Prinny Dood has invaded this thread; I searched up and probably it wasn't made before

...but whatever but most likely it was made on GFF despite me searching on the search query but a whole bunch of threads of anything but the subject matter was yielded but I don't know for sure so I'll bite the tuna and make a thread for myself!

- DISGAEA - DISCUSSION THREAD

Lo and behold, for Atlus has given unto us the most grand of grand SRPGs ever conceived. What's Final Fantasy Tactics again? (Blasphemy I say!).

So, after getting the bajesus of me scared after entering the Spanish village in Resident Evil 4, I said to myself, Spat, I need a lighter hearted game. Because I'm a wuss, and because I feel like making another thread in the RPG forum :3. So I picked up this game off Amazon for $30 or so, after a few people have told me about it (SEE: ScarletDeath), and that's where I learned about Prinny Doods. Prinny Doods are awesome because they are penguin bombs.

Allow me to ramble and copy pasta from Wiki to make it look like I'm putting effort in this thread :3

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (魔界戦記 ディスガイア, Makai Senki Disugaia?, lit. "Netherworld Battle Chronicle: Disgaea") is a tactical role-playing game developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published in North America by Atlus, Co. for the PlayStation 2 video game console. It was released in North America on August 27, 2003 and in Europe on May 28, 2004 by Koei. Disgaea follows the adventures of Laharl, a demon prince residing in the Netherworld.

Nippon Ichi has also licensed or produced a wide variety of Disgaea merchandise, including a manga. A sequel has since been released in 2006 titled Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, along with a 12 episode long anime.

Due to popular demand, Nippon Ichi announced that they will be porting Disgaea to the Playstation Portable video game console slated to release on November 30, 2006 in Japan. A North American or European version has not yet been announced.

Disgaea has many features which differ from those in other tactical RPGs. One of the game's tutorial levels explains the ability of the player's units to pick up enemies or allies and throw them to a different square on the map. Monster units cannot use this ability. The distance that a unit on the map can throw another unit depends on its character class; rogue class characters and Gordon have the best range in the game. It is possible to capture enemy units by throwing them into the player's entry square on the map, after which they join the player's party. However, bosses and humanoids cannot be captured.

The game also has "cycles"; at the end of each trip through the storyline, the player can choose to restart the story from its beginning and maintain each character’s statistics and item inventory from the previous game. Characters that join and leave your party as part of the game's story will only be usable in the same parts of the game that they were before, but they, too, will retain their items, abilities, and stats. This complements Disgaea's high character level ceiling of 9999, while also giving the player additional chances to see Disgaea's multiple endings.

Disgaea's configuration allows the player to select the audio and soundtrack in the U.S. release from English or Japanese. The song "The Invasion From Within" by Tsunami Bomb was licensed for the English audio track by ATLUS due to its organ opening and fast pace, and is only played when English is the selected language. The option to select the language is not present in the European release of the game, because the European release used a lower capacity storage medium (CD instead of DVD).

Souhei Niikawa and Yoshitsuna Kobayashi, the game's producer and main programmer, have explained the intended humor of Disgaea; they give the example of Captain Gordon being a satire of American comic book characters. Episodes of the game are separated by previews, parodying such previews at the end of anime series episodes. Most of these have voice-overs by Etna and do not accurately reflect the plot of the next episode; one of the characters calls these previews Etna's fantasies. The game is also filled with Prinnies, penguin-like creatures that explode when thrown. More information on their origins is revealed as the game progresses – they contain human souls and labor in the Netherworld and Celestia to atone for their sins. Character designer Takehito Harada described the prinny design as becoming less realistic as development continued.

Laharl's castle
Laharl's castle acts as a hub, allowing the player to access the other locations in the game. Each episode of the game gives the player access to a new set of maps, which must be completed in order to proceed in the plot. With the exception of the Item World and the Dark Assembly, all sets of maps are accessed by speaking to a dimensional gatekeeper. With the exception of some maps, maps can be accessed and played again at any time, occasionally with minor changes.

