Maverick Hunter X remixes: Yay or nay

I say yay man. These tracks are my new favorite game to listen to. Superbly remixed in more of a techno style while still not losing the overall feel of the original. It's not the stark contrast I was worried about when I first heard that they were remixing. Some of the guitar riffs get a little out of control, but it works with the futuristic world that MMX finds himself in.
The Vie tracks are also a nice contrast to X's themes, and remind me of Vile's later themes in teh series. Overall, I recommend this to anyone who even remotely likes Mega Man music.

Edit:
Oh yeah -->

Hell yes. I love the Irregular Hunter X music. Vile's stage music is the best. Too bad the credits music from the SNES weren't remixed. I can't wait to hear how the music from IHX2 sounds like.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I wasn't too impressed overall, probably because some of my favorite tracks, like Opening Stage (X), Stage Select 1 (X), and New-Type Airport (Storm Eagle's Stage), sounded too off due to those aforementioned guitar riffs being a little over the top. Opening Stage (X) was particularly disappointing due to the whiny sounding guitar. It sounds like they were trying too hard to make the remixes sound especially cool and came up short in the process for a lot of them.

On a positive note, though, I thought the work on Snow Base (Chill Penguin's Stage) was fantastic.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

From what I've heard, that's the reason why the remixed music for MMX2 was not in the MMX Collection. The remixed music for MMX went to Irregular Hunter X.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'm confused. Was this an officially released album? Is it in the Megaman X Collection? I've never heard of it before.

Maverick Hunter X is a remake of MMX for the PSP.

I go with a big thumbs-up for the remix. Every track is golden to me. My favorites in the remixed set are Snow Base and Tower Fortress - the Tower especially, was always the ultimate "cool" stage in MMX for myself. So seeing the graphically beautiful version along with that remix kick in... totally sold the game for me.

What I especially look forward to is IHX 2 and 3... I always felt that the music in MMX1 was a special cut above the OST of MMX 2 and MMX 3. What I wonder is if the same composer remixes those sets, he can help nudge the tunes up a bit toward the MMX 1 level. I do hope they get the same person to handle all three titles, for consistency.

How ya doing, buddy?

It was okay. Some tracks were redone nicely, but some didn't fare too well at all. Boomer Kuwanger's stage in particular was royally manhandled. Several tracks seem to have been changed radically for no real reason other than some misguided need to change everything. Could have been worse (like the PSX version of X3), but it could have been a lot better too.

You probably feel this way because MMX the game was a cut above the rest. They hit it again on X4, and then downhill again. Now X8 is widely recognized as a much better sequel.
Guess MMX hits in 4s.

The arrangements were OK overall. I didn't feel any of the songs were butchered, but I didn't feel any were vastly improved upon either. The whole thing was actually very conservative melody-wise. I'd have to say the best thing about the soundtrack is actually the new movie promo track. Too bad it wasn't longer.

Of all the Mega Man X music (X1-X8 & Command Mission) I have, Sigma Stage 1 from Mega Man X1 remains one of my favorites. But I never really ever heard a remix of the song that I thought was very good; I felt the original track was far superior. The rendition in IHX, however, just blew me away when I heard it. They did a fantastic job, with that one at least. (The rip on Tappy's FTP has it labeled as 'Final Stage 1') The other tracks are pretty good too, but for me, this one track made it all worth it.

Forgive me for the perpetually stupid questions. Was there an official release for this OST, or did everybody here just happened to play the game?

No official release, but rips are all over. Atomic Fire has an OK one, but I'd get Tappy's if you can.
