Oh what I snuck a nom in here somehow I'm surprised, because my last 8 weeks in SotW(henever) have been poor. And let me just say, this is a bastard of a battle. Plenty of good tracks all round, including ToH and "Kinetic Harvest" (!).

3 points: Shatter - Official Videogame Soundtrack - Kinetic Harvest
2 point: Invaders Corruption - The Soundtrack - Liquid Dance
1 point: Music Contest 4 (The Hornet Archive) - Universe Electric
4th: Tower of Heaven - Original Soundtrack - Stairway to Revelation
5th: Racing Lagoon Original Sound Track - TAIMAN Battle
6th: Megalomachia2 - SUPER-REFLEX
7th: Frogatto & Friends (Game Rip) <Rain (Ryan Reilly)> - FrogattoTitle
8th: MDK Original Game Soundtrack - Vengeful Alien

After listening to "Indignant Divinity" so much, "Stairway to Revelation" just seems kind of eh. Also sorry "TAIMAN Battle" ;__;

There's nowhere I can't reach.

This is a very bittersweet battle for me: five runners-up (a personal best) but no winners. Since it's been 6-8 months since I heard most of these, let's comment on each:

Tower of Heaven - Original Soundtrack - Stairway to Revelation Hearing "Indignant Divinity" 345,687,985,002 times in the BSC has given me a bit more appriciation for this. It's got the same melody, but done in a much more deliberate and (dare I say) downbeat fashion. I'd still take ID in a head-on pairing, but this is still a potent faux chippy.

Racing Lagoon Original Sound Track - TAIMAN Battle Vanilla racing song is vanilla. It might be the best of its weak week but I'm still as meh about it as ever.

Invaders Corruption - The Soundtrack - Liquid Dance Faux-chiptunes are popular these days, and this one is okay. Doesn't measure up to ToH, but then again what does?

Megalomachia2 - SUPER-REFLEX Busy and bright SNES-era muzak. Doesn't set the world on fire but good for what it is.

Music Contest 4 (The Hornet Archive) - Universe Electric Not quite up to AB's usual standard of tracker excellence, but still a cut above a lot of tracker stuff out there.

Shatter - Official Videogame Soundtrack - Kinetic Harvest I've gotten heartily sick of Shatter's schtick through the BSC. I've downgraded my opinion from "tecent techno with touches of trance" to "boring vanilla trance."

MDK Original Game Soundtrack - Vengeful Alien A little tinny but decent rock hybrid.

Frogatto & Friends (Game Rip) - FrogattoTitle Still smooth and synthy and 100 billion times longer than it needs to be.

The Point Spread
Stairway to Revelation - 3 pts.
FrogattoTitle - 2 pts.
Universe Electric - 1 pt.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Wow, so many of these are actually favorite tracks of mine. Gonna have to exclude some good ones, unfortunately:

3 points: Frogatto & Friends (Game Rip) - FrogattoTitle
2 points: Music Contest 4 (The Hornet Archive) - Universe Electric
1 point: MDK Original Game Soundtrack - Vengeful Alien

Honorable mention: Tower of Heaven - Original Soundtrack - Stairway to Revelation

One of the best battles of all time. Though I'm still not hyped on ToH like the rest of the board.

2 points: TAIMAN Battle
2 points: SUPER-REFLEX
1 point: Vengeful Alien
1 point: FrogattoTitle
just missed: Universe Electric, Kinetic Harvest

Is it possible we can bring back running the regular weeks alongside the battle weeks? Considering the... duration of these weeksf recently I can see many getting impatient for a battle to end (okay I can mostly see myself getting impatient but still)

I have a nom if that helps!:

Album: Henry Explorers Original Game Soundtrack
Composers: Mutsuhiko Izumi, Yuji Takenouchi
Track: CRIMSON POWER (Stage A&B Boss)
Track #: 09
Catalog #: KICA-7693
Year: 1996

Artist: Kerli
Track name: When nobody loves you
Source: well, this is a youtube rip IIRC. This song was of course exclusively made for the Quantum of Solace game. Please don't hate me.

This is a fairly hard battle for me to vote on. Many of the winners are really good. Anyways, here goes nothing:

(2 points) Shatter - Official Videogame Soundtrack - Kinetic Harvest
There's this 80s thing (I think?) going on with this track that's so hard to resist, despite my best efforts.

(2 points) Music Contest 4 (The Hornet Archive) - Universe Electric
It's like some of Brandon's Deus Ex material but, dare I say, better and more sublime.

(1 point) Frogatto and Friends (Game Rip) - FrogattoTitle
Nice chiptune vibe remiscent of Chris Huelsbeck. The catchy Happy Land track starts okay but gets better as it develops.

(1 point) Tower of Heaven - Original Soundtrack - Stairway to Revelation
Some quibbles with the first couple of seconds at the start and end of the loop. But an otherwise great tune that works wonders in-game too.

Special mentions to "Liquid Dance".

And here's a new, but short, nomination:

* Album Title: The Sword of Xuan Yuan Side Story: Billows of the Bleak Music Collection (this is a somewhat more accurate translation than VGMdb's)
* Artist: Wu Xinrui and Zeng Zhihao (aka Shin Ruei Wu and Rizet)
* Track Title: Millenial Destiny
* Source: http://www.mobygames.com/game/window...hi-tao/credits ; http://vgmdb.net/album/13505 ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zl93Xp_1Hs
* File Location: Nominations folder
* Disc Number: 1 (of 1)
* Track Number: 1
* Catalogue Number: NA
* Year: 2004

FELIPE NO
I think therefore I am... I think.

We can give it a shot, though not this time obviously welp. The main argument against is one eating the participation in the other, but (1) participation can't get much lower (THIS IS NOT A CHALLENGE) and (2) the duration we're running things probably makes it supportable.

I wonder, would 9 voters be the worst battle participation ever?

So what's going on here? Is it the exodus from the board, summer blues, people distracted by the contest? Are we just going to accept low vote totals or start considering an alternative?

An alternative? Like forming a posse and hunting down wayward voters?

I'd be up for that.

SotF posse = most badass posse

But yeah it is a bit of a worry. Really should have tried to promote SotF more during the BSC. I'm sure there are plenty of BSC regulars who would participate in this thing, if not weekly then at least once in a while.

Oh wow. So I wasn't holding this open for more votes. Somewhere along the line I actually just lost a week and thought it was supposed to close tomorrow. Fantastic.

Not related to anything else that's happened in this thread, but for those who haven't heard, Ryu Umemoto passed away on Wednesday. How many people here are familiar enough with his work to throw some nominations in? His body of work is easily enough to support a full theme week, but he wasn't really a super big name (although that seemed to be changing in the past couple of years with his involvement with Cave). I'd be more than happy to just scrape a few nominations together without going all out.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

That's horrible news. I'm not too familiar with Umemoto's involvement outside of his shooter arranges, but he's a tremendous musical talent. He was in his prime as well, such a shock. He will be sorely missed.

I'm absolutely able to throw in a nom:

Album: Manabu Namiki Selection Deathsmiles Premium Arrange Album
Composer: Manabu Namiki
Arranger: Ryu Umemoto
Track: Rebellion of the Lake Village - Stage C-2
Track #: 06
Catalog Number: CVST-0009
Year: 2009
Source: CVST-0009 | Manabu Namiki Selection Deathsmiles Premium Arrange Album - VGMdb
