Nasty Virus/Spyware
I somehow got a very nasty virus/spyware. Whenever I boot up my laptop, the background picture on my desktop is changed to a blueish screen with large letters saying that my computer has been infected with a spyware, click here to fix the problem.
I've booted up my laptop using safe-mode and downloaded the latest definition and version of Spybot Search and Destroy and AVG anti-virus. I ran both programs in safe-mode, without any success. When I re-boot my laptop, I still get the blueish screen with the warning message. Suggestions? Thanks. Jam it back in, in the dark. Dance party! |
Operating system? Please specify whether it's x86 or x64.
From the sound of it, it could be a SmitFraud like virus. Depending on what OS and whether it's 32 or 64 version, you may be able to Combofix it, but I wouldn't recommened that unless you read the entire faq first and understand the risk that you're taking. There's nowhere I can't reach. I am not a clever pony... |
One of the most harsh antivirus programs I've tried was Avira's offering. Give it a whirl.
If that doesn't do it, boot from a LiveCD and scan your PC. Download them here: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List Finally, you might want to try Virus Effect Remover to remove some effects other antivirus products don't do. How ya doing, buddy? |
I'm using Windows XP. Media Center edition.
Thanks, I'll give those programs a shot! I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? Dance party! |
Malwarebytes is a great spy/scare/adware remover as well.
As far as combofix goes, I've never had any issue running it. We use it regularly here in the lab without fail. Its a great program, but if you have AVG installed, combofix will NOT work, just an fyi. I was speaking idiomatically. |
My be-all, end-all one-knockout-punch for this kinda stuff is ComboFix
A guide and tutorial on using ComboFix Its a tough little program thats saved my ass a time or two from malware/virus stuff that my anti-virus and other programs couldn't fix. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
