Safri Duo - Episode II
Label: MCA Released: June 26, 2001 Genre: Electronic dance music with REAL DRUMS Tracklist: 1. Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song) 2. Snakefood 3. A-Gusta 4. Samb-Adagio 5. Everything 6. Everything Epilogue 7. Crazy Benny 8. Baya Baya 9. Adagio Review: Honestly, when I first heard the first track on the album, I wasn't as much of a fan of electronic and dance music as I am now. Something about the song floored me, and it's a rather nice and infectious piece. While the whole album doesn't stay at quite that quality level, it's generally a very good album; highlights are the two random classically influenced pieces in the middle and end and Crazy Benny and Everything. Get it here Jam it back in, in the dark. It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

Innocence & Despair: The Langley Schools Music Project
Label: Bar/None Records Released: 2001 Genre: Outsider/Pop Covers by Elementary School Kids/Pop Genius Tracks: 1. Venus and Mars/Rock Show 2. Good Vibrations 3. God Only Knows 4. Space Oddity 5. The Long and Winding Road (Soloist: Joy Jackson) 6. Band on the Run 7. I'm into Something Good 8. In My Room 9. Saturday Night 10. I Get Around 11. Mandy 12. Help Me, Rhonda 13. Desperado (Soloist: Shelia Behman) 14. You're So Good to Me 15. Sweet Caroline 16. To Know Him Is to Love Him 17. Rhiannon 18. Wildfire 19. Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft (The Recognized Anthem of World Contact Day) (Soloist: Tina van de Weteringe Buys) Review: This is what you get when it's the mid-seventies and your elementary school has a hippie for a music teacher. Almost every instrument and voice heard on this album is played (or sung) by a student from schools in Langley, B.C. This is stripped down, raw, and so utterly enjoyable, I can't imagine listening to this without a smile on one's face. Lo-Fi at its finest. Seriously. Words really can't do this thing justice. We Are Your Friends William Shatner - The Transformed Man Label: Geffen Records (Reissue) Date: 2004 (Reissue) Genre: Shatner. Tracks: 1. King Henry the Fifth / Elegy For the Brave 2. Theme From Cyrano / Mr. Tambourine Man 3. Hamlet / It Was a Very Good Year 4. Romeo and Juliet / How Insensitive (Insensatez) 5. Spleen / Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds 6. The Transformed Man Review: Here it is: one of the most famous things ever, if only for the covers of Tambourine Man and Lucy in the Sky. It's Shatner doing spoken word over ridiculously 60's orchestrations. Honestly, I don't think his word's that bad . . . well, it wouldn't be as bad on-stage as it is on this CD or on TV. Seriously. This thing is awesome, and required listening. MR. TAMBOURINE MAN There's nowhere I can't reach. It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

Moxy Früvous - Bargainville
Label: Warner Music Canada, Atlantic Records Released: July 20, 1993 Genre: Folk-pop-rock/Fucking Awesome Tracklist: 1. River Valley 2. Stuck in the 90's 3. B.J. Don't Cry 4. Video Bargainville 5. Fell in Love 6. The Lazy Boy 7. My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors 8. The Drinking Song 9. Morphée 10. King of Spain 11. Darlington Darling 12. Bittersweet 13. Laika 14. Spiderman 15. Gulf War Song Review: OK, so here's something I promised a long time ago: the debut album by awesome Canadian band Moxy Früvous. Seriously, in terms of Canadian bands that I can think of, they're better than Rush and everything Barenaked Ladies did besides Gordon (that album's fucking fantastic and one of the best pop/rock albums I've ever heard). In terms of style, they're FUN AS HELL, having a really smart sense of humor, incredible usage of instrumentation, and . . . dammit, they're just fun. Most songs feature all four of the band members singing, with a few (King of Spain, Spiderman, Gulf War Song) being almost entirely a capella. Oh, and if you haven't heard King of Spain, you haven't lived. I have a college pal who / Says we can pay one price for two / Just ask for Roger / At VIDEO BARGAINVILLE This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. Project 86 - Truthless Heroes
Label: Atlantic Records Release Date: September 24, 2002 Genre: Spoken word/hardcore Tracklist: 01. Little Green Men 02. Caught in the Middle 03. Know What It Means 04. Salem's Suburbs 05. ...A Word from Our Sponsors 06. S.M.C. 07. Team Black 08. Your Heroes Are Dead 09. ...To Brighten Your Day 10. Another Boredom Movement 11. Bottom Feeder 12. Shelter Me (Mercury) 13. ...And Help You Sleep 14. Last Meal 15. Soma 16. Hollow Again 17. ...With Regards, T.H. Review So yeah, more of the offshoot brand of hardcore that is Project 86. Even more musically compact/expansive than Drawing Black Lines, this album's conceptual; while the other album I posted WAY back railed against hypocrisy (among other things), this one's about losing oneself to excess (consumerism, gluttony, lust). It even stirred up some bullshit about how they "can't be a Christian band" because they don't talk about Jesus and stuff; because it's mostly anger, y'know, THAT'S NOT GODLY. Musically, it's more melodic, while just as hard as before. There's no wonderfully heavy noise thing at the end of the album, but there's some strange ambiance in the form of four filler tracks (one ends out the album). I swear the guest vocalist on track 14 is King Soloman from Stavesacre. Highlights are the opening track, track 10 (holy god, the ending) and the ending suite of tracks 15 and 16 (the album COULD have ended after "Soma," but then they go ahead and explode out to the end and it's fantastic). In the end all you sold us was BOREDOM Most amazing jew boots It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

