Cookies: The Eternal Question - Crunchy or Chewy?

Mmm, cookies. If I had one on hand, this would be the part where I'd put a .gif of the Cookie Monster, but alas, I have none.

Chocolate chip, peanut butter, nuts of all kinds help comprise the entire wealth of cookies out there. But a second factor makes or breaks a cookie for people: texture.

Which one do you prefer: crunchy or chewy?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Crunchy cookies can go to hell, they have no purpose in life.

Chewy. What JazzFlight says. Milk with cookies is good too. Stay in school.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I like soft cookies, but not too chewy. Cookies like Chewy Chips Ahoy are pretty bad because they're too chewy.

Who the fuck would pick crunchy over chewey, if given a choice? Crunchy cookies are just the nasty little shits that people eat because they seem to be the only thing people get as refreshments for social gatherings.

And you should have made a poll, so we could see how much people hate crunchy without having to go all through the thread and stuff.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Chewy, theres nothing like a warm, soft and chewy chocolate chip cookie to brighten up your day. Although Oreos, I can make an exception.

Chewy.

Whenever I buy Pepperidge Farm cookies, I always prefer the soft-baked chewy cookies.

I hate crunchy cookies-- with a passion. Chewy cookies, on the other hand, are scrumptious, as long as they aren't too chewy. I once had a cookie that was so soft it ended up falling apart when I held one side of it.

If I'm ever in a situation where I somehow find myself eating a crunchy cookie, a glass of milk is an absolute must.

Freshly baked, home-made chewy chunky chocolate chip cookies. Ooh, and chewy gingerbread cookies.
The only crunchy cookies I'll eat are those danish butter cookies--the ones that come in those tin cans.
Crunchy chocolate-chip cookies are the poor excuses of the badly baked chewy ones. Some people just won't admit they can't bake them right. They just shove the mess-ups in our lunch bag and hope to hell we eat them. I give them to my dog.

Chewy. No question.

I like them best when they're straight out of the oven and the chocolate chips are all gooey and melty. Mmmmmm.

Chewy, but with a slightly crunchy exterior.
Occasionally I will come across a cookie that exhibits these traits, and my happiness gauge shoots up.

Chewy cookies reign supreme over their crunchy counterparts. Every time I bite into a crunchy cookie I can't get the feeling out of my head that I'm eating something stale, a few exceptions like Oreos aside. A cookie fresh from the oven has no equal.

How ya doing, buddy?

Chew, definitely. Much more delicious and um...delicious. Before I discovered chewy, I was eating crunchy, and now I don't think I can ever go back, haha.

I can't think of a time I would pick a crunchy cookie over a chewy one. So yeah, I'm with the crowd on this one.
A freshly oven-baked chewy cookie doesn't get much better than that.

Chewy cookies for me as well. Any cookie with a noticeable grain must be soft to consume.

On the other hand, smooth battered cookies like Nilla Wafers, Milanos, and Oreos must be crunchy.

So traditional baked cookies with thick batter or dough have to be chewy and cookies baked in forms have to be crunchy.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I am hopping on the chewy train. Crunchy cookies always break up and get shit all over your shirt. Nothing like this has ever happened with a good chewy cookie. I once cut my gum on a crunchy cookie, a Chips Ahoy I think. That would be a name better reserved for a casino: CHIPS AHOY!!

Chewy. Definitely chewy, especially when freshly baked and with chocolate chunks. And maybe some M&Ms.
Reading this thread makes me think; if so many people prefer chewy over crunchy, why are chewie cookies harder to find in stores (at least for me)?

I think its the relatively shorter shelf life of chewy cookies. So most stores tends to not carry as much. Then there are people like us who will buy said cookies, thus making them harder to find than your standard crunchy cookie.

If I didn't know any better, that post made it seem like chewy cookies are a commodity.

Wow, what is this? I like crunchy cookies. Soft cookies aren't good for dipping in milk, and they aren't as good.

I disagree. The soft cookies absorb the milk faster, so you don't have to hover over the milk for endless seconds waiting for the dunk to be worthwhile.

Although I don't eat much cookies, I prefer crunchy ones. They become soft anyway in milk
