Song of the Week - WEEK 265 Voting/WEEK 266 Nominating
Song of the Week. 250 Weeks and counting.
Week 265 Voting is HI ORION. Week 266 Nominating is HOW'S IT GOING. By the way let's do this: SotW Unplugged An acoustic (or faux-acoustic) instrumentation week, acoustic guitar being the obvious example. Tracks: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Air Duel (Game Rip) - Stage 2 Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Alexander Brandon - The Shell Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Lime Odyssey (Game Rip) - West Tumbara (Light) Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: raiL-soft The Best - Ending Music to a Dying Town Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Runark / Gun Frontier - Dear Partner Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: SPACE INVADERS EXTREME -AUDIO CLUSTER- - Executor (Stage5B) Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Total Annihilation (Red Book Audio) - Forest Green Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: VIRTUA FIGHTER5 ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) Possible ways of voting include: Spoiler:
Notes: A loopier version of "Stage 2" is available in the extras folder for people who enjoy slightly longer versions of music from video games. Please remember to upload your nominations to the SotW server! Uploaded noms mean a faster, smoother SotW experience for everyone. Server information: Spoiler:

Yeah yeah mock me if you will. But I can't make a voting thread when the tracks aren't uploaded! At least you've figured out how to use the proper lime green color instead of that dull forest green we're usually stuck with on CHzweeks.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well you could've just done that temporary files thing like has been done in the past. I even uploaded your nomination that you didn't upload for just that case!
Additional Spam: I guess this is more or less acoustic:
Boring nom for boring people:
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
wait what the JOLT?
ELORIN AND THEKNIGHTOFNEE. You both nominated stuff I was planning to nominate in the future, how fantastic. The freaky part is I was seriously planning on nominating either The Shell or a few others by Alexander Brandon (very leaning towards The Shell) when I got back from being BUZY/LAZY (at the same time). That's pretty ridiculously COINCIDENTAL because The Shell isn't even a new piece or anything, WOW. So I'm glad that me kind of being away didn't even matter in terms of that I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
There are no coincidences, only the illusion of coincidence. (mwahahaha)
And what's with this Total Annihilation nom anyway?! Sigh, one less track from my nom pool. In any case, I don't think I've voted like this in a long while. Many good tracks this week. (2 points) Alexander Brandon - The Shell (1 point) Runark - Gun Frontier - Dear Partner (1 point) Total Annihilation (Red Book Audio) - Forest Green (1 point) VIRTUA FIGHTER5 ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) (1 point) Lime Odyssey (Game Rip) - West Tumbara (Light) And a new nom: * Album Title: Formula 1 Simulator (Game Rip) * Artist: Rob Hubbard * Track Title: Subsong 1 * Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Hubbard ; http://noname.c64.org/csdb/sid/?id=14305 * File Location: Nominations folder * Disc Number: NA * Track Number: NA * Catalogue Number: NA * Year: 1985 I was speaking idiomatically.
I think therefore I am... I think.

