Best PC RPG Ever??
I LOVE RPG's, but I haven't played too many. Diablo II was awesome, and I still play it sometimes. I think a lot of votes would go for Lineage2 (I think that's an RPG?) but I've never played it cause im too cheap to pay for play. Anyways, looking for some recommendations!

I'm not one for Online PC RPG's, so I vote KOTOR. (Knights of the Old Republic)

KOTOR I and II were both excellent games. I thought the game's system was executed very well, a nice combination of D&D and Star Wars. Those are both highly recommended by me.
Classic PC RPGs would be Baldur's Gate I and II and their expansion packs. Both are very solid Forgotten Realms setting D&D games, most definitely the best of that realm. These games also recieve big recommendations from me, despite the graphical level that they exist on - they're 3/4-view top-down RPGs. Whattya want for nothin'. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Diablo 2 or KOTOR. Both games are very enjoyable, but KOTOR's mechanics are very very fun. Unfortunately, KOTOR I and II runs a bit slow on the xbox, so as long as you have a good pc, you probably won't have the most enjoyment.

Are we voting for offline or online?
Online, I'd give it to World of Warcraft. 6 million users worldwide and soon expanding into Spain and Mexico, this game is ridiculously popular and successful, for good reason. Graphically, it's very impressive and the presentation -- which in my opinion sets it off from other MMOs -- is outstanding. Well done Blizzard. If we're discussing offline, I'd throw my vote for Fable: The Lost Chapters. Fable fucking rocks and borders on simulation rather than RPG. There's so much stuff to do, but not overwhelmingly so much so you get lost in what you were originally supposed to do. The game gives you freedom on a linear track, which actually works out great. It's graphically impressive, the combat is enjoyable, and the NPCs are what really set this game apart. Rock on, Lionhead Studios. I was speaking idiomatically. Reading -- Bleach, Claymore, Chun Rhang Yhur Jhun, NOW, Zero: Beginning of the Coffin, Black God, Twelve Kingdoms (novels), History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi Watching -- Bleach Playing -- Fable II, Valkyria Chronicles, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Star Ocean: First Departure, LittleBigPlanet, MegaMan 9, Mirror's Edge |
Diablo II definately has gameplay in the bag. Diablo did after all resurrect the near dead RPG genre in 1997.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
It's a shame I never played Diablo, the closest thing I ever played to Diablo was Nox, a cheap rip-off, which still had it's moments...

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'll have to chip in my vote for Diablo II, as well. The only other game that sucked me in that badly was Ragnarok, which I still play to this day. Unfortunately, I lost my Diablo II disc. ;_;

Even though Diablo 2 didn't have much of a story, I just spent so much time gaming it, that it gets my vote.

D2 loses its fun when you try to spend a night getting to level 80 and then grinding out for MF or whatever.
Grinds ruin games. Thus I suggest: KOTOR What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Ultima VII, because it is awesome with a side of awesome.
FELIPE NO |
Morrowind actually gets my vote. The combat sucks ass (sup point/click), but there's so many different ways you can do it that it's not terrible. Plus, it's so open-ended that you can literally beat the main quest in 7 and a half minutes.
The expansions I also recommend, ESPECIALLY Tribunal. That one is so awesome. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Ok, I'm gonna go off on a limb here and say Daggerfall.
You could spend days upon days walking around a single town... what more do you want. Oh yeah, and Diablo 2, but SPECIFICALLY HARDCORE mode. I don't like the 'you cannot die' kind of thing Jam it back in, in the dark.

Diablo 2 still has a special place in my heart. Not so much the game itself, but when me and my friends would stay up till 4am chilling and playing.
One of those things you dont really miss till its gone. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I also liked Ultima Underworld a lot. It was huge at the time. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Planescape: Torment and/or Fallout 1 and 2. There really is no discussion, both games snow Elder Scrolls, Diablo, and everything else. Superior storylines and game systems. Hardcore nostalgics don't keep bringing these two up for no reason.
MMO, I vote City of Heroes/Villains. It tosses out all the needless Everquest baggage and questionable design elements that plague World of Warcraft. No loot, no 40 man instanced dungeons, and no having to wait until level 40 for a horse - you're flying in just a few day's worth of effort. No time sinks are a good thing. i have to say D2 lol i actually just played last night lol.....Ya either D2 or Ragnarok Online....i dont know why RO but it just so fun the music scenery monsters maps everything in it is just awesome. So D2 and RO for me.

The more I hear about Fallout, the more I want to vote for that and Nox. Stop tempting me! What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Monkey King, why vote Planescape : Torment, and not vote Baldur's gate...
Planescape is so inferior in every way. FELIPE NO

Monkey King knows where it's at. Though I haven't played all the way through them, Fallout 1 and 2 and Planescape: Torment are definitely the coolest RPGs I've seen on the PC.
CileGray, while Baldur's Gate was definitely good, its story wasn't nearly as engaging as Torment, and it wasn't as open-ended of a game. In Torment, you could really choose what kind of role you wanted to play, and the game was playable that way. If you pump up your charisma stat and say the right things, you can avoid almost all the combat in the game or if you wanted to go kill stuff, you could do that as well, which is something that a lot of RPGs neglect (though KOTOR was one of the few to allow this duality and did it well). Also, an item of interest for anyone who has Dungeon Siege, there's a mod you can download that has a complete remake of Ultima 5, found here: http://www.u5lazarus.com/ They essentially recreate everything from the 1988 classic, but it's much more accessible as a game mod. For anyone who remembers the game, or who'd like to see what made Ultima the grandfather of PC RPGs, try it out. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
