DS Lite shortage
I've noticed that there seems to be a shortage of DS Lites in every color. It looks like they go for around $190 on eBay when retail is $130. Is there any reason for this shortage? Has Nintendo stopped producing them? I ask because they have some at a B&M store nearby for retail price, and I'm wondering if I should buy them and dump them on eBay.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
They've just been selling incredibly well during the holiday season, and now that it's over, they should be showing back up on shelves. You might still be able to sell them for a decent amount before the craze dies down, but you don't have a long window of opportunity.

Eh it really depends of which area you are from. I see no shortage here. I can pick up a DS Lite Onyx anytime I want. I... just don't need it.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ---------------{ Currently playing }-- ... Nothing.... really. -----------------------{ Last rips }-- Trauma Center New Blood (Wii) Trauma Center Second Opinion (Wii) Planet Puzzle League (DS) ---{ Currently in ripping progress }-- Dragoneer's Aria (PSP) Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS) -----------{ Other stuffs about me }-- My VGM Collection (last update: mar. 03, 2008) -------------------------------------- |
Same here. DS Lites are still pretty abundant, but what Starman said is basically true. Holiday season rush. It was a good year for Nintendo. Now that the rush is over, they're gonna slowly stock themselves back up on the shelves.

Alright, I won't risk it then. I guess the question now is whether I want one for myself..
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yes, you do. If you're considering a PSP, don't even bother with that. If you're more into the game aspect, just get a DS. The games beat the crap out of PSP anyway. And anyone I've asked who has a PSP said the games got boring as hell, and ended up getting one themselves anyway.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Oh yeah, DS is the way to go. I had a PSP for awhile, and ended up selling it off since it wasn't everything it was cracked up to be - it was also too delicate for it's own good. After Metal Gear Acid just stopped loading on me though, that was it. To the pawn shop. Of course, now that Ratchet, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Disgaea are coming to the system - damn.
How ya doing, buddy?

Not to mention you can play PSX games on them.
Anyways, I've been trying to get a DS lite for a while too, no luck. Just have to wait out the shortage. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Though I have a Onyx DS Lite already, my younger brother's DS Lite was "not working" and so I tried to replace [warranty] it. Well in the end I could not because all Best Buys and lots of other stores are totally sold out but they still had a good amount of PSPs.
Happy that Nintendo is doing good =:P Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I haven't been able to find any in the entire Delaware Valley. My brother was supposed to get one for Xmas, but the lack of DSes ruined that. Poor bastard can't even play his New Super Mario Bros.
I asked around at several places, and no ones giving me a clear answer on when they're getting more units in, excluding one Gamestop who told me they'd get some at "the end of January". Too bad the PSP isn't doing as well (though it is still doing pretty good). There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I'm just waiting for Sony to completely bail out on the PSP and it drops through the floor price wise and then load up on dirt cheap titles for the games I'm after on the system. In the meantime, I'm flooded with too many quality DS titles to consider getting a PSP.

thanks for the link tele, i'm book marking it right now I was speaking idiomatically. |
Ugh. No place nearby where I live has any DS Lites in stock. It makes me sad.

Wow, still? If you have access to them, I guess you could make a quick few bucks on ebay.