The Wesley Willis Fiasco - spookydisharmoniousconflicthellride
Label: Urban Legends Release date: 1992, rereleased September 10, 1996 Genre: Wesley Willis + punk. Fuck yes. Tracklist:
Review: Umm. Yeah. This is Wesley Willis. With his punk band. That should be all you need to know to download this album. If you don't know what I mean by that, then you need to download the album. You get my drift? CASPER THE HOMOSEXUAL FRIENDLY GHOST What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

Sunn O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions
Label: Ideologic Organ & Southern Lord Release Date: May 18, 2009 Genre: Drone Tracklist:
Review: OK, y'all. If you haven't been able to get into Sunn (and/or drone in general), this might be the album to do it. It's their drone/feedback sound, done up with orchestral (mostly wind instruments) arrangements. The result is something both heavier and darker than even the darkest moments on Black One, and even more melodic than "The Sinking Belle" off of Altar. Most startling is the back and forth between the choir and metal in Big Church (which eventually turns into a chant; the feeling is simultaneously immensely sacrilegious and incredibly sacred), and the incredible feeling of hope brought in the minimalistic horn/trombone chords and runs at the end of Alice. Fantastic album. Get it here FELIPE NO It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

Cream - The Very Best of
Label: Polydor Release: May 9, 1995 Genre: Blues-rock Tracklist:
Review: Umm. Yeah. Hopefully no review is needed, as IT'S CREAM. Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker. If you don't have these songs, go ahead and grab this album. There will be a quiz. Bum, bum, bum, b-bum bum (I Feel Free) William Shatner - Has Been Label: Shout! Factory Release: October 5, 2004 Genre: Shatner + Ben Folds = WIN Tracklist:
Review: Well. It's William Shatner doing spoken word stuff, as is his wont. The difference between this and Transformed Man are A: no dramatic monologues from various plays, B: the only cover is of Pulp's "Common People" instead of odd arrangements of psychedelic tunes, and C: the majority of the music is written or arranged by Ben Folds (who is awesome). Shatner's voice is also much more level on this album; while Transformed Man is a great example of how something might sound good on-stage but awful when recorded and beamed straight into your ears (resulting in one of my favorite guilty-pleasure albums ever), his speech on Has Been has a fantastic flow to it. He uses it both naturally and self-parodically, depending on the general feel of the song, and occasionally one can find themselves simply relaxing into his speech. There are various guest artists on the album, including Brad Paisley (who also has writing credits for the final track), Aimee Mann, HENRY ROLLINS (fuck yes) and Lemon Jelly. Some of the more striking tracks are the gospel-flavored "You'll Have Time," the unaccompanied poem on his wife's death "What Have You Done," and the blast of a rant shared with Rollins, "I Can't Get Behind That." All in all, it's a highly enjoyable listen. I CAN'T GET BEHIND A FAT ASS Fear of Pop: Volume 1 Label: 550 Release: November 17, 1998 Genre: Studio Production FUN/Pop/Experimental/Varied Tracklist:
Review: More Ben Folds & Shatner for you! In this case, we have some WTF musical shit going on, and, at times, it seems that Folds, John Mark Painter (of Fleming and John (and Fleming's on the album too) and Caleb Southern are playing the studio like it's a new toy. The result is fantastically fun, and extremely enjoyable... unless you go into listening to the album expecting some normal piano-pop-punk, like a lot of folks who knew Folds was involved. ANECDOTE: one of my friends, who was as much a Ben Folds Five freak as I was, absolutely hated this album when it came out, going so far as to say "fuck Fear of Pop." I disagreed. I PAID MY MONEY, AND I'M GONNA SEE ALL THE MOVIE Most amazing jew boots It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
Label: Drag City Release: February 23, 2010 Genre: Folk/Blues/Joanna Newsom Tracklist: Disc 1
Disc 2:
Disc 3:
Review: I don't quite know how to describe this album. It's bluesy, it's folky, it's got some really nice jazz stuff going on, and then... she plays the harp. Not on every track; she also accompanies herself on piano at times. Her voice is softer, less harsh than on Ys that came before. Her stories still don't always make a lot of sense (I don't know if I'm quite literary enough to get all of the allusions), but I don't care. The first disc is probably the best out of the three (but it's all still good) with the "fun" story of "Have One on Me," the catchy piano riffing and chorus of "Good Intentions Paving Company" and the gorgeous ode to an aborted fetus "Baby Birch." At least I think that's what the song's about. YMMV. Still, the rest of the album is rather enjoyable, so go on, give it a listen. But when you come see me / In California / You cross the borders of my heart Jam it back in, in the dark. It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.

I apologize for not following my standard format.
First: an album for the smallest number of you: Giant Claw - Eraser's Fantasy This is a massive prog-ish chip thing that was released on || last year that I've only recently been able to appreciate its complete fabulousness. It's loud, it's cohesive, and it's ... well, it's just absolutely great. Really. I can't recommend this harder. At the same time, I know most folks won't like it, so here's a caveat: it's clipped to hell. I can't tell if it's intentional or not, either. Still, this fact doesn't put me off of trying to get folks to listen to it. Go download it for free from || Second: an album for everyone, but you might not go for it just because: The Bran Flakes - I Have Hands This is sample based music at its most insane, crazyhappy finest. The album is simply fun. I can't really explain what it is about these guys, but they make me happy. If you don't believe me, here's a video: CLICK. The album is available on Illegal Art's "Pay What You Want" shop, so it is also available for free (just put 0) in the payment slot when you choose the download: You have to scroll to the album picture in the little thingy at the bottom, and when you click it, it should automatically be added to your shopping cart. And finally, for everyone, no holds barred: Sesame Road It's Sesame Street music. Specifically, songs that sound like/are parodies of popular songs. You need it. You get it here There's nowhere I can't reach. It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