2 points: Lime Odyssey (Game Rip) - West Tumbara (Light)
2 points: raiL-soft The Best - Ending Music to a Dying Town 1 point: Runark / Gun Frontier - Dear Partner 1 point: Air Duel (Game Rip) - Stage 2 "West Tumbara (Light)" is a perennial favourite; a bright and melodic march which shows Mitsuda in complete command of the orchestra. Major props also have to go to my nom, which contains some awesome guitar production and strings underlay. The piano interlude is also light and fun in its seemingly feigned seriousness. It's a shame that the brass melody is awkward and slightly muddies the track's instrumental palette. Also of note is the brilliant-even-though-it's-kind-of-cheesy melody in "Dear Partner". =D Overall, a hot and cold week IMO. Will post an acousticin' nom later hopefully (say, 2 weeks) What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
2 Points - Alexander Brandon - The Shell
2 Points - Runark / Gun Frontier - Dear Partner 1 Point - SPACE INVADERS EXTREME -AUDIO CLUSTER- - Executor (Stage5B) 1 Point - VIRTUA FIGHTER5 ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) HONORABLE MENTION -Air Duel (Game Rip) - Stage 2 the shell: I WAS GOING TO NOMINATE THIS THE NEXT TIME I LOGGED ON HERE AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED ) HOW THE JOLT DID THAT EVEN HAPPEN ||| alexander brandon are you a siren because then you can be inside the tracker sphere and delay echo everything into minor on percussive synth patches dear partner: I have always been a big fan of this piece, I love the melody, the FM SYNTH is cool, and the synth patches are just NICE and 80s-90s in general and i love that. Whenever I hear this piece of music i fall out of the device. executor (stage5b): WHY DOES ZUNTATA HAVE such a style that is appealing to my tastes consistently. I love the extreme LR panning of the hits on that really harsh sound it makes a RHYTHM the inthathtionheigag THING ]]]] these chords they're neat ALSO THE SYNTH BASS wow that synth bass sounds like Pokemon and so do the brass samples. DELAY ECHOES are cool park: the combination of "INTENSE" emotional chord changes and COMPLEX JAZZY CHORDS is not common enough. THIS HAS THAT COMBINATION IN IT THOUGH SO I THINK IT IS CUTE. I love that piano solo a bit after halfway through. the dissonant interval erkgadlgkf;lekg'34k chord changes are awesome in here as well air duel game rip stage 2: i like fm synth a lot, this probably would've RECEIVED a point from me if it didn't loop so fast9999999999 (And if I didn't like the shell and dear partner approximately equally) I like the really dissonant runs right between the parts where it's just the drumbeat, that whole section before it loops. BUT THEN ITS OVER AND I WANT MORE FELIPE NO |
Pretty cool how Brandon comes up with better electronic tuneage than most contemporary EDM producers. That atmosphere, man. I could maybe get down to The Shell in a club without the usual requisite hot blonde sluts. Point spread:
3: The Shell 2: Dear Partner 1: PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) ps. was playing a bit of catch up, and all I'm sayin' is whoa @ week 258 What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Air Duel (Game Rip) - Stage 2 Other than the fact that it's 16 bit, there's not much to set this shmup-style song from the 65,536 identical shmup-stlye songs.
Alexander Brandon - The Shell I have been accused of having a pro-Brandon bias. That's fair. But many others have a shameful anti-Brandon bias, so it all balances out in the end. This is his usual solid stuff; no more and no less. Lime Odyssey (Game Rip) - West Tumbara (Light) So Yasunori Mitsuda needs to get a better agent, since he seems to be devoting most of his output to shitty titles that no one has ever heard of. Case in point: Lime Odyssey. Who'd have ever even heard of this outside of Japan if not for the Mitsdude? That aside, it's his usual excellent stuff with a touch of the epic and a nice Aaron Copland feel to parts. raiL-soft The Best - Ending Music to a Dying Town I guess if my dying town was ending I'd noodle some melancholy chords on my guitar too. It's not bad, though it takes its time going anywhere. Runark / Gun Frontier - Dear Partner Meh. It's like Air Duel without the genre expectations to lean on. SPACE INVADERS EXTREME -AUDIO CLUSTER- - Executor (Stage5B) Like Brandon without the catchiness, really. Total Annihilation (Red Book Audio) - Forest Green Vintage Soule, eh? It's solid orchestral stuff up to his usual standard, which means that everyone will call it boring because, as BSC '04-'09 and '11 prove, people hate beauty. VIRTUA FIGHTER5 ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) I guess we couldn't spring for the Sarah VF6R model, huh? As far as fighter tracks go, this is pretty middle-o-the-pack. Sandard sound, not aggressively bad, not stand-outy. The Point Spread Lemon-Lime Odyssey - 3 pts. Forest Green - 2 pts. The Shell - 1 pt. Nom to come when I can be bothered. I would say it doesn't matter since Rayman, but the BSC has shown everyone's utter tastelessness in that regard. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
3 points: Forest Green
1 point: Stage 2 1 point: Executor (Stage5B) 1 point: Dear Partner Really really REALLY REALLY wanted to give this a point: West Tumbara (Light) Just Missed: Ending Music to a Dying Town, The Shell, PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) Excellent, excellent week. Loved every track. Executor! This was a potential nom of mine, being both a stage 5 theme and my favorite track from the album. CHz STOP STEALING MY TASTE IN MUSIC (<3) Stunned to see Forest Green here. It's one of my favorite Soule tracks and probably my favorite from Total Annihilation overall. Love the way the main theme was snuck into the melody at 0:23. Loved the Lime Oddysey track as well, would definitely have given it points in lesser weeks. Man really I just loved everything about this week, great job guys! How ya doing, buddy? |

Couldn't even be bothered to do a pps and vote, eh Tails? It's no wonder we overthrew you in favor of the Muzzacratic Party.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
He doesn't want to waste his votes now when there's potential kazoo voting occurring in the future. It's a balancing act to maintain his hatred for us while still occasionally dropping in to vote for silly shit.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
here comes an ACOUSTICin' nom, or at least I think so. Someone might wanna verify that this one fits in when I up it to the FTP here in a bit. Hope so, because it's the best I've got against Heralian kazoo voodoo.

Okay, here's an acoustic nom. At least I think it's acoustic (it has... a guitar...?).
* Album Title: Granado Espada (Game Rip) * Artist: S.F.A * Track Title: Umbrio * Source: GE umbrio - YouTube * File Location: Having trouble uploading to the ftp. Will try again later. * Disc Number: NA * Track Number: 185 * Catalogue Number: NA * Year: 2010 (based on other searches, this appears to be the earliest year I've seen the track mentioned) I was speaking idiomatically.
I think therefore I am... I think.

Acoustic Nomination:
|
And that's eight acoustic nominations!
FELIPE NO |
2 points: SPACE INVADERS EXTREME -AUDIO CLUSTER- - Executor (Stage5B)
2 points: Total Annihilation (Red Book Audio) - Forest Green 1 point: Runark / Gun Frontier - Dear Partner 1 point: VIRTUA FIGHTER5 ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - PARK (SARAH VF5R Ver.) super close: Stage 2 slightly less close but still p. dang close: The Shell, West Tumbara (Light) Muzza sucks, but this doesn't: Ending Music to a Dying Town Executor was TECHNICALLY not written by Zuntata, as for some reason Yasuyuki Suzuki wrote two tracks for Space Invaders Extreme, but dude is a legendary talent and deserves the extremely high praise of being compared to them. Man that rhythmic SFX section <3333 Forest Green is cheating, Draconis. I didn't really like the meat of Stage 2 for some reason, but that weird intro and those runs right before the loop were gold. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I am voting in a few minutes this is definitely a quick placeholder post so this doesn't close on me
HERE I AM VOTES ARE AM EDITING FROM HERE ONWARD BELOW AHEAD TWO POINTS Runark / Gun Frontier - Dear Partner TWO POINTS AGAIN Alexander Brandon - The Shell TWO POINTS IN A SURPRISING DEVELOPING PATTERN SPACE INVADERS EXTREME -AUDIO CLUSTER- - Executor (Stage5B) Jam it back in, in the dark.