Unlike many other RPGs, the world of Disgaea has only one set of stores where items may be purchased, consisting of an armor shop and a weapons shop directly within Laharl's castle itself. These shops are described in-game as the Netherworld branch of the Rosen Queen Co. The overall quality and types of the items sold in these shops can be changed through proposals to the Dark Assembly. A hospital where characters may be healed in exchange for payment is also present in the same area of the castle and rewards Laharl and company by giving them items when they receive certain amounts of treatment.

Dark Assembly
At the other side of the castle, Laharl and the members of his party may appear before the Dark Assembly, an area where non-player characters may vote on proposals to aid Laharl's party, including proposals to unlock special maps required for some of the endings or secret characters. Senators have a visible predilection toward the party that affects their votes. Votes can also be affected by bribes with items from the player's inventory. Each proposal to the Dark Assembly costs "mana", which is built up by characters as they defeat enemies. If a proposal fails to receive sufficient votes, the player may attempt to pass the bill anyway by choosing to "persuade by force" and defeating the opposing senators in battle. The proposals available to place before the senate depends on the number of promotion examinations completed by a character; these examinations consist of a battle with a handful of monsters on the floor of the Assembly.

Geo Panels
Some maps in Disgaea contain Geo Panels, which are represented as squares on the floor of the map of a particular color. Colored objects on the map known as Geo Symbols may be present on either Geo Panels or regular, uncolored squares on the map. These Geo Symbols can usually be thrown. When a Geo Symbol sits on a Geo Panel, it gives the all Geo Panels of the color it sits on a property, such as making all units on them invulnerable, or decreasing the HP of friendly units on those panels by 20% at the end of each turn. When a Geo Symbol is destroyed on a Geo Panel of a different color, it causes panels of that color to change to the color of the Geo Symbol and damages units on those panels. If another Geo Symbol is on one of the panels when it changes, it too is destroyed, and the Geo Panels begin to change color and properties again, creating a chain reaction. This chain reaction can be of any length that can be supported by the number of colors of panel and symbols on the map. Some Geo Symbols have the color "clear" and cause the Geo Panels to become regular map squares when destroyed. Removing all of the Geo Panels from a map will cause a blast of energy which hurts all enemies on the map and results in maximum bonuses for the player, referred to in the manual as the Panel Termination Bonus.

Item World
Laharl's party may also enter the Item World from the Castle, going inside an item in their inventory in order to increase its attributes. The world associated with an item contains up to 100 randomly generated levels. Inside the Item World, monsters called Specialists raise the statistics of the item they are in when defeated. Often, the maps are full of Geo Symbols.

Each floor has a gate, a special map square that can be used to go to the next level in the item world. However, a monster with the unique class "Gate Keeper" will sometimes block the gate. The Gate Keeper must be defeated to use the gate. Every once in a while, rare items, such as the Legendary Cosmic Blade, show up on a bonus list of items rewarded when all monsters on the map are defeated.

Every ten levels has an item boss – level numbers 10, 20, 40, 50, 70 and 80 have Item Generals, 30, 60 and 90 have Item Kings, and 100 has an Item God. The strongest of each type of weapon and the three ultimate items – the Yoshitsuna, the Super Robo Suit, and the Hyperdrive – each contain an Item God 2. Defeating these bosses also increases the attributes of the item. The Yoshitsuna can only be acquired from an Item God in a Legendary Cosmic Blade, the Hyperdrive is given to you the first time you defeat an Item God 2, and the Super Robo Suit can be stolen from Tyrant Baal. The Item World can only be exited at the end of every 10th level containing an Item Boss, or at any other time by using an item called Mr. Gency's Exit, a play on the phrase "Emergency Exit".

Characters

Laharl, the antihero of Disgaea and son of the late King Krichevskoy, lives in his castle with his vassals. Although he, along with Flonne and Etna, is mistaken for a child by the human characters, he is actually a 1313 year old demon. Takehito has explained that Laharl's antennae and billowing cape are intended to make him look larger than he really is.

