Damn. I just lost Kurado's house on a bet I lost.

You guys ever gamble? Has it ever become a problem? If you don't, do you know people that do? Card games, casinos, sports, whatever.

Even though I lived in Vegas just over 11 years, gambling at the casinos never compelled me. I never did it before I was 21, and it wasn't until my brother came to visit me when I was 22 that we went to a casino and I tried some Keno and regular slots. I ended up winning 240 dollars after spending five on some Evil Knievel themed slot, and that was cool. Over the next two months I settled down but my brother got to the point where he pawned a 3000 dollar ring for 100 dollars with the understanding that he could get it back in week or less for 125. He quickly gambled and lost that hundred, and now that he's in prison that ring is long fucking gone.

In prison there was A LOT of gambling, mainly televised sports games and card games, but I stayed away. I ran a sports book for two months though, and made a good bit of cash doing that. Until one night a particular game of Denver vs. Oakland (NFL) in December of 2004 or so, in the snow, fucked me over good. I lost 200 dollars and I never ran a sportsbook again. That's what I get for trying to take advantage of the situation.

When I was 15 me and a friend and his parents went to Arizona, I think it was Phoenix, and one of the things we did was go to the dog races. That was awesome, reminded me of horse races I'd go to in Santa Anita, CA. I think that's the only type of betting I'd potentially have a problem with.

Good thing that Guatemala doesn't even have rooster races. ¬_¬

Yes, I gamble, but not very often. Unless I am working at a store where they sell lottery tickets and scratch tickets, I rarely buy them. Its usually not a problem for me at the casino either to go and spend $20 and leave. I usually set myself good limits so not to overdo myself. A friend of mine was a little different. He lost $800, won it all back, and then went to play some more and lost it all again....

I don't gamble in Casinos. I'm very prone to addictions in that area and I know it'd be a problem. I think it's moreso because of the environment and available options in a Casino. I'm just the type that can't resist once I get a taste.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't care for gambling, however I would like to learn blackjack more and learn how to play it in my favorite, card counting or some other techniques rather than leaving it to chance. I don't like chance games, I like games that require skill and strategy.

In college, some friends and I (as well anyone that happened to show up) would have weekly poker (texas hold 'em most of the time) games. Generally they, were weekly, sometimes more than once a week. And typically, games wouldn't finish until 6 or 7 am in the morning. Fun times.

I also played online poker for a few months from February to November last year. That proved very profitable for me (made about $1500), but I just couldn't commit time to it anymore. I'll admit it was an addiction for the first few weeks, but I got it pretty controlled later. I was actually gonna get back into it again a few months ago, but then there was that law or something that got passed. :/

I went with my family to Vegas last year, which was 3 weeks before I turned 21. That was pure evil.

I'll probably hit up Atlantic City sometime with some friends once they get back into the area just for some fun there. Some friends that are still in school are graduating this week, so there'd be much more time for them to go out and do stuff next year. Can't wait! ^^

I play poker twice a month, with friends. The stakes are very low. The winner ends up taking about 25 quid home with him, usually. There are between six and ten of us, for any given game. Gambling won't ever be a problem for me. I only do it for fun.

I don't gamble with money, I normally play cards with some friends, and we use matchsticks instead of money, still as much fun as betting with money though.
I know a few people that have had problems with gambling, they couldn't stop, and nearly cost their families all of that they own.

Speaking of which, I just played my very first poker game that had money on the stakes last night. I have to say it was quite fun, and made you think twice about whether you want to check or fold with your hand. It was fun while it lasted, and it only dropped me $20, but I find it was a good experience. Saturday night poker on a weekly basis isn't something I could do right just yet, considering I'm still a newb at good strategies in card games. However, I find that more fun than slots or VLTs or the like. Those are just pull the handle and hope that your nickle, which turns eventually mounds of dollars wasted, are quite addictive I hear, and it's the instant gratification of chance, rather than strategy.

I would never consider gambling with cards until I felt fully confident, so for now I just play safe games with my friends. However, I have been to the horse races and bet on a couple. I was 15 at the time, and I won £30, so I was pretty chuffed. I don't think I'm the kind of person who is good at gambling though so usually I steer well away from it.

My brother won £60 from £5 by betting everything he won onto the next round of roulette in our local Ladbrokes, and he also entered a poker tournament but he didn't do very well I hear.

Not a big fan of gambling with money, myself. I like pulling the levers on slot machines or playing roulette on Dragon Quest VIII, but the something-for-nothing attitude generally ends with a loss. The odds of winning aren't good enough for me to really buy into it, plus I think it's a fundamental issue with our society's mindset. But what do I know.

One or two Fridays a month I get together with a few friends and we play poker for change. No one ever really brings more than six or seven bucks to the table, and usually we stop after a few hours and no one's lost more than a buck or two. It's more enjoyable for the spending time [and watching the stupid mistakes we occasionally make] and drinking than for the actual gambling, and no major money risk.

My gambling experience is limited to playing small change poker games when I started med school. It didn’t last long because after losing a little, I decided to cut my losses and drifted away from that crowd. In hindsight it was probably a good decision: as the two biggest proponents of the group eventually got kicked out after failing consecutive years.

About the only time I ever gamble is when I really need the money for something. For instance, back in late 2000 I seriously wanted a PS2 since there were several games I wanted to play for it, but I didn't have the cash. I received $50 for Christmas from the Grandparents, so I took the money and went to play Bingo with it that night since my Grandmother someone to take her to the Bingo Hall. I decided to stay as well, and ended up turning $35 into $400.

Needless to say, I had my PS2 the very next day.

I do buy lottery tickets from time to time, though most of them always come up short as usual. Did win a couple hundred from getting four numbers one time, but other than that nothing.

Well, I heard Bingo's a good way to scrape up some quick cash.

Gambling has never really interested me in any way, mainly because I'm stingy with money. Though if it doesn't involve money, like Domino's idea, then there's no problem.

That's what we did and if the sun wasn't coming up when all the chips were lost, it was considered to be a wasted night.

Yeah pretty much the only gambling I've done is Lottery. Don't care much for large-scale cash betting. Unless, of course, you consider small bets between friends. I do that too, but no casinos/betting on sports.

I've never actually even purchased a lottery ticket. So I guess you could say I've never technically gambled other than the casual, "man, I'll bet you $20 [insert random speculative statement here]."

Haha, true that. There were occasions however when it's really just been way too long and the game was heads up; the two players left would just agree to split the pot based on chip counts. I'll also admit that while I fared in online poker really well, I lost overall in "live" play. In my "career" I'm probably down about $200. But it's always fun, comparable to paying for entertainment: $20-$100 for a fun, long night.

I also wanna mention that they play poker in one conference room here at work during lunch. I haven't joined in any of the games since I can't bring myself to mingle like that with 40+year-olds; but maybe sometime... =/

I'm the sort of person who'd almost always rather do something the safe way rather than the risky way, so I don't gamble with money.

I do however enjoy gambling when there is no actual value to the "money" being wagered, e.g. in video games or when playing with chips with the family.
