'd revive. It's even got the Tyrant Dragon on the cover. ^__^ If you're interested I'm currently working on an Adventure Island Complete Series gamerip to complement the Wonderboy one. Strangely enough - Adventure Island 4 (which never came stateside) and Super Adventure Island 2 (which did) actually had Wonderboy-ish elements to them. The latter actually gave Master Higgins a sword at some point if I remember correctly. Anyways I'll post here once the music for it is done. Make sure to check out that game music rip guys! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Holy crap I love you! <3 This is now a Dubble appreciation thread! ='D
I remember years back a terrible local magazine did terrible things and stated a new Wonderboy was in development for GBA. But of course that never happened. ;__; And yeah, there's probably no hope of this collection getting an American or PAL release. It's pretty depressing, because you just know they've got another four hundred crap games lined up for release instead. "Here's Shadow the Hedgehog 2!"
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Shit Infernal I want to hug you just for the thread name. TITLE OF THE YEAR.
I'm pretty sure the second game was the one my brother had for his MS waaaay back when along with the port of Sonic 2. I played it for all of half an hour in 1998! Maybe I ought to download them sometime. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