Among Laharl's vassals, Etna is the only one at the beginning of the game that is a playable member of the party. It is revealed in her diary that Etna is driven throughout the game by a deep loyalty to King Krichevskoy. She has hired a Prinny squad to aid them in their quest. Among them, Big Sis Prinny appears in some early episodes, and eventually becomes a focus of the plot in the reincarnation episode, when Laharl attempts to stop the Prinnies from atoning for their sins so that he doesn't lose his vassals.

Shortly after beginning their adventure, they meet Flonne, an angel trainee sent from Celestia (the land of angels). She focuses heavily on the concept of love, and joins Laharl to determine if demons are capable of feeling it. She was sent by Seraph Lamington – the leader of Celestia – to assassinate the already deceased King. Lamington is occasionally shown discussing Laharl and Flonne's progress with an unseen character. Archangel Vulcanus, a high ranking angel who reports to Seraph Lamington and calls the netherworld "abominable", believes that he should have been sent on Flonne's mission instead.

Laharl and the others faces a variety of challengers to his throne, including Maderas, a vampire that attempts to kill Laharl in order to become the new overlord, and Hoggmeiser, a pig-like demon with a self-proclaimed love of money. One of these, Vyers (who is called Mid-Boss by Laharl and other characters, and refers to himself as The Dark Adonis) is the first demon that Laharl confronts in his quest to reclaim the title of overlord and appears periodically throughout the game.

Later, they meet several humans from Earth. This includes Captain Gordon, the 37th Defender of Earth, his assistant Jennifer, and the robot Thursday. Gordon says at one point that Jennifer has a Ph.D. in every subject, and she states that she built Thursday when she was only five. Gordon is treated as a rival by Kurtis, who considers himself to be more worthy of the "Defender of Earth" title. In an explosion caused by anti-space development terrorists, 70% of his body was destroyed; his wife and daughter died in the same explosion. Gordon and Kurtis are both working for General Carter, the leader of the Earth Defense Force.

In addition to the plot-related characters, the player can create generic characters that are used only in battles. There are 3 different classes of generic characters - humanoids, monsters, and Prinnies. Monster classes can obtained after you defeat at least one of them in battle. Some humanoid classes are available at the beginning of the game, and others must be unlocked. Prinnies are just like monster characters, except for a few minor differences.

Secret characters can also be found in Disgaea. Priere from La Pucelle: Tactics is the overlord of an alternate netherworld. One of her attacks is similar to the Miracles in La Pucelle, but instead of the Goddess Poitreene, Priere invokes herself. Marjoly from Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is the final boss of the Beauty Castle; she has items equipped that come from other Rhapsody characters — Myao's Ears, Gao's Guts, Crowdia's Beauty, and Nyanko's Soul. Both Marjoly and Priere become playable members of Laharl's party when defeated. Another secret character is Baal, the Lord of Terror; he does not join the player's party when defeated, but is instead reincarnated as a Prinny and can be challenged again. In addition when Laharl defeats Baal, his title changes from Demon Prince to Baal's former title, "Lord Of Terror." While not a leading character in other games such as Priere or Marjoly, Baal makes a minor appearance in every Nippon-Ichi game, normally as an optional secret boss.

Plot

The story of Disgaea opens with Laharl rising out of an open coffin in his room. Etna, one of the castle vassals, is standing next to him, surrounded by various weapons. She explains that he has been sleeping for two years, far longer than he intended, and his father, King Krichevskoy, has died. Laharl vows to reclaim the throne, and, after consulting with Etna and his other vassals, goes to Vyers' castle.

After defeating the demon Vyers, who refers to himself as the "Dark Adonis" and is renamed "Mid-Boss" by Laharl, he meets Angel Trainee Flonne. Flonne had been sent to the Netherworld by Seraph Lamington, the ruler of Celestia, to assassinate King Krichevskoy (who was already dead). Shocked by Laharl's lack of grief at his father's death, the eternally optimistic Flonne joins Laharl's party to determine if demons are capable of feeling love. Observing them in secret is the paranoid Archangel Vulcanus, who interprets Flonne's actions as treason and is convinced that she is plotting against him.

