Listening to Drudkh and Hate Forest nonstop these days. Took time to grow on me but I'm totally addicted now.

Also, been hooked on Ashen Light's Stary Bilini album a couple weeks earlier. I liked Ashen Light's first alnum but that one was a totally awesome surprise. Folky nature influenced instrumental Black Metal at it's best.

Nyep ~

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Supernal Music has been supposed to release new Drudkh for almost a month now... RELEASE IT ALREADY BASTARDS

I'm going through an Slavic Black Metal phase again. Discovered many side projects from the whole Oriana clan, among which are a few gem.

Special mention to Finist which is as terrible as it's excellent. ^_^;

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Uh yeah they just won Eurovision and it was awesome and all but it's not metal, really. More like some hard rock hybrid. It's pretty listenable anyway, though maybe not from a l33t metalhead point of view.

Whoah you mean you don't own it or never even heard it ?! And yeah, like a lot of Russian bands it's really hard to buy their releases. Try emailing them?

Anyway, just in case and for Vemp' sake anyway:

Oh, and while the new Korpiklaani is fun, they still don't do much to me. I always feel like I'm kinda listening to some weird ska/metal when I listen to them. =/

Anyways, im trying to delve into a bunch of Viking/Folk metal via slsk as it is one genre i never really delved into until now; but it is kinda like stabbing at the dark and hoping i get something good.

Last night, i got a bunch of stuff including

Falkenbach ( heralding the fireblade, Magni Blandinn ok megintiri )
Bergthron ( Faust fur faust )
Helheim ( Yersinina pestis )
Manegarm ( Nordstjarnans tidsalder )
Mithotyn ( King of the distant forest )
MoonSorrow ( Suden uni )
Morrigan ( Celts, Plague Waste Death )
Otyg ( I troldskogens drommande Morker )
Ragnarok ( Domgerorn )
Thyrfing ( Hednaland )
Vintersong ( Cosmic Genesis, Visions from the spiral generator )
Empyrium ( Weiland )

I haven't listened to much of these yet as i just got them last night, but hopefully at least a few of those bands are decent enough. Also does your Screen name happen to originate from the band " morrigan "?
I'd recommend DC++ over soulseek, but heh.

As for Viking metal, you seem to be on the right track. Early Thyrfing (first 2 albums are my fav), all Moonsorrow, Falkenbach, Manegarm ...

Otyg is more Folk metal but I guess it could be argued. Still great. Get Storm's Nordavind if you like them (actually get it anyway it's that awesome). Vintersorg I never liked much eventhough everyone say they're awesome. Same goes for Einherjer ... =/

The Russian equivalent of those would be bands like Arkona, Pagan Reign, Temnozor, Nomans Land ... I'm just saying you'll like them if you like the above.

Oh btw it would seem they just released a new album. Must get !

And bleh about Blind Guardian ... It's all about Nightfall to me and I didnt really like Opera already ...

haha I like how we (almost) always agree ~

Also, call me noob, but I've just slipped from the psyche/prog rock phase I was in to rediscover the fathers of metal which, with the exception of Rainbow, I know relatively few about.

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dio, ... and all the gang, here I come ~

Listening to Black Sabbath debut now, and wow, is this really 1970?

Aaah, the seventies ... what an endless source of wonders you are ...

So I've gone all the way from 1970 to 1980 with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Rainbow so far. Loved Sabbath and Priest, and all Rainbow with Dio, but I knew that already.

Anything fantastic I'm missing? =p

Could be. You know, the thing is I actually used to listen to Black Sabbath, Judas Priest or even Accept, Ozzy solo, Motorhead an all the kind, in my mid teen years.

At that time, my step sister gave me her whole hard rock cassettes collection from when she was herself a teen, and so I was suddenly loaded with literally hours and hours of music.

The only things I got from it were total worship for early Alice Cooper, Rainbow, the Am I Evil song by Metallica and, granted, a general taste for metal. But all the rest? Well, I guess it kinda canceled itself from having so much to listen to at an early age.

Thus why I'm even more surprised at how great some of this stuff is now that I listen to it something like 10 years after. And also thus why I'm open to (re)listen to basically anything.

How ya doing, buddy?

Okay then ~

By the way, Lent had to warn me about the new Rhapsody like 2 weeks after it was released! How come nobody mentioned it in here?

Pretty good album btw. Really sounded like they were covering themselves, but it has that fresh Rhapsody thing, so it's all good. Oh yeah they changed their name to Rhapsody of Fire too, for some copyright reasons.

And as much as I liked that album, I almost equally disliked Luca Turilli's 2 latest efforts. Seriously, wtf Luca? ;_;

Well, Turilli is Rhapsody's guitarist, if you didnt know, so yeah I guess there are chances. And I like Turilli's older albums, just not his latest 2 solo works.

And about Wintersun, well, as much as I liked the first album, I will always feel it's a big shame he splitted from Ensiferum, as both bands became less than old Ensiferum was.
