ATI Releases New Cards on Sept. 14th

http://ir.ati.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=10...452&highlight=

This is pretty good news on many different levels. But there are two cards in particular that really are note-worthy to anyone looking at upgrading their system.

First off is the new mid-range X1650 Pro. This card is slightly faster than the current X1600XT's, and it will be MSRPing at $99. That's right, $99 (and less) for ATI's best mid-range card. Now, this will be a PCI-Express card, but it gives a good option for those looking to upgrade to a PCI-E system and not pay out the hiney for a good new card. Just crunching the numbers, a AMD3800X2 (SocketAM2) is $140, and good Mobo is $70-80, a 1GB DDR2 stick of RAM is $80, and this X1650Pro is $99. That means a great PCI-E system with alot of upgrade potential can be had for as little as $400 or less!! Here is a review of a X1600XT (doing good with Oblivion) and the X1650Pro will be slightly better than this. That means a entirely new, very upgradable system capable of an enjoyable Oblivion experience can be be had for $400 or less! This is very awesome news.

The second awesome potential of this is the X1900XT 256MB card that will MSRP at $279! This is a great deal for those of us with low-budget, high-end gaming (AA&AF) demands. So for anyone that wants greater playing power for Oblivion, this is the ticket for you. Crunching the numbers again, a AMD3800X2 (SocketAM2) is $140, and good Mobo is $70-80, a 1GB DDR2 stick of RAM is $80, and the X1900XT256MB is $279. This is a $579 system with a very high-end graphics card!

These are some good DEALS and that's why I'm posting this info. Alot of you seem to be interested in upgrading, but most of you are on tight budgets. With these new cards in particular, you can upgrade your system and get great gaming without breaking the bank. Good news all around.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hopefully flashing this new, cheaper X1900XT will be easy enough... or Apple will appropriately reduce the cost of the X1900XT upgrade for the Mac Pro.

Not that it REALLY matters, I suppose, since I won't have the cash to get a Mac Pro until sometime next year after Leopard comes out. But still. Always good to see price cuts on good products.

That certainly sounds good. Will this be released world-wide? Can't wait to build a proper system for that price.

Although I'll also need to buy a HD & DVD-drive with it since I have no spares that I trust.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I wouldn't call those 2 cards the most important. First of all, X800PRO outperforms X1600PRO in Oblivion, and the X800PRO is cheaper than the X1600PRO/1650PRO. 10MHz higher clock? What a joke. And second, GDDR4 featured in the X1950 is supposedly supposed to yield a better overclock, as well as featuring ATI's new cooler. The X1950 would therefore be a more important card for the hardcore rich folks.. while ATI's best budget card is still the X800PRO or X800GTO (if overclocked) from last gen.

You are both right and wrong.

First off let me say, I quoted the MSRP. Can you say "prices will be lower than MSRP"? I can.

Second, the X800Pro/GTO is a 12 pipe card and so is the X1600/1650. These cards are gonna be fairly comparable. I really don't think you'll find much performance difference at all. A X800XT, however, will be better than the X1600/1650 series because the XT models are 16pipe cards. So if you can find one of those in stock for a low price, you are pretty well off. But these finds are getting VERY rare.

Thirdly, the X1950 is great yes, but I obviously wasn't posting to tell people that. Hit any major hardware site today, and they will tell you the X1950XT is amazingly good. If you have the money, that is the one to get. Period.

Fourth, the X1900XT 256MB is a big deal. Though it has less memory than its big brother, the fact that it will MSRP at $279 means we will see many models hit near the $200 mark. That is incredible for the performance you will get. If I were upgrading now (on what would be a small budget) this is what I would buy to suit my gaming needs.

The X1900XT 256mb is great, yes, but for that price range, one would probably be better off with a GeForce 7900GT. I believe it performs better and is currently much cheaper, even though ATI X1x00 series supposedly has "better" image quality and has some very nice features such as AVIVO.

A 7900GT better than a X1900XT? Right (note sarcasm). Think about that again and get back to me. And check a review like this to see a X1800XT beating a BFG 7900GT OC.

Also, the best prices for 7900GT's right now is about $239 on newegg after rebates. And the X1900XT 256MB is MSRPing at $279 (which means it will be mostly lower than that).

This X1900XT 256MB card is going to be about the best price/performance for higher end gaming needs.

The news for the 256MB X1900XT is great considering I was gonna pick up the 512MB version for over $400 CAD. That new price is crushing the 7900GTs price/performance ratio.

well, the x800GTO has a 256-bit memory interface, and the 1600 has a 128-bit memory interface, so the x800 will most likely perform better overall (and especially at higher resolutions). the x1600 has 4 ROPs and can only do 4 textures per clock, while the x800GTO can do 12 textures per clock and has 12 ROPs. and finally, the x800GTO has one more vertex pipeline than the 1600.

x850xt
i hope they are not out for good!

anyway, the x1900GT is also a good deal - slightly cut down 1900XT at 199 dollars with no rebates....

The x1900gt model isn't just down clocked though... it is missing stuff (pipes, etc) from the x1900xt models. But overall, yeah, not a bad card.

You can see on this page that the pricing schemes as of now are leaning in ATI's favor, which is nice. That means nVidia will probably try to counter which just means better for us .

Hi All

I have a MSI X800XT pci-express card in my PC. The question i want to ask is:

1: Is this card better than a X1650 Pro? I believe the answer to be yes!
2: Is this card better than 2 X1650 Pro's in crossfire mode?

Or should i just stick with the X800XT until i can afford a X1950?

Any help or information would be gratefully recieved!

Best regards all!

X800XT will beat out a X1650 Pro. No question.

But obviously, a X1900 XT will beat out your X800XT. If you are even thinking of getting a 1950, that means you want great performance, and that card is amazing. So I would definitely wait and save.

How ya doing, buddy?
