Thumbs up The Lil' Sprout Pictures Movie Thread

The Official Lil' Sprout Pictures Movie Thread

Hey everyone, welcome to the official Lil' Sprout Pictures thread! As some of you may know, I am an independent filmmaker. I am currently a junior in college, and have been making my own films for a few years now. I have directed numerous of my own works that have ranged from 5 to 59 minutes.

I have decided to make an official thread to share many of my works with you fellow GFFers. I will start by posting some recent stuff and then as the days and weeks pass and this thread (hopefully) gains some popularity, I will post other stuff.

------------------------------------------
Logos
------------------------------------------

1. Lil' Sprout Pictures Logo - 2006
---Length - :10
---Format - YouTube
http://youtube.com/watch?v=J_wh9X_YM0s

I'll kick it off by posting the new logo that will begin all the films I direct or work very closely on. I was looking to go for a new direction with my 2006 logo, and I'm real happy with the results.

2. Lil' Sprout Pictures Logo - 1986
---Length - :10
---Format - YouTube
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zubrjpuGq_c

I was playing with this idea before I came up with the one you just watched. Again, I was looking for a new direction and this was as far-out as I could possibly take it. I'm not opposed to using this as a joke on some short comedies I do or something. Anyway, check it out.

3. Lil' Sprout Pictures Logo - 2005
---Length - :10
---Format - YouTube
http://youtube.com/watch?v=O7GXXWAOLeI

My big film of 2005 was a zombie movie entitled "The Last Stand." To better fit the atmosphere of the film, I made this logo. I still love it.

4. Lil' Sprout Pictures Logo - 2004
---Length - :10
---Format - YouTube
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cv8Jdqi8XTU

The first logo I made for Lil' Sprout Pictures. Short, simple, and to the point.

------------------------------------------
Micro-Shorts
------------------------------------------

These are all very short films (1 to 2 minutes) with no real point to any of them. Some of them I directed, some of them I didn't. I will properly list what my role was in the creation of the micro short.

------------------------------------------

1. Snakes on a Plane Trailer - 2006 - Director, Editor
---Length - 1:00
---Format - YouTube
http://youtube.com/watch?v=CSudn9n0d_k

This feat of editing "gold" was featured on VH1.

2. SLiTHER TV spot - 2006 - Editor
---Length - :30
---Format - YouTube
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jan4w4I0esM

The makers of SLiTHER held a contest for people to design their own TV spot for this awesome movie, and this was my entry. I didn't win obviously, but I still think its pretty badass, but even I admit that it doesn't fully represent what the movie is.

3. C4 - 2006 - Editor, Sound Designer, Special Effects
--- Length - :59
--- Format - YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyskEsPS1Ms

My friend Matt "wrote" and directed this, and we pulled this together in less than two days.

4. Portfolio Intro - 2004 - Writer, Director, Star
--- Length - 3:43
--- Format - YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKjx1FQQ4k0

This is something I made that would introduce my film portfolio/demo reel. This was made back when I was thinking about transferring to a dedicated film school.

5. Closet Prank - 2005 - Writer, Director
--- Length - 1:18
--- Format - YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXbe8J3SU38

The unofficial sequel to "Portfolio Intro." Fooled plenty of people with this one.

------------------------------------------
Shorts
------------------------------------------

Shorts range from anywhere up to around 10 minutes in length. These usually have a point and have some form of a three-act structure to them.

------------------------------------------

1. No TP - 2006 - Writer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor
---Length - 4:30
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnC3Vve2X44

I really don't like this. I did this film on a whim one boring Saturday. Check it out anyway!

2. Thunder Run - 2005 - Writer, Director, Sound Designer
---Length - 9:00
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-IEuyzFIMY

Thunder Run is the first (and hopefully last) thing I ever shot on 16mm film. It was for the Intermediate level production class at my school, with my roommate and myself partnering up to each make our own films. Mine was the first project, and because of that, it was naturally plagued with problems. We were both green when it came to film, so we didn't know much on what to do. We lost half of the film due to a light leak, and my actors always came hungover. Grand. I had to make up the ending on the spot because my actress decided to not show up.

