This is the story of Ian Curtis, former lead singer of
Joy Division. Shot entirely in black and white and on location in Manchester where the band grew their short-lived musical roots, it tells the story from the time that Ian is seventeen until his suicide in 1980 at the age of 23 on the eve of their first U.S. tour. I fucking LOVE Joy Division and even though I was only 2 years old when he hung himself, I still feel a great regret in this tormented talent seeking the harsh path out. Perhaps there was something alluring about the glory of an early death.
I'm already stoked by
the trailer and I'm utterly impressed at how well this Sam Riley kid is able to mimic Curtis'
mannerisms and
nuances of showmanship.
Naturally, this film is on my must-see list when it starts playing here. But... I don't know about the rest of you...?
Jam it back in, in the dark.
