GFF Soundtrack - General Game Music

Update:
Selection is all done and submitted! Tracklist is located at the bottom of this post.

Hey everybody,
It seems I am supposed to create a thread so we, the general game music enthusiast can coordinate an album to represent this forum. Sounds fun? Then keep reading.

Things to take note of:
  • All songs nominated cannot be exclusive to any one 1st party game (ie Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft/X-box.) Roughly speaking, anything not covered by the other GFF Game Music albums is allowed here.

  • Also, no RPG tracks. Sorry! They're allowed.
It seems the RPG album was done away with, so it is allowed here. Provided its not a exclusive 1st party title.

  • Post what you are nominating!

  • MP3 appears to be the choice format for the compilation. As far as bitrate goes, I say go no lower than 128kbps CBR. Though VBR (-V 2 --vbr-new aka “-alt --preset-standard”) or better is preferred. And absolutely NO transcoding!

  • Total length for the compilation: One CD ~ Or around 75 minutes.

  • Where to send your nominations? Uploading directly to my ftp would be perfect.
    Login information:
    Ip: Kairyu.serveftp.org
    Password: Uploader
    Port: 2107

For anyone that doesn’t know how to use a ftp client I suggest Private Messaging me a http link of said nominations.
Yousendit.com, Megaupload.com, and Sendspace.com are some sites that will do this.

  • Nomination limit?
None technically, I'm still devising a way to choose all nominated tracks. But just to be safe try to nominate at least 3 songs.

As for “how” the nominations will be chosen, I would like to leave up to you guys.
One idea I had was to divide up the CD length according to how many people (preferably established members) want to nominate.
Example: let’s say 8 people decide to participate, divide that with 75~78 minutes. That means each person is allotted around 9¾ minutes.
Only problem with that is only a certain amount of members can participate.

  • What the hell is going on? This thread might give you a idea.

Questions, comments? Still lost? Just post here!
Otherwise start nominating!

I think this is a good idea, but the existence of the other gaming forums kinds of throws things off. So here's my proposal:

we put, on this album, the rarest shit we have on it and still make it sound good. If we keep it to relatively unknown stuff like the tracks that appear in the SOTW we can make it stand out above the other gaming CDs.

How ya doing, buddy?

How many nominations can(should) one upload?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I see what you mean.
Depending on what happens we may be able to merge General Game Music, Mario's Warp Room, Microsoft's Window, Sony Scape, and General PC Gaming forums as one album. Of course this depends how much participation is gathered. For now I'll stick with Capo's arrangement, we have to at least give this thread a few days to settle.

As for choosing the rarest songs from everyone's collection, I can't see why that wouldn't work; I think it becomes more of the matter of choosing stuff we all can agree on. Maybe we even could go as far as nominate a few of the past top SOTW entries. I don't know, just brainstorming here.

Right now, I haven't dertermined that. But my guess is 10 minutes per person, if things turn out ok.

Hm, sorry, but I don't quite get that sentence.

Nevertheless, I have plenty of stuff I could nominate for that CD.

The rarest shit is a good idea.

It means that the music must be from a game that has appeared on at least two platforms. e.g. Final Fantasy X tracks are off limits since it is a PS2 exclusive.

I'd definitely like to take part. I agree that choosing SotW-type songs (even past SotW placers) would be a good idea. 10 minutes for each person might be a bit much, though; I think (er, hope) that more than 7 1/2 people would nominate.

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

So does this mean that music from games like Mario Party or The Legend of Zelda aren't eligible for this compilation, yet stuff like Sonic Heroes or Burnout: Revenge are?

EDIT: Should have read Mucknuggle's post before asking that. o___o Anyway I'll see what I can find and upload them to you according to rules.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Essentially, yes.

Personally, I think it's a good general idea to follow, but not absolutely necessary. If one or two tracks from an obscure Nintendo game make it I don't think anyone is going to cry about it.

Double Post:
Just for comparison, here's the last ST's tracklist:

Burai Prototype - Isshuku Sokuhatsu!
Breath of Fire IV - Opening
Beyond Good and Evil - Home Sweet Home
Robo Aleste - Final Battle
Katamari Damacy - The Moon and the Prince
Dune Spice Opera - Wake Up
Call of Duty - Call of Duty
Phantasy Star Online - Tricktrack Part 2
Megaman 3 - Snakeman
Mario & Zelda Big Band Live - Super Mario 64 Opening & Stage 1 Theme
Guilty Gear Isuka - The Cat Attached To The Rust
Uncharted Waters II - Dance on a Cape of Good Hope
Metal Slug 5 - Windy Day
Chrono Trigger - Last Battle
Secret of Evermore - Variations Of Castle
Ace Combat 5 - Razgriz / The Warsaw Philharmonic

Treasure Master - Title
Grand Turismo 2 - Moon Over the Castle
MechWarrior 2 - Background Music 1
GötzenDiener - Graveyard Labyrinth
Ratchet & Clank Going Commando - Distribution Facility ~Planet Smolg~
The Sword of Xuan Yuan - Story 31
Unreal Tournament 2004 - Hyperblast Redux
Sonic Adventure REMIX - Unknown
Zuntata - Daddy Mulk
Megaman 2 - Bubbleman Stage
Klonoa 2 - Stepping Wind
Ys IV - Walking the Path of Legend
Wild Arms Alter Code F - War Demon
Spin Jam - In-game Music 1
Neorude 2 - Tomorrow of Promise (Last Battle)
-Aka- - To the West
Simcity 4 - Oasis

From what I remember, this list is basically a mix of SOTW winners (including all of week 3), favorites from various VGM contests, tracks various regulars nominated, along with a couple of random stuff I threw on to make it more complete.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah...I don't understand this rule at all. At first I thought it meant that someone can't nominate only songs from 1st-party titles. But if it means no songs from 1st-party titles can be nominated, I don't get the reasoning behind it.

Perhaps it means we're not allowed to nominate stuff that is already covered by another forum, like the Sony one, the Nintendo one or the RPG forum. This is only logical, but where does my precious hentai game music fit in? Western-dominated General PC Gaming? ;__;

We should do this exactly like we did last time. It worked just fine. The RPG forum and General Video Gaming had their own albums, and there were no problems that I am aware of.

I will be uploading my song soon.

If by worked fine you mean the entire album was dominated by these two forums, than ok. The guidelines are pretty clear. This forum is ONLY for multi-platform game music.

Hmm, would PC music be counted as a single platform? Would PC music therefore be ineligible unless ports were made to Mac and Linux?

In that case:

Burnout 2: Point of Impact - Crystal Summit Peak
Kingdom Hearts - Hollow Bastion
Kingdom Hearts II - Sinister Shadows
Phantasy Star Online - A Song for Eternal Story
Phantasy Star Online - From Seeing the Rough Wave
Phantasy Star Online - Mother Earth of Dishonesty Part2
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - A Prisoner Seeking an Escape
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Chaos in the Zoo
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - The Tower of Dawn
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - Explore the Catacombs
The Simpsons: Hit & Run - Mission 15
The Simpsons: Hit & Run - Theme 9

Since the rules for this part of the compilation are not as strict as other sections, that's what I picked.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
