Slimmer Slimline PlayStation 2

Sony (GOLDSTAR) have announced a newer version of the family favorite chicken tonight simmer sauce, due out later this month in Japan and mystery month next year in non-Japan lands. Maybe they'll finally drop the price to $100 US with the release of this. It's virtually the same, except they've now been able to cram the AC adaptor inside the machine itself, which is nice. Nice and something.

Also launching in white and silver~

Just how much more has this beast got left in it? It's been seven years now. First party support has all but dried up, Twisted Metal: Head On (a port of the PSP launch game with a few extra levels tossed in) is due out pretty soon in America, and that seems to be about it. Oh wait, SCEE will keep releasing new SingStar, EyeToy and Buzz games every twenty five minutes for the next three hundred years! Third parties? Still going strong in Japan if you like high school visual novels. LET'S EXPLORE BY ENDING THIS PARAGRAPH WITH SHOUTING.

THIS MONTH!

Fire Pro, King of Fighters XI, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum and Puzzle Quest for fifteen bucks a pop! I don't know what the PS2 version of Fire Pro is like, but it's 2D, and the GBA one was hilarious, so. So! I don't even like wrestling games (Well, Wumble Woses is goodtastic). KoF and NGBC are both pretty great, and Puzzle Quest is.. well.. Puzzle Quest. If you haven't played it on DS, PSP or XBLA by now then pfft, go pick this up or something.

A new Dragon rock the Dragon, Dragonball Z game is due out, too. If you're into that kinky sort of shit. Godzilla might be pretty great, Destroy All Monsters Melee was awesome on GameCube. And Power Rangers isn't in there for jokez either! OR IS IT? It actually looks like a solid side scrolling beat 'em up! It'll also contain the original theme music!

EVERY OTHER MONTH!

What's the point of Rock Band on PS2, does anyone even go online with it? And it's $150! For Fisher Price drum kit and friends/slippery dip. Might as well just get it on 360 or PS3 or Game Gea-oh God it's a sequel to one of the worst Sonic games ever and there's a lot of Sonic games that could be jammed into that selection.

Oh wait.

Phew! In this thread, we.. uh.. haha hey look a new PS2!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

What the FUCK, a sequel to Sonic Riders

Still, I didn't expect them to announce it just yet, just weekend I was given a heads up on it and told it's still very hush hush.

$100 in the US will likely translate to €129 in Europe, but HEY. Hopefully they fixed some of the compatibility issues of earlier slim models. And an internal power source, that's something I didn't expect. Very nice!

Now we just wait and see how easy it is to mod them, obviously.

How ya doing, buddy?

Looks nice. Even though it took 3 refreshes, it's better looking than all of the previous gen consoles as well as the current ones.

Too bad I bought a PSTwo recently, or I would've picked this one up. Here's another image:

These were supposed to come out back on October 22nd, and have gotten pushed back one week each time it comes to the already changed release date. So who the hell really knows when they're ever going to actually come out. But when they do, I've got pre-books on them.

As for the DBZ game. This may be people's last chance to buy an ATARI game before they go out of business. What a way to go that would be, lol.

Atari has been drama'ing up the joint about going out of business for years now, they never seem to actually die. ;__; As long as Atari Classics Evolved for PSP makes it out, that's all I care about from them!

What the FUCK, a sequel to Sonic Riders
"Hey guys, remember Sonic Riders?"
".. No?"
"It was that racing game we did"
"Oh that Saturn game"
"No no, that was Sonic R"
"Yeah, and the R stood for Riders, right?"
"No, I think it was for Racing, actually. Anyway I reckon we should make a new Sonic Riders game"
".. You want to make a new Saturn game?"
"Oh fuck you guys"

I was speaking idiomatically.

Sonic Riders....I might be the only person in the world that actually liked that game...

Tell me something, I usually play the japanese version of all SNK games. Do they still censor the US versions of KOF?

Fire Pro Wrestling REturns is the gem I am looking for. I actually had a thread made up for it in which only one person posted.

The game was so popular that it had a fan-based English Translation (which just released today it's sixth version of the patch after a very long and intense waiting period).

The game itself is quite a contrast from the Smackdown! series, and at the time had some innovative and never-seen-before stuff concerning matches (which the Smackdown! series has slowly added in the last two years).

I could go on about it but well...go find my thread!

Since when is there a PS2 Rock Band? I thought they were sticking to next-gen with that one.

Also, Puzzle Quest for PS2 is a waste of time unless they come out with it for $20. No reason to play that game on the TV at $30 or more, because while I love my 360 version it was only $15, and that game is much better in small doses than in typical console-style long plays.

I like it already. I was gonna buy myself a replacement PS2 since I gave my old one to my godson but I guess I can wait a couple of months to buy this one if it indeed sees a release here in the States.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'll buy this on the condition that it works with this new plug-and-play memory card 'modchip'.

I'm also skeptical about the fact that it's going to be £100. That's $200. Fifty bucks shy of a 360 or a Wii.

Memor32

It's available now. Backups/homebrew aren't officially supported afaik, but some rusky hacking team called Memento have released a firmware which enables this. I was sorely tempted by Swapmagic before, but this seems to have rendered it obsolete...

The least they could have done was build in an upscaler and used the optical unit from the original PS2.

Same old jap shit.

No point, since any telelvision worth its salt would have a better scaler than the machine (unless they put in a high end unit in there or supplied an external solution).

Its called the Playstation 3, or so I heard from the internets.

This holiday season might be a slow one for the PS2, but with the cheap price of the machine and the new slimmer version, maybe this will give incentive for more quirky and original games to be released for a solid, reliable platform (And the coding for the system is well documented by now) such as the recent Odin Sphere and God of War II.

Don't worry. You're not alone.

Besides the power supply, there's nothing too different about it. But weird how they're still relying on support for the PS2 when their "superior" PS3 is out and about.

New PS2 coming to Japan: same price, same size - Joystiq

It will stay the same price for Japan, who knows about the States though. I'd love it if it goes for $100. I need to get one as my regular PS2 is crapping out on me and I don't want a PS3.

Oh and World Heroes Collection is coming out for those a fan of SNKs fighters.

Well, recent news is that they've announced it for Japan and Europe, but SCEA hasn't said anything about a release stateside.

Opinions? Do you think they're not going to release it here because of the ps3?

Holy shit, the newer model looks like a goddamn wafer-thick remodel. What.

:easily snaps in two:

Either way, I had the thick one since I bought it nearly 4 years ago. Still not bad.

My thick one conked-out two years after I got it; just in time to get a new slim model. The new one looks nice (love the white one!), but it's just not enough to get me to plunk down the money.

I also see there's still no hard drive in this model, so I guess the PS2 version of FFXI still isn't playable on anything but the first one.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
