Exclamation Ripping Digital Audio

Hopefully, someone can help me with this. I have an Audigy2 ZS Platinum (with optical in/out ports) and I'm trying to rip audio this way. Problem is, I cant seem to get the PC to properly detect the audio stream. I've tried setting my recording device to every available option in the Windows Recording Mixer, but with no luck (the closest I can get to anything is when I select "S/PDIF-In", but all I get with that is static). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

(using XP btw)

Jam it back in, in the dark.