Anyway, I hope you like it. It has, hands down, the best sound design that class saw that whole year, and I'm still proud of it.

3. Split - 2005 - Director of Photography, Editor
---Length - 10:00
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cj3T9sdXvc

Split is my roommate's film from the same class we made Thunder Run in. His turned out much better in terms of quality and smoothness of the shoot. Dig it.

4. The Baggage Handler (Director's Cut) - 2004 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 8:16
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLTe73SziD0

The Baggage Handler is the first film I made to really motivate me to do more. It got a very good reception in the classroom, and plenty of notice within my circle of friends. It's my homage to my hero - Quentin Tarantino. Enjoy!

5. The Baggage Handler (Classroom Cut) - 2004 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 7:05
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB8mjVn9BrA

This is the classroom cut of The Baggage Handler. A little over a minute is shaved off due to it not meeting the class requirement of being under 8 minutes. It's still solid, but not as good as my preferred cut.

6. Wading in Shallow Waters - 2004 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 4:11
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UvNKlNo9U0

Wading in Shallow Waters is my critique on my horrible luck with women. Enjoy

7. Chimera - 2004 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 6:06
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eILG09IpFG0

Chimera is my Silent Hill homage, and my all time favorite short film that I've made. See if you can dissect its meaning hidden within the darkness.

------------------------------------------
Features
------------------------------------------

Features are anything above 20 minutes in length. Now, technically, features are thought to be 90 minute Hollywood films, but in the film student world, or atleast mine, we consider anything above 20 to be feature-length.

------------------------------------------

1. The Three Evils - Chapter One - The $200,000 Apology - 2004 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 23:09
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONehPB5gVNw

Chapter One of my Three Evils saga. I created them with Asian crime cinema and Anime influences in mind, and even went so far as to dub over everybody's dialogue with anime dialogue and subtitles.

These movies have always been close to me, being my first real attempt at a deep, twisted story. I think most people on GFF, especially anime aficionados, will appreciate what I've done with these films. Chapter One is my personal favorite because it's a tight film with solid pacing and great overall delivery. Enjoy it!

2. The Three Evils - Chapter Two - The Scarlet Tears - 2004 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 32:28
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_45Vij0KII

Chapter Two of my Three Evils saga. I created them with Asian crime cinema and Anime influences in mind, and even went so far as to dub over everybody's dialogue with anime dialogue and subtitles.

In this installment, I answer some lingering questions from the first chapter, and introduce the series' villains - Grave and Rosa. I made this chapter much more action-oriented. I still like it alot, but it suffers from some sound and editing issues that I overlooked when rushing the DVD out the gate. Either way, a real fun movie in every sense of the word.

3. The Three Evils - Chapter Three - One Thousand Miles Towards the Setting Sun - 2005 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 41:29
---Format - YouTube
Part One - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soq2MyguvEY
Part Two - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6RfaloPZQg

Chapter Three of my Three Evils saga. I created them with Asian crime cinema and Anime influences in mind, and even went so far as to dub over everybody's dialogue with anime dialogue and subtitles.

The most story driven of the Three Evils movies. This one deals with the backstory of Red, Black, and Blue, and we learn the fate of what happened to everyone after the events of Chapter Two. It is split up into two parts on YouTube so that it can be viewed at better quality than if it was one huge file.

Chapter Three is unfortunately the final installment of my Three Evils series. I planned an amazing fourth chapter, but as time passed, my interest faded, and also the interest of every single person involved with the series. When you see the end of Chapter Three, you'll see why it's a disappointment that Chapter Four will never happen. Either way, I hope you like it!

4. The Last Stand - 2005 - Writer, Director, Editor, Cinematographer
---Length - 57:11
---Format - YouTube
Part One - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QKaDdOInFQ
Part Two - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ7Ah4YPgJw
Part Three - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfrSwMNCTQw

My biggest project aside from the one I am in production with right now, my hour-long zombie opus, The Last Stand. It is split into 3 parts on YouTube for better quality. An outbreak of an unknown disease has occurred, leaving society in complete chaos. A convicted murderer has used this opportunity to escape prison and seek refuge in a neighborhood not far away. Joining him in the house are a young couple who lives there, a cop, and a sword-wielding maniac. Watch as they make their last stand against the infected as they forge into the woods!

