It's a comic nerd thing, but the show does have potential. You know those new ageisms were just thrown in there for the benefit of a wider audience. Trying to explain how toxic waste transformed somebody would be much more difficult for the 30-60 crowd.

I'm just wondering how they're going to approach the responsibility of being a hero. I was disappointed in Claire for using her powers for personal gain (don't ever delude yourselves...that's what it was, however much of a jerk the guy was.) but it adds a dimension of vindictiveness that I didn't see before. It will be interesting to see how or whether she overcomes that to become a true hero. Frankly I think it would be interesting to see at least one hero who doesn't make it because of their failings as people. They think of themselves like Hiro does, but they still are each human, and I think that's why the show shines so far. It doesn't take the realistic bent as far as Unbreakable did, but the premise gives a lot of room for character development.

I'm sorry, what are you talking about? The show is predictable and filled to the brim with clichés. As someone on another forum said, the only cliché they haven't used yet is the glass of water falling down in tragic slow-motion - but we'll probably see that sooner or later.

Of course, the stupid new age crap they keep throwing does little to help my skeptical sensibilities ("10% of our brain"? "the cockroach is the pinnacle of evolution"? duurrrrr), but I'd forgive them if it wasn't such a trainwreck of a show. As it is, though... :|

...Yikes. I guess some people are really easily impressed... No offense.
Wow, butthurt much? Is it impossible to think that someone enjoys this kind of stuff alot and that it hasnt been done in this way before? Seems you think that your opinion is law and that no one else matters. The show is predictable in places yes, but there is alot of things that leave you guessing. The special effects are great and not over done, and its an easy show to watch. It appeals to the comic book geek in all of us and personally i'm really happy that they finally made a show like this. Now go on, your next episode of Pokemon must be ready to download. I dont openly offer abuse on forums, but you sir/lady, are an ass from what you have said ^^b Hope the fact that people are enjoying this show alot wont upset you too much that you emo wrist slash and end it all to the Booneral music from Lost.

Hahaha what? I offered you my opinion in a rather neutral way (minus the "easily impressed" jab, but really, that's nothing to fuss over), you're the one who's getting excited here. Emo? Butthurt? That describes the above post pretty well. Calm down, no need to throw a tantrum because I criticized your beloved show.

The way you worded your post was very condescending. I was tired when I wrote the response so didnt mean it to sound quite as animated as it did, but I still think you need to take a few steps down your ladder as you seem to think that you are above us, and I dont mean that offensively, just think that this is a discussion forum, not a place where we all are going to instantly agree to your posts. I admit I was a little over excited because I had just watched all 4 episodes back to back!

All right. Sometimes I write apparently inflammatory posts without even noticing. This time I don't think I did, though... but no matter.

I'll say though, if the show keeps it up I'll stop watching it, trainwreck. It's mildly entertaining but I can only take so many clichés at once. >_<

They're having a 3 hour showing of Episodes 2, 3, and 4 tonight on NBC for those who've missed it.

Also, they're going to show some clips from future episodes, I think.

edit: Hrmm, and just to liven up the mood again, check this out.

People are going nuts for Hiro.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yes, at the end of the 3 episodes they basically spent about 30-45 seconds laying out some hints at the plot for the next 6 or so episodes. Very interesting, they are trying to keep the viewers hooked by revealing a lot of secrets. I wonder about the ratings for this show. It's going up against 2.5 Men and I'm not sure what else. In my mind it's the best new show this season, so I hope it succeeds.

Also, do you think it's interesting that in a show about superheroes, there is basically very, very little special effects? (At least so far.) I mean, to stop time all you do is have all the actors stand still which is a cheap effect. Reading minds is a cheap effect. Having a split personality is a cheap effect. Painting the future is a cheap effect. Regeneration is a bit more costly, but it's mainly just some time in make-up. I guess if someone flies that would be the most costly thing to do perhaps? I'm not saying the show has low production values - I really like the look and feel of it. However, I think it's interesting that you can do things in a smart way like that to keep production costs down...