After Etna demands that Laharl pay the salary of the Prinnies that she has hired, he decides to attack the demon with the most money in the vicinity. This is Hoggmeiser at Dinero Palace. After defeating Hoggmeiser, Laharl is about to kill him, until Hoggmeiser's son rushes out and gets in the way. Flonne convinces Laharl to spare them, and Laharl lets them keep some of the money. In response to this act, Hoggmeiser joins the party.

At one point, Flonne and Etna discover a photograph of Laharl in an embarrassing situation. Laharl refers to this as a "paparazzi shot", however, the actual contents of the photo are never actually revealed. (Two popular theories are that Laharl was doing something sexual or that he was doing something nice. He could also have been caught crossdressing.) A threat on the back of the photograph states that copies of it would be distributed if Laharl did not accept a challenge to fight for the overlordship; thus Laharl was blackmailed. One of the demons in Laharl's castle, after learning about the photo, says "I didn't know you were into that sort of thing ♥".

Responding to this challenge, Laharl meets Maderas, a vampire. He was banished by King Krichevskoy, for stealing the King's favorite snack, black pretzels. Maderas takes advantage of Laharl's two biggest weaknesses – optimism and women with sexy bodies. Maderas was also controlling Etna by holding her memory. He had instructed her to kill the prince, but she had put him to sleep for two years by poisoning him instead. Etna eventually betrays Maderas, and along with Laharl, Flonne, and Mid-Boss, defeats him.

Waking up later at night, Flonne discovers that several Prinnies are chanting and leaving the castle. Laharl, worried that his reputation will be tarnished if it's discovered that he let his vassals escape, chases after them the next morning. Eventually, he runs into Death, and the player learns that Big Sis Prinny is actually Laharl's mother; she became a Prinny because she gave her life to save him.

After Laharl becomes the undisputed Overlord of the Netherworld, he meets a group of humans from Earth: Gordon, self-proclaimed Defender of Earth; Jennifer, his assistant; and the robot Thursday. Gordon has been led to believe that his mission is to assassinate Laharl due to an impending attack on Earth by the Netherworld. Laharl promises not to invade Earth if Gordon defeats him, on the condition that Gordon becomes one of his vassals if he wins; Gordon is embarrassed by his ensuing loss and servitude. After the Earth Defense Force appears in the Netherworld, it is revealed that Gordon was actually sent to secure a path for an invasion of the Netherworld by the humans, who had been tricked by Vulcanus.

General Carter sends Kurtis to the Netherworld, and eventually goes there himself on the Space Battleship Gargantua. Kurtis abducts Jennifer, and Laharl engages the EDF fleet of spaceships in a rescue attempt, destroying all but the Gargantua by himself. When Laharl and his party arrive at the Gargantua's bridge, several angels from Celestia appear and attack them. After being defeated, General Carter escapes, only to have Mid-Boss appear to give him a message.

In response to this turn of events, Flonne and the rest of the party decide to go to Celestia to confront the Seraph. Vulcanus goes to Seraph Lamington, declares that Flonne is a traitor who is leading an army of demons in an invasion of Celestia, and goes to lead a group of angels to repel this "invasion". Vulcanus reveals to Laharl and his party that he intends to conquer all three worlds and rule over them as a god. After defeating Vulcanus, Laharl finally meets the Seraph and Flonne explains Vulcanus's plan and what she has learnt while travelling with Laharl. The Seraph accepts her version of events and agrees that demons are, in fact, capable of feeling love. However, he declares that Flonne must be punished because she fought against other angels, and turns her into a flower. Outraged at this injustice, Laharl attacks the Seraph, initiating the game's final battle.

The game has multiple endings. Depending on the way the game was played up to this point, the Seraph may or may not survive, Flonne either remains a flower, is restored to her original form, or is transformed into a Fallen Angel, and Laharl either becomes a great Overlord, disappears and leaves Etna in charge of the Netherworld, or dies and becomes a Prinny. It may also be noted that, on the Good Ending, when the spirit of Laharl's mother appears to him, Vyers appears to already know her, and the way he talks to Laharl suggests that he is King.

