So we got the PS/PS2 Memory Card adapter in today, retailing for $14.99. Anyone heard anything about the PS/PS2 Controller adapter they're supposed to release? Kinda would've thought that'd be a launch accessory.

Rock basically said all their needs to be said in the 720P VS 1080i situation.
As for the controller adaptor for PS2/1 <-> PS3 we know it's coming, we just don't know when. It's too bad that ordinary adaptors of this type doesn't work, but that's because the adaptor will need the PS Guide button in order to activate the adaptor or design a workaround for the adaptor, either way we basically have to sit back and wait for Sony to work something out. As for me, I'm still waiting to find a PS3 to actually buy, hopefully it'll be easier then finding a 360 was last holiday season. ^^; What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Something interesting I noticed... Gamestop shipped out a holiday add-in in the newspaper this morning, likely for Black Friday madness. In the PS3 section, it mentioned that if there aren't PS3s available, they'll be selling $600 PS3 Gift Cards for when they come in.
They also have "clever thought bubbles" of people for each console/game's page... 360: "I didn't know what the perfect gift was, but now I know I got it." Scarface: "This is paradise, Scarface is in my hands!" 360: "The great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games, it's showing everyone online that I did." PS2: "I don't know if you can stay up for a week straight, but I'm gonna try!" PS3: "PS3 is gonna look great on my BIG screen TV ...hint, hint." Hardware bundles: "In case I haven't said it, thanks, thanks, thanks!" Used games: "Finally, an excuse to put my homework down!" Wii: "How do they wrap so much fun in such a little box?" Jam it back in, in the dark. |
well I got my Resistance game ^^ and I never had so much fun in a console FPS since Golden Eye on N64 XD let see you guys online ^^

Awesome I'll see if you're online sometime and hop into a game.
Double Post: Doublepostspam. So I realized tonight that I hadn't tried out the backwards compatibility of the PSX titles yet... Well damn. I popped in Vagrant Story, game loaded up incredibly fast, didn't even have to press the PS button again once it switched into PSX mode... The game was extremely crisp (and pixely/jaggy, but that's PSX for you) and I'd have to say was an entirely better experience than playing a PS2 game on the system... The only common problem I run into with PS3's backwards compatability, is that using the HDMI cable and downscaling the resolution manually still sucks the contrast out of the color drastically. When I switch to S-video (since both are connected to the monitor simultaneously), the colors become infinitely richer and games take up the whole screen rather than having oodles of black surrounding them. So yes, Vagrant Story is GO. FFT also works great. Matsuno collection on PS3 confirmed. I'll try out some more PSX games later, but for now I'm sleepy from the consumption of many good foods. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

there's mainly one game only that I want to see come out for the Playstation 3. you'd thinkthis'd come out too since sony has a good deal with capcom. who here votes to see XBOX 360's Dead Rising come out for PS3?
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? You know what? you just might be full enough of shit to apply for congress |
I hope it stays exclusive to the 360!
I would also like a X86 compatible Linux on my PS3! I was speaking idiomatically. |
So the PS3 won't recharge your sixaxis controller while it's on standby mode. I learned this myself.
What I didn't know was that you could also use your PC to recharge the controller. Kind of neat. So did anyone who missed out on the first shipment manage to secure a system on the second? I'm not sure if 100k shipped this week like Sony promised, but there were shipments out (and gone) today. Sounds like the downscaling problem will be solved by a firmware update, which is a good sign. The question is when it'll be ready (hopefully by the next update around december). Oh, and... http://www.redkawa.com/ This'll be the first thing I'm trying out once I get to go online again. How ya doing, buddy?

Impressive!
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus Sony put out a huge searchable database detailing exactly which games have issues with backwards compatibility, if they're totally fine, or if they don't work at all. FELIPE NO |

You guys should go here and help Terrasoft with making YDL PS3 linux as feature rich as possible for the PS3 by making adobe make their flash compatible with YDL PS3.
Also SNK has announced that their older titles will be avalible through the PS3 store. MS has not returned their mails about the same for Xbox live and one can presume MS is not interested by that. How ya doing, buddy?

