[General Discussion] Black Friday GETS

I have this belief that unless what you're buying (for yourself) on Black Friday will either:
1) feed you
2) give you a better <fill in appropriate word here> life
3) help you net more money/ a better job,
It's totally not worth that extra couple bucks you're gonna save. Think of the gas money you'll waste just driving around looking for parking.


Some of you may have already seen this on my FB.

But anyhow, I don't tend to shop on Black Friday because I'm either too busy catching up on sleep or avoiding the crowds. This year, I didn't shop because I've been working for 14 hours, nearly straight aside from eating and driving to and from different job sites.

I usually don't have a desire to get "more stuff" just because it's a ridiculously good deal. I have a few friends who'd go out and buy the ridiculous door-buster sales at SEARS/KOHL'S for mail-in rebate DVD player sales and stuff like that to DONATE to charities and people in need, but for the most part, I see most people lining up for Black Friday doing so as shopping for themselves. I just don't see the point of doing so for myself since I pretty much have what I need and what I need now (a space heater) isn't all that expensive and not that much worth the 2 hour line for the extra $20 savings.

So anyways, what did you all get this shopping season?

Going into crowds on Black Friday is going to get you killed.The stories of that woman who whipped out the pepper spray at Walmart is fucking disgusting.

If you're not assaulted, trampled, or otherwise murdered on your way to get 10 bucks off of a TV then you should consider yourself lucky at this point.

The online deals though are great.

No Pants? Check.
Half off some vidya? Check.
Nerd shit for cheap? Fuck yeah.

I'll post tomorrow what I hauled in but so far it's looking pretty solid from a couple of places.

While some of it's for myself, I also picked up a few gifts for Christmas if it was as easy as two clicks. Saves time, money, and energy compared to picking it up on the week of December 15th, at least.

I hear there was a fight over some sheet sets at my Walmart. Something about $80 sheets marked down to $20 just sends the soccer moms into a murderous frenzy. I'd never bother with fighting the crowds, so I just strolled out with a copy of God of War III for $15 at 10:30pm. We had two copies left in the case, unmarked, that the electronics employees forgot to take out. Not a fantastic deal, but it was the only thing in the ad that interested me.

As for the online sales, I only bothered with Fangamer. They released a bunch of new stuff, so I grabbed the Star Man jacket, Blackjack shirt, Imperial magnets, and pre-ordered the Mother 3 handbook version 2. Like I could pass up FF VI merchandise.

I've always seem to be drained of money around this time of the year, so I didn't get anything; nor would I risk standing in line in the cold middle of the night for what is ultimately a glorified discount.

A few online stores over here ran Black Friday sales events but primarily to get rid of all the junk they couldn't shift any other way and most of it wasn't even that cheap. Everyone's so skint over here these days and stores are constantly running sales anyway so the concept hasn't caught on at all. God of War 3 for example is available for £15 all the time with minimal searching online.

Um, it isn't a glorified discount. It's just a discount. Getting something for less than it is usually worth. Pretty much the definition of a discount. So, italics, I guess?

Also, I got a kitchenaid stand mixer for 100 bones, so rock on right thurr. Couple pans for the kitchen for cheap. Rock on right thurr too. Also Fangamer stuff. FF VI like a motherfucker.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I went to a Gamestop around noon and got Battlefield 3 for $40, and Ultimate MvC3 for the same price (I don't think that was a sell price, though). Anyways, there are a million Gamestops in Vegas, so there was nobody there at all.

Also, I bought this, but I don't think it is actually a Friday/Monday sale, it's just a clearout discount.

SailorDaravon got a nice speaker for the bedroom tv finally. Nothing fancy, just something to cure that god awful crackling noise I'd hear from the 360 games sometimes. Skyrim in particular, when a dragon would land and/or dies, that high pitch sound would crackle really loud. :\

Also I didn't actually go OUT for shopping on black friday, but my parents did. Fred Meyer was having a 20% off all video games, accessories, and pc software sale and they were going anyway, so I gave them some money and they picked me up BF3, UMvC3, and MW3.

I also picked up Magic: 2012 on xbla for black friday. 400MS points, woo woo.

I actually wound up going to some stores a little after midnight on Black Friday. I hadn't planned on it, I was just up at the time and was waiting for a lightning deal on Amazon that was happening at 4 AM.

When I showed up at the local big box area there was a MASSIVE line to get into Best Buy, so instead girlfriend and I wandered into some of the other stores that had opened at midnight. Possibly the best was Petco. I think there were two employees and one other customer in the store. BB was pretty packed when we eventually got in after the line went away, and I couldn't believe the loads of shit people were buying. Also, looking at cameras was pretty hilarious. "Yes, we'll take the BF-only $100 camera with the $120 accessory pack including a 4 GB memory card, a shitty tripod, and a carrying case."

Wound up also stopping in a Target on the way home since I needed a few groceries. They were also pretty busy, but nowhere near as much as Best Buy.

All we wound up getting were two cameras off of Amazon (which showed up on Monday thanks to Prime shipping) and a $3 sleep shirt for girlfriend from Target. The main thing I was looking for this holiday season was a new video card for my PC, but it seems like there wasn't one sale on one in the $150-$250 price range.

Also, anyone know of the best place to buy a Kindle this year? Parents asked which one I wanted for Christmas the other day, and I want to make sure they at least get the best bang for their buck.

I don't have the time to play Skyrim to the extent that I'd want to. I'd rather just wait for it to drop to under $20.

UMvC3 is pretty fun, though I haven't played it online yet.

Mostly excited for 1Q84. I don't know if I'll ever really immerse myself in Dead Island but it was only $25.