The style of Disgaea's visuals is very similar to the Super Robot Wars series, as the makers of Disgaea have responded that characters represented by 3-D models in other games are often limited by a "set pattern of motions", and they were able to make the characters of Disgaea more expressive with sprites.

There were two different styles of boxart for the American release. These differences were noted by a single image located on the bottom left hand corner of the cover, which could either have been Laharl or a Succubus. Though with limited information, nobody knows for sure which one is the original print, and which was is the second edition print.

And to Infernal Monkey, Q, Rydia with the hot avatar, please PM first if you wanna close this thread, I swear I thought I didn't see a Disgaea thread made anytime recently.... ;___;, could you at least merge them if so, or else my fingers will be sad after rambling all this time.

So friends of the Netherworld, tell me your secrets of this game and what gets you so this game of sex, drugs, and awesome! This thread is for discussing BOTH Disgaea 1 and 2, however, state clearly of which game you are talking about :3.

1) Is it better to execute commands for each characters one by one or would you give orders to EVERYONE before hitting the execute command, so all your orders are done simultaneously?

2) How do those exit tickets work for the item world in Disgaea 1?

3) Do you recommend throwing enemies on enemies to level them up?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Everything about Disgaea except Kurtis is overrated. Kurtis, of course, worthy of all praise.

Disgaea 2's gameplay made things a bit more interesting, but pirate maps and a dumbfuck leading cast infuriated me. Supporting characters (Mom, Axel) were strong.

Axel...*coughs, looks left and up* of course. Trance No. 4 scores major points with me anyways like a garbage phoenix. Then again this is intended for D1 and not D2 >.>

1) It only matters really if you're going for the combo multiplier to damage (eg. boss battles). If the battle is simple enough, I just execute after each command.

2) Use the Mr. Gency's Exit, as you've figured out.

3) If you can handle it. Just don't get too crazy. The monsters stats accumulating is what the problem is. You might be able to handle three zombies no problem, but together, the defense/res might exceed your highest spellcaster's/attacker's mag and atk stats, respectively. Even relying on Braveheart or Magic boost might not even be enough to exceed the number. Speed also becomes a problem because you'll need a high hit in addition to a high enough atk/mag. The best part is that when the levels add up, the monsters gain powerful attacks. A mere two level 25 (or so) Prinnies will combine for level 50, and gain Pringer Beam or something, which will mass kill your units surrounding it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

How does gaining promotions for Laharn and everyone else effect the dark assembly? I managed to pass two movements with bribes, but then when I extorted them for money, I got a lot of frowny faces, I wonder why. Also, can I put a movement for all three "more variable" items to be put forward? I won the one with glasses or something, and got a few more goods, but my choices are still somewhat lacking.

I have one power house mage, I called her Delicious and she takes care of fire magic. I have regular fire and mega fire, both which have various patterns. Laharn is at about level 17 with 300 some HP.

So far my favorite map is the one in the palace with a uber ballizion hot palace chicks. I just throw one or two prinnies to take care of about 5 of them, then I take Laharn to go to the very end and do a wind shot or something. I might want to take a venture into the item world again, is doing the item world worth it to power up a weapon?

Also, I got the 3rd boss as part of my party, that hogg dood, and he does pretty nice damage. Should I strive to power up this monster?

Promotions affect the bills you can pass and the amount of influence. You can't open the gate to Prinny Land with a Rank 1 character.
Raise Military Funds is a bill that doesn't work like 99% of the time, and even if you do get it to work by bribing them blind, it's a terrible, terrible amount of Hl you could just get from like a 1/100 of a single battle.
Item world's good for more items and levelling characters and skills. It's not worth it to level up weak weapons, but it's a godsend if you don't have the patience to buy weapons and pass the more powerful items bill. Your favourite Skewer at max level will be totally outclassed by the Gae Bolg. You can also steal for stuff instead of buying.
Hoggmeiser starts to suck. He's decent for spread coverage if you're patient enough to get Darkness Slash, but that time is better spent helping your mages get at least a 5 square range of effect on each spell.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Hahaha, I remember a few days extorting money from senators for the first time. They all agreed. 11000 HL GET (I only have 6 billion HL right now ;_;)

