My only gripes with this Beta... well, pretty much probably not gonna get fixed in the final release, is the new melee system. I abso-fucking-lutely hate it. 2 punches to the face in less than a second is plain dumb, and the lunging distance... ridiculous. Thought these were supposed to be the normal UNSC troops. Also, punches when shields are low should result in a beatdown. And I'm not too fond of that new assassination system. If I wanted to watch someone knife me in the back, I'd come out of retirement from MW2 and watch every Killcam involving me getting knifed from behind.


Other than that, and the pointless addition of social settings that won't matter, because people will trash talk and become a nuisance no matter what you set it on, it's pretty much a solid beta. Loving the DMR when I actually get my hands on it. The needle launcher is a pretty good replacement to the Corbine, considering that I actually used the corbine sometimes when BR's were taken in Halo 2 and Halo 3. I'm also liking the new ranking system, as now I may no longer have to worry about simply winning the match to hit General, or whatever the hell the highest rank will be, just do enough shit in the match relating to the objective.

Eh, I don't mind the new melee system. It means people can't rely on just ARing you for a bit and then trying to go in for a quick melee. Makes it more about skill than before. Although if you're close enough and things turn into a BEATDOWN CITY fight, well, it is what it is.

Also you mad about assassinations. Stop getting assassinated then, problem solved.

I'm fine with the melee system. If I can't keep my distance, 90% or so of the time I counter rush THEM, and they're almost never expecting it. So even though they were trying to close with me for melee, my superior mind games let me get the first melee in any way. The only problem I seem to have a lot is losing people at melee range that dodge to the left or right. My sensitivity is pretty high, so I don't know if it's the movement speed or FOV, or I just need to get used to something or what.

It is STRESSING ME THE FUCK OUT

For whatever reason I do much, much better in Arena, I super focus on what I'm doing and what I think everyone is doing. I basically maintain a much higher level of situational awareness than normal. I'm normally someone who plays BTB and is sort of messing around with my friends, and in Halo 3 I have a K/D of 1.08 in Ranked and 1.15; I would probably consider myself a little above average. And in Grab Bag/FFA for Reach my K/D is 1.03. That said, my Arena stats are crazy:


The one game I went negative it was -1, and 5 of the 8 games were playing with randoms who weren't talking. And yes, that's a fucking PERFECTION the first game, of which I have ONE of in Halo 3 in over 3,000 games.

I think so far the best thing I like about Arena is that it basically forces me to think more and play smarter, which I definitely see see improving my game outside the Arena. But fuuuuuck man I can barely play my 3 placement games without losing my mind :lol

I am mad that the assassination animations are not weapon based, goddamn bungie spending all their dev money on making sure sword base is set up for max bullshit.

Funny thing with arena, my first 3 matches of the day are almost always my best.

I figured as much, given I pulled 1650~ or so the first two days, but the 1733 I got yesterday was just damn funny. I need to make clips from some of those games.

My thoughts exactly. I love the fact that the only thing you can do is improve, and you don't have to worry about a bad game messing people up.

I'm the same way, too, I heighten my situational awareness and as you saw last night I spend half my time calling shit out. If I'm not getting the kill, my team is, god dammit.

Every game counts, though. If you play three games over 1700 and then thirty under 1300, your daily rating is going to look great because it's an average of the best three (and you need those daily ratings for divisional placement), but all the others are contributing to where you end up. At least, that's the way GhaleonEB explained it on GAF. Shit is unclear.

Arena make u smart tho, agree. Me, Tails, devo, and some Eurogamer random held the Lobby on Sword Base for like four or five minutes yesterday, watching every entrance and covering each other.

Will be on for Invasion tomorrow from about 7am EST until maybe noon.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's still unclear, but the way I understood it was for the placement days, it only counts the best 3 towards your average. But once you're placed in your actual division, every game counts and will up or drop your rating at that point.
