Why am I not surprised that a Sonic game managed to break it. Hell, Sonic even vanished from the screen in an attempt to escape his own terrible fate. ;_;
How ya doing, buddy? |
Is this the same as the youtube video I saw?
Oh, it is. Yeah, it made me go "Poor Sonic " But then that should be expected from demoes I guess, it's still rather embarrassing on the show floor. Not that many have noticed it so far or refuse to acknowledge it This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I certainly will not buy a PS3 at launch for the price of $600 especially with their track record on the PS1 and PS2. I had to buy 2 PS1s because the first one stopped reading CDs. I have my original PS2 but it stopped reading CDs also so I cannot play my old PS1 games on it. I also cannot play many of my early PS2 games on it. Also, I have to open the system up regulary to re-align the disc tray gears because it gets disc read errors on DVDs after a good bit of use. For 600 smackers I will not purchase a system that will undoubtedly fail in 2 years. Therefore, I will wait for Sony's 2nd or 3rd revision and hopefully the first price drop. From observing the gaming cummunity it seems a lot of gamers will not be buying a PS3 at launch. Just check out these statistics I found at gamefaqs. Though the poll was still unfinished when I found the stats.
The question was "Whether or not you want one, could you afford a PS3 on its launch date?". Yes, $599 is nothing to me -11.64% 1685 votes Probably, unless something else comes up- 21.62% 3129 votes Maybe, if I were to save up all year -19.51% 2824 votes Probably not, unless I get a windfall -16.89% 2445 votes No way, I can't spend that much on games -30.33% 4390 votes TOTAL VOTES 14473 I personally think Sony should shave off 100$ from the price. They would gather a much larger user base and sell more games because of it. Sure they would initially take a price hit but eventually they would reap the benifits of more users purchasing games, and even blu-ray movies. Just my 2 cents on the matter. I'm gonna have to agree with Garth. I do feel 600 is way too much for the ps3 [although, thats the system with the whole 60 gig HD in it right?]. Not only that, but every first revisions have weird errors and bugs. I remember when my friend first bought a ps2, the fan in it melted the system and the game in it I believe. And when the dreamcast first came out, I knew another dude who had to buy three of them, because everytime he played one, it overheated and melted. I'm going to wait until spring of 2007 to get one personally.

I just wish Sony had quality control like Nintendo... I mean for Gods sake my NES still freaking works. I have never ever had a problem with a Nintendo system failing. They have the games, if they could just make the Playstation brand reliable.
oh, and yes the $600 is the system with a 60gb HD. But that still makes the core system 500$ and that, in my opinion is still too expensive for a game machine. If they dropped each $100 it would still be somewhere near the affordable price range. $400 for the core system and $500 for the 60gb HD version. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I have a first generation PS2 that still works, but my NES doesn't.
All hardware has potential problems. FELIPE NO |
Even if you get a first generation PS3 you can get a warranty right?
How ya doing, buddy? |
Although, I do have to say one thing about Sony's price point: The Xbox came out after the PS2, and cost more than the PS2, yet the Xbox 360 came out before the PS3 by an entire year. Looking at total $ expenditure in game consoles over time, if MS kept up with that pace then overall the Sony consoles are cheaper than the MS consoles.
Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well bestbuy does so problem solved
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
US sucks when it comes to warrenties;_; I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
My friend got a warranty for his 360 at bestbuy though.

The issue really isn't the warranty, its the fact that if I were to buy a PS3 I wouldn't want to take it back in every week because it kept breaking down, when I purchased my PS2 I had it fixed 3 times under warranty and I had to wait weeks for a replacement because they had sold out everywhere.

So... we're "supposed" to be excited for the 60 gig hard drive...
But what I don't get is WHY. What are we supposed to be using this space for? If it's just for storing game saves, patches, and extra content, we could just as easily have an 8 gig drive like the original XBox and still not run out of room. FELIPE NO |

I'm semi-stuck on which model to get. I don't have anything HD (eventually yes, but not for a good while) and the $500 does have the 1 HDMI output. The only real concern are the memory card slots.
Now, neither model will have a memory card slot for the PS1/2 card types, right? The $600 model has card slots for compact flash and PSP memory, and that's it from what I've read. So if that's really all it breaks down to (besides internal WiFi...I can get a wireless adapter for it), I'd rather get the $500 model. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? Actually, Jag, according to Kaz Hirai, the 500 bucks model DOESN'T have HDMI. I does however possess the ability to output in HD. (Probably via component...) And memory card slots is, again according to Kaz, a no-no on 500, due to the fact that many people has readers for the PC. (These readers can then be used for PS3)
I never really had any doubt what model to buy, but if he's right, I can see I'm right picking the $600 one.. (Though it's probably $800 in Denmark...) Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Wait a second. Does the PS3 not have spots for PS1/2 style memory cards?
If so, where's their fucking backwards compatibility fitting in here? Most amazing jew boots |

You wouldn't have to go through all of that in the first place if the console does what it's suppose to: Work properly for a good couple of years or so. I still think you're better off if you wait a year or so. You bypass this entire issue, get a more stable unit for a cheaper price, & have a larger library (of also cheaper games) to select from. (Hell, by then, we might even know who comes out on top with this HD-DVD vs. Blue-ray war) I still have plenty of PS2 games that I haven't started yet. Then there's Wii at launch. I could easily hold out for a year. Something is unclear to me about the HDD. Is it detachable? It'd be really convenient for playing your saved games at a friend's place if the HDD can easily snap in and out of it's place. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I guess you've never owned an Xbox before? 8 gigs is nothing when you throw in a few cd's in there. And knowing Sony, they'll probably use some inefficient compression technology to force you to buy a bigger HD. And I dont believe any of this crap about the PS3 being interchangeable with all IDE HD's. That'd be a stupid business move on their behalf. I was speaking idiomatically. |

That or they have some sort of USB attachment for two PSX/PS2 memory card ports and those come with the $600 system and you have to buy them separatly for the $500 system.

Damn, reading all these posts on the various configurations of the PS3 is just painful. It shouldn't have to be this complicated, Sony!
Anyway, according to the PDFs at the SCEI site, neither SKU has PS1/PS2 memory slots. Most amazing jew boots |

Well fuck it then. I'm getting the $500 model. 20 gigs is enough storage capacity for anything I'll use it for, and if it still works in high-def then fantastic.
When I get wireless at my apartment, I'll buy the inevitable wireless adapter for the system then. Jam it back in, in the dark. $600 bucks for a console? That's just a major deception from Sony, really.
I'm no Nintendo fanboy, nor Sony, but my inclination is to SOny, yes. then again, the price is just insane; that price is wroth only if this shit makes me some food. I'm pretty sure the library of SOny will improve as time passes, but I'm one of those people that will wait for that console to have a more accessible price. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