Eugh, transmigrating is such a pain. It takes at least 24 hours (almost dead on) to fully transmigrate a character to get the maximum amount of bonus (blue) points at the character's beginning. The maximum amount of blue points for a single character is 210, which is 180000 stored levels.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I started a whole set (9 hummanoids) and wanted some support fighters, so I'm building them on the ground up from level scratch up to level whatever. This is so I have more flexible characters, and got myself a ninja and a geomancer or whatever his name is. I also have two mages - wind and ice - training under the fire mage. She's hot.

I think it's better to focus on one character at a time. That's what I did with Laharl, who now has 11000ish stored levels and is currently around level 4200.

But since you're new to the game, use the Freezing Cold level (4-3) a lot. Bring out a weak character who won't counter attack, and trap an enemy on the non-invincible panel (by throwing them onto eachother, or just throwing them individually). Use Laharl to attack it and have a mage use Braveheart on Laharl. Pass Stronger Enemy bills and repeat.

I just got through the first level of Jotenhiem, where you lose 20% health each time, along with your attacks being weakend and enemy DEF +50%. That level was a bitch, and it costed me about 3500 HL to heal back up.

What do you mean by stored levels?

Stored levels have to do with transmigration should you choose restart your characters from level 1 for higher base stats which leads to higher stat growth at each level up. eg. transmigrate for the first time at say, level 99 and you'll have 99 stored levels. Transmigrate for the second time at level 132 and you'll have 231 stored levels. Right?

That's right, but there's no point in transmigrating unless you're capable of getting high again within the hour.

Right now, I can clear CoO3 on the strongest enemy bill past with my level 1 majin (doing about 50k per enemy). This makes transmigrating pretty easy, since all I have to do is clear CoO3 until I'm 700+, gain 3 promotions to transmigrate, and transmigrate into a level 1 Majin with genius status.

There's no point in transmigrating before level 700 though, because you only gain 1 blue point per 700 levels.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Ack! What a waste of my time with my characters :s Then again, I wanted to upgrade to the best classes for base stats and weapon mastery and get the bonus points if anything, rather than the blue points. Even though Majins are the best, I like cool titles like Freischutz and Eternal Fist.

How the hell do you get to level 700. I'm only at level 19 with like 19 hours of game play or so. Don't tell me you've been playing this game for over 5000 hours.

What is the highest HP you can get, and highest level? Level 9999?

How the hell do you get to level 700. I'm only at level 19 with like 19 hours of game play or so. Don't tell me you've been playing this game for over 5000 hours.
Simple. You find one of the stages where you can kill a whole bunch of people in one shot, like the map in chapter 9, or the third map of Cave of Ordeals, and you keep right on hitting it until you fail to gain a level by doing so. You can increase the yield by building up a statistician for your character, which will multiply earned experience to a maximum of +300% (Exp x4), and you can also pass 'stronger enemies' bills for more experience yield per monster.

What is the highest HP you can get, and highest level? Level 9999?
Not a clue about the HP, but the highest level is indeed 9999. Of course if you transmigrate frequently and max your 'stored levels' you'll gain bonus points that will enable you to boost your base stats even a little beyond those of level 9999.

That's for the serious grinders though. I've never gone that far.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Well here's what one guy achieved, so I guess something in that ballpark. Although I don't know how much of a difference 300 levels makes in the higher range, you can certainly tell already that those numbers are far higher than anything you'll ever see with casual play. You won't reach that anytime soon without statisticians and map formation abuse.

How ya doing, buddy?

It's difficult to say what the max HP is, because it depends on your items, your character class, the amount of times you've transmigrated, and the amount of dieticians (specialists) in your items.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Hm I didn't know I invaded this thread...ah well why not!