wow soldier the video converter and the file server is great XD now I can transfer easily all video I want XD I'll try to watch some movies that way^^
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I can't wait to try it myself. I got the DSL working on my PCs, but it seems I have to add some extra settings to my PS3. I'm using Comcast fast-access DSL (DSL goes through the cable line now). Any idea what I'm supposed to change so I can go online with my PS3?
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
hmm no sorry I never had dsl :\
when you'll get it working, we should meet all three of us someday for a resistance multiplayer match ^^ This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Hopefully I'll figure it out within the hour, then we can have ourselves a long-delayed online match.
I was wondering, in what format are the mini-games saved (when you purchase them)? If they're saved in the HD, can they be moved around with the appropriate storage (like a 1gb flash drive)? If so, then wouldn't you theoretically be able to download those games for free if they were hosted on some infamous torrent sites? Or is there a layer of protection to prevent this? Okay, I'm back online. The bluetooth headset I bought the other day works like a charm too (you don't have to hold a button like with SOCOM, you just chat), although there was one occasion where it seemed to interfere with my controller, causing a slight lag. So how does this File Server program work? Do I need a Wi-Fi connection like with the PSP's Remote Play? I installed it but so far I'm getting 404 errors. EDIT: Nevermind, turns out I had to type the address from the File Server unto the PS3. It works, but it seems you can't save anything from the Internet to the PS3's HD, and have to use some other storage media. That pretty much defeats the purpose when you can just transfer files directly with a flash drive and whatnot. In the meantime, I have a new question; I purchased a wireless keyboard the other day, but it turns out it uses a PS/2 connection (even though the guy told me it was USB, ass). I have a PS/2 to USB adaptor, but I need a USB male-to-male cable to hook it up, which I ordered online. Once I wait for that, the question I have is whether the PS3 will recognize it or not. How ya doing, buddy?

I would say that it would just be easier to take it back to the store and exchange it for an actual USB wireless keyboard. That way you don't have to go through all that work and spend more money for that cable, besides it is their fault for telling you that it was USB so I dought that they'll give you too much trouble about it.
How ya doing, buddy? |
well for the file server you have to enter manually the folder that you want you ps3 to be able to download in it.
(ex: you authorized your c:\ drive, than your ps3 will be able to download anything on the c:\ but if you have a d:\ you will not have the authorization to download anything from it) and yeah all file that the ps3 can't support it seem that you can't still put them on the HDD... but I tried the converter and it work perfectly! and the .mp4 when you download them, the ps3 install them directly on the hdd and they automatically go under the video category. I tried to convert a movie in .avi and the quality was still perfect! (well at least on my normal TV, I'm not sure how it will look on a HDTV XD) only problem is some .wmv can't be converted and it's annoying me a little because there was some video that I wanted to put on my ps3 XD What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Okay, I see now. First you convert the video with Videora, then you use File Server to download that video to your PS3 (the HD will only save formats it currently supports).
I managed to pull this off, although I do see some compression on the videos. I believe I have to configure the settings (does higher bitrate=less compression?). Spoiler:
Can anyone tell me which settings to configure for maximum quality? FELIPE NO |
Anything MPEG-4 AVC, basically. You'll have to experiment with different resolutions and bitrates, though. Higher bitrates mean less compression, of course.
Also, go with AAC for audio, 128kbps should be more than enough for stereo sound. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Ha. Does anybody remember Kill Zone 2? I Just saw this short article over at GameSpot –
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Also, worrying:

I think the episodic content is more like the Half-life 2 episode than the grand turismo micro transaction. They will probably release a full game and some more episode after...(like little sequel or maybe bonus map)
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I was hoping that it would just be, you know, free downloadable maps or something . It's what some developers do for the PSP, anyways...
I thought I read a while ago that the director of Kill Zone 2 was refusing to show anymore footage of the game until it looks exactly like it did in the trailer. I know I'm hanging on a thin thread here, but is it at least even possible? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I was speaking idiomatically. The text is part of the image and the two squires aren't exactly even. |
With $21 MILLION and three times the team of Gurilla + SCEA... and then you add in the unknown limits of the Cell Processor... you can do all the theory you want, but I remember when BLACK was shown for the first time for the PS2 no one thought that it could be realtime on such underpowered hardware... and in the end it was RealTime... so who the hell really knows what Killzone 2 will end up being like, I don't think many games have ever gotten this many resources before to really find out.
For the Record GoW... the best looking game to date was $10 Million budget to put things into perspective. Side NOTE: I remember on GameTrailers Bonus Round that one market analyst said that a game with a $40 Million + budget was just approved like three weeks ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was Killzone 2 at this point... it's just too close to that that it isn't the same game.