Anyways, at the end of the latest episode:

Spoiler:
How kick-ass was Hiro? He was like some sort of time-ninja with a ninja sword strapped to his back. Just awesome. This is what makes me look forward to future episodes the most; hopefully, everyone else becomes that kick-ass too.

It's been doing pretty good in the ratings (averaging more than 13 million viewers each week), as it's one of the top three new shows this season, along with Ugly Betty and Brothers & Sisters. It's going up against Two and a Half Men/The New Adventures of Old Christine on CBS (which are the only shows that have managed to beat it), The Bachelor on ABC, and now Justice (which has taken over Vanished's time slot) on FOX.

Trust me, this show is doing great in the ratings, so it's not going anywhere anytime soon. It's because it's doing so good that it even came on last night in Sunday Night Football's place, even though Friday Night Lights was originally scheduled to air at that time (that's a show I would be worried about, along with Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip).

Heh, I'm guilty of getting my cousin and a lot of his friends from his dorm hooked to this show. They're always dying for more after each episode.

btw, Are they going to have Claire always having something happen to her in every episode to make her regenerate?

that trailer made me eager for tonights episode ^_^

Spoiler:
In the ending of the last episode they were about to get the flying dude so I'm hoping what i saw in the trailer happens tonight.
Seems like he accepts his powers too since he asked "how fast do you think we could fly"

I also wonder if that kid has some powers o-0, wouldn't be a surprise but I wonder what he could do.

Most times it's pretty obvious that's what they're doing, but the scene in the casino with the roulette wheel was pretty nifty. Not so much the drink (which was probably done with a plastic mold), but the way the smoke ring was motionless in the air and the smoke coming from the other guys nose was cool.

I missed the first half hour of tonights episode so I'm a bit confused how the cop ended up back home with his wife. Last week when he was told he'd be "wiped" clean I asumed he would wake up working for the bad guys. (which still maybe the case) I just want ot know wat happened in that first half hour.

Also what else did Hiro (future) have to say?

judging from the preview for the next episode it seems that claire has more than just her spil personality but also some super strength.

Spoiler:
How awsome was the first half hour with the dude finally flying of his own will and actually meeting with hiro. His brother seems to be controlling his power little by little as well by the way he drew the future.

I'm pretty sure if you blow off her head, she dies or take out her heart? Vampire-esque maybe.

And I guess you were right (whoever that was) about the bro having Rogue's powers.

What happened in the preview I missed it? =/

Spoiler:
I think her brain may be her weakness. Not by regular injury obviously, but she died temporarily as long as that stick was lodged in her brain, yet having a metal pipe jammed through her throat was no problem. That rules out impaling alone being the issue. Since Syler cuts open the skull and devours the brain he might actually be able to kill her.

I thought this was interesting (Wikipedia):

Quote:
A frequently appearing symbol linked to the new heroes strongly resembles a stylized RNA molecule. This symbol has appeared numerous times and is frequently in some way related to a hero:

* In the swimming pool at a double homicide crime scene in which Matt Parkman was involved.
* As a recurring shape shown scrolling across a laptop screen in a genetic profiling program created by Chandra Suresh.
* On a drawing done by Peter Petrelli.
* Frequently painted by Isaac Mendez.
* On a post-it note on the map in Mohinder Suresh's apartment.
* Written on a geometry textbook owned by Claire Bennet.
* Written on pictures in Sylar's apartment.
* As a tattoo on the shoulder of Niki Sanders' alternate personality.
* Engraved on the hilt of Future Hiro's katana.
* Printed on the front of Chandra Suresh's book.
* Printed on the upper left corner of the 14th issue of '9th Wonders comic book, written by Isaac Mendez (The 13th issue that Micah was reading did not have the symbol).
* A necklace around Mr. Bennet's special assistant's neck.

yeah your right about the brain thing. I kept thinking that she can regrow tissue in order heal so even if her brains were spladered maybe it would heal when its all together but if her brain were to totally disspear then I guess she wouldn't have a chance

"Save the cheerleader, save the world." That's the mantra for the season, I suppose.

