Kizyr at LunarNET translated the Famitsu article that was recently released:

LunarNET - Multimedia

The pre-order bonus for the Japanese release is a limited edition soundtrack:

Those who pre-order can receive beautiful soundtrack, with the jacket design by Toshiyuki Kubooka. The songs themselves are arranged by Noriyuki Iwadare. Those who want it should be sure to pre-order!

A word from Noriyuki Iwadare!
Once I got the opportunity to remake the songs for "Lunar", I thought to make it the best possible, so first I bought an ocarina (-laugh-). Then, I practiced, since Alex was an 'expert at the ocarina'. It was a high hurdle, but it felt great. Thus, I rearranged and composed all the melodies. It's full of live performances, so I hope you enjoy. There are new songs, too!

New translation ahoy:
Quote:
When contacted during RPG Land’s Jog at the Moon, XSeed was still weighing its options regarding the translation in LUNAR’s upcoming PSP port. After a complex series coin tosses and white board drawings, the company has decided to forge onward with its own script rather than use the one Working Designs did for the game’s PlayStation release. In related news, Lunar: Silver Star Harmony will be released in Japan this November, and some vague time in 2010 in North America. This writer hopes the line, “All things are real unless you dream they’re not,” is axed from Luna’s song. #### that line.

This should be interesting then. Unlike so many who are great fans of the series, I'm not going to condemn it before trying it. Some say that any script other than the Working Designs script would be dull, but I can't entirely accept that without seeing the offering from XSEED. There's always the chance that they can surprise us all...

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

If you really really want the Working Designs script you might as well just play the PSX version. It would be better to see XSEED's own take. I mean just imagine, they might have talented writers of their very own. Gasp.

From Xseed's past games I've played, I won't hold my breath on the "brilliant writing" department ='D

They could change! Although I bet a horribly broken English version of Lunar would hold A LOT of charm actually.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Well exactly. It's not like it's hard to emulate, copy, download, whatever the PS1 version.

They should just replace that song with "Dreams" by the Cranberries or better yet "I Wonder if Heaven Got a Ghetto" by Tupac.

What? Why? It's pretty obvious Gaijin Works wasn't tapped for this, and Vic has even made statements several weeks ago regarding how he offered his assistance but was not taken up on it.

This has been known for a while. While a shame, the essence of the story remains intact. And as long as it's not full of grammatical errors, it should still be fine. Minus the pop culture references, I guess.

That said, WA5's translation wasn't all that terrible (comparitively to other middle budget PS2 jRPGs) so I don't think it'll outright blow, at least.

How ya doing, buddy?

Well before we start blowing XSEED up over this, I've been told that the article isn't all that accurate after emailing my friend to ask him about it. I'm waiting for the details and will post when I get them from him later.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Probably. Or the game could be shit from the ground up.

Well, compared to Covenant anyway.

I haven't played an XSEED game (to my knowledge) and I am disappointed that they're not going to be using any of Working Designs translations, much like Ubisoft's translation disappointed me. However, I'm curious to what about that little article isn't correct.

That's not a very fair comparison though, considering how fantastic Covenant was. I never could get into SH3 because all the characters were terrible.

Yeah, SH3 was horrible from the get-go. I know historic accuracy isn't an aim of theirs, but I lolled when they showed Al Capone as a svelte young man, and Elliot Ness was all "hay sup Al-dude" at prison.

Shit characters, but the shit translation made it worse.

When LUNAR: Silver Star Harmony was announced by XSEED Games as one of their upcoming titles for North America, one of the big questions Lunar fans had was whether the translation would retain the Working Designs script or go in a different direction. Because of the polarization of LUNAR fans that love the WD style of quirky humor and those that have always wanted a direct translation, many wondered what direction XSEED would go to please the entire fandom. So amid reports this week of a completely new translation, we hit up XSEED directly to get some clarification and I think both sides of the LUNAR fandom will be pleased with the answer.

The plan is to refresh the Working Designs translation, keeping the charm while updating the text and bringing the translation closer to the original Japanese. XSEED understands that the original Working Designs translation was a big reason why many people loved the title, so they're trying to make the translation both true to what people loved about it, while still giving old time fans a new experience. New scenarios and a lot more detail about the world of LUNAR can be expected from the game. Also, no decision has been made on voice acting. While there is no official drop date, LUNAR: Silver Star Harmony will likely be out sometime in early 2010.
So it is going to be a mix of both the same translation and some of theirs, just a bit updated in terms of references and other things. I just hope Meyrod stays as that backwater (literally lewl) town.

Saying it's going to be "a mix" and "a bit updated" is your own interpritation. XSeed's own words more sounded like keeping the same *style* while writing a script that was, in the much bigger part, new.