5. Undeclared - 2006 - Editor, Sound Designer
---Length - 29:39
---Format - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8Wt7szBC0s

A year-long project between me and my two friends. The three of us form The Collective, a production company name we use when all three of us tackle a film project together. Matthew Lundberg wrote and directed this film about a student who pays his way through life by being a professional assassin. His life is turned around when he meets a girl who sees him for what he is.

Thanks for looking all! Let me know what you think of my work!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Great stuff man, watched Thunder Run and Split. As a sound designer, I really liked the sound work. The music was good too, some weird soundtrack choices (but in the good way), like that Final Fantasy music.

Thanks! One of the biggest sound design tips I got while in the beginner production course was to never use music with lyrics unless it related to what was being presented. The reason being is that it will take precedence over what is being shown onscreen and become a distraction. I stuck to it like glue and I rarely use actual songs that have lyrics in them.

I'm glad you liked them!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Ahhh Three Evils Chapter Four...

Well, I had planned to do it last summer, but due to a supreme lack of will to do it thanks to the hectic production of Chapter Three, and also because I had no story, I put it off and instead did my zombie movie.

My roommate (guy who played Blackjack) is producing Chapter Four. Producing meaning, getting me off my ass to do it this summer. It's almost like he wants to see it more than me. I want nothing more than to finish my Three Evils Saga, it's just a question of whether everybody is up for it. My ideal Chapter Four would include alot of cast members who I probably won't be able to get, unfortunately, so I basically need to write 2 scripts - the ideal Chapter Four, and the acceptable Chapter Four.

Anyway, it should be coming. The current plan is to shoot it in May, but alas, I'm very busy in May. My sole priority for the summer is to shoot Employee of the Day in July, so, who knows if I'll even have the funds to do Chapter Four.

It will come. I already made a badass teaser poster for it, so you better believe I'm doing it.

Thread Revival comin' liek WUT!

I've added a ton of videos to YouTube, and felt I needed to update this as well. I hope this time more people will check out the movies!

Here is a list of what I've added-

Micro-Shorts-
1. C4
2. Portfolio Intro
3. Closet Prank

Shorts-
1. The Baggage Handler (Director's Cut)
2. The Baggage Handler (Classroom Cut)
3. Wading in Shallow Waters
4. Chimera

Those three films were the first things I ever did!

Finally, I've added some features that I've done, ranging from 20 - 60 minutes in length. Some people here on GFF have seen these (I'm looking at you, K_Takahashi!), and I'm hoping that more take this opportunity to view them, because I feel like you will like them all!

Features-
1. The Three Evils - Chapter One - The $200,000 Apology
2. The Three Evils - Chapter Two - The Scarlet Tears
3. The Three Evils - Chapter Three - One Thousand Miles Towards the Setting Sun

Tomorrow or later tonight I will add my one-hour zombie movie, The Last Stand. Thanks for looking, and leave some feedback!

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Hey man, I watched a few of your films, including Thunder Run and Split. I preffered your Thunder Run. I thought it was really entertaining, and it had a good story. Good job, the pacing really worked.

Thanks. I re-watched it again a few days ago and despite a bunch of stupid flaws that I still see, I'm still happy with it. Let me know if you check out any of my other films!

Hey...I decided to look at some of your films, and they're not that bad. I like how you have some interesting music. Especially the Final Fantasy music. I watched Thunder Run, and I'm about to watch The Baggage Handler.
Good work!

I watched the "Losers" trailer, and it looks like it could turn out to be a fun "College Life" movie. I'd like to see it when you're done, of course. I also watched "No TP", which was amusing in its own right. I'm going to browse your other contributions as well when I have more time.

"No TP" was a rush job... As in, pretty much 2 hours of shooting and a day of editing. I'm not entirely too pleased with it, but eh, I guess it gets the job done! I just wanted to try my hand at comedy.