Claire has to have a limit to her ability somewhere. I'm assuming that if you dismember her, she won't be able to use that nifty healing factor of hers so easily. That's just pure speculation, though.

I don't really have much to say about the episode other than I'm still floored by the way the show has me hooked. I look forward to Mondays just because of Heroes.

Spoiler:
Oh, and darn those early commercials for making me assume that D.L. was the one in the blue pants. It turned out to be Nathan after all.

No, we still don't want to spoil it for people who recorded the show and still haven't seen the surprises.

Peter:
Spoiler:
It was rather obvious, at least to me, that Peter could mimic anyone's ability, so long as they're in proximity. I suspected this during the third episode when he was levitating on the rooftop with Nathan nearby. If you paid close attention, Peter's eyes also temporarily whited out when he was near Isaac in an earlier episode.

I doubt that he'll be able to keep the powers permanently. Over time, the duration may increase, but permanency would be too powerful.

However, this does lead me to believe that Peter could be the key to defeating Sylar. Sylar is apparently telekinetic (amongst possible other abilities too). If Peter and Sylar were to meet, Peter could conceivably defeat Sylar at his own game.

Matt:
Spoiler:
They haven't delved into Matt's condition too much. I was surprised that he could still use his abilities as normal, despite being worked on by Mr. Bennett's assistant. What I believe happened is that the assistant probed Matt's memory to see how much he (Matt) knew about Sylar, then erased that knowledge, and all memory of being probed as well.

He also seems prone to being overwhelmed by his own abilities. Could be a possible liability.

Claire:
Spoiler:
I find it very peculiar that she was wheeled into the hospital all battered and bloody, but none of the staff seemed to blink an eye when she was fully healed and walking about the floor. Unless her father's assistant wiped everyone's mind, it seems like a bit of sloppy writing.

On the stick: it's very likely that Claire's regeneration isn't cellular, but rather triggered by a chemical in the brain whenever something like seratonin is released during pain. If that section of her brain were impaired for any reason, it would make sense that it couldn't trigger her regeneration. And it makes sense for Claire to have a weakness.

Nathan:
Spoiler:
I'll bet you anything that he'd known about his flight power for quite some time, as he seemed rather experienced when he escaped from Mr. Bennett.

The incident with Niki Sanders was probably what Bennett's assistant intended to "erase". This way, Linderman could have his blackmail material and Nathan would continue on unknowingly, and therefore never seek to neutralize the threat. When Nathan escaped, he may have suspected something like this, which prompted him to demand double the "contribution money".

Niki:
Spoiler:
Is it just me or is Niki quickly becoming the most boring of the main characters. Yeah, she has a split personality; we established this in the first episode. Since then, she's done nothing but run from everything and everyone. It's getting dull.

But basically, she seems to be a parallel of the Incredible Hulk. Her personality shifts seem to be triggered by anger. When she's assaulted, threatened or insulted, her alter-ego always shows up. She even seems to possess some rather brutish strength in this mode. The preview clip for next week shows her smacking D.L. clear across a room, into a wall.

D.L.:
Spoiler:
It's about damn time he made his appearance! They've only been hinting at his existence since episode 2. To be honest, I thought he'd show up at the convenience store Matt Parkman visited, since it was mentioned that D.L. was seen in one.

But the preview pretty much spoiled any big surprise of what D.L. can do, and confirms the rumors we'd heard up to this point. D.L. can phase, which makes him Kitty Pryde, basically. Niki seems to despise D.L., and believes he's a bloodthirsty killer. It's too early to say whether D.L.'s motivations are pure, though. We really just know that he wants to see Micah.

Isaac and Hiro didn't really have any truly shocking moments this week.

Also, the two-minute preview posted above had a scene in which Matt Parkman is in a room with a guy that's strapped to a table and is holding a cup of water. The guy is causing the water to boil over, leading me to believe that this is potentially another hero for the story. Probably a pyrokinetic. It'd be cool to have a firestarter as a hero.