Anyway I played the first Disgaea through quite a number of times and tried desperately to unlock all of the secret levels. I dunno about you guys, but that Dark Assembly hated me with a passion. I remember having to resort to beating the crap out of them to ever progress anywhere in regards to the unlockables....such good memories.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Those numbers are so huge it's almost disgusting! Imagine how much it would cost to revive that dead Laharl, if perhaps there's a death spell in this game.

It was frustrating before I beat the game to try and pass things under the dark assembly. I couldn't bribe them blind with my entire inventory so I just picked to pass by force for fun then they go all ape**** on me: "Air Assault!", "Magnetic Field!", "Zombie Swarm!", my characters were always decimated in the grandest way imaginable.

Of course once Laharl hit level 1000, I passed every rule I wanted to with reckless disregard. A single sword swipe and 3 counters taught those senators who had the power >=)

Any pitfalls to avoid in this game? I've downloaded a couple FAQs but character building seems daunting, what with having to level up certain characters at certain times in certain orders to get somewhere. Without a FAQ, I'm very curious how anyone would know to do that? This game seems to huge for that much trial & error...

To me, the draw of the game is truly its charming character. Sure the gameplay is there, and stats gurus will have a field day. This isn't usually the type of game I would play, but its style has completely drawn me in...

Some things you just won't know without an FAQ. Like the girl sitting next to Pleinair says, you can complete the game without knowing anything.

Actually I think it's a guy.

I'm starting to not even pay attention to the other people less than level 10 in my party. They are so under powered now and it's a real drag trying to level them up. Laharl has learned about 7 special techniques.

What's getting me confused is how the "bonus learning" work when a mentor has a pupil. For example, my level 15 red mage DELICIOUS has two pupils. One healer and one ice woman. Sometimes I see that Delicious has these special healing spells, albeit its a lowly 1st level healing spell, but sometimes it disappears and I'm stuck with fire spells and braveheart. What's going on? Do I have to use it (healing) up to level one for it to stick permanently? The same thing happened with Laharl - one turn I had even fire magic, but the next turn it wasn't there!

Also, I get my healers to heal everyone even if they don't really need it, this is to boost up the learning, because if they don't use their special skills, it doesn't grow.

I just also passed 3 bills - better stuff X 2, and the bonus guage to 1X.

Sure enough, I'll take its witty sense of humor and LOVE LOVE HATE DEMONS, over the more serious FFT plot, which was still very enjoyable, but there's something quirky and funny about this game that I can't resist!

If your pupil is standing next to your mentor, they have access to all the pupil's abilities.

So like, Laharl can use Omega Fire if a Galaxy Skull is standing next to him and is his pupil. But it isn't all that important post-game because the skills you're borrowing off your pupil aren't going to be very high.

There will come a point at which money becomes so completely irrelevant to your party, I assure you of this. You'll have more than you could ever spend.

Honestly I never noticed that it mattered which character you were levelling up. If you just level one character all the way through the game, you could probably still complete it.

Additional Spam:

It's a magic knight class, isn't it? They seem to be female. Looking closely you'll even notice they appear to have been drawn with small breasts.

That's right. When they are standing together, it appears at skill level 0. If you use it enough to boost it to skill level 1, the character can keep it. I'd probably have to partly agree with Lix though. It's a lot of work to get those kind of spells to a decent level. Not completely useless, but be prepared to invest the time if you want to make them decent.

It sure does grow slowly, doesn't it? In Disgaea 2 they introduced a specialist that could make skill experience grow faster, but in this game we are stuck with the base rate.

Well make sure you are most certainly prepared if you're just going to try and solo Laharl before beating the game. It's not that easy unless you can kill everything with one hit. The maps get terribly nasty and you'll need to make use of throwing to cut down on the nasty. (eg. Enemy Boost X6 for almost every square, enemy mages sniping you off, etc.) The highest level in the story mode for an enemy without stronger enemies should be the last boss at like level 99. The stats are like 2000 at the highest, even for the lackeys, so if your hit and attack are in gross excess of 2000, then you're homefree.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
