The two kind of compliment each other pretty well, actually. The Colts run defense and special teams are poor, but can still win off of their quarterback. The Bears can hand over the ball on offense 6 or 7 freaking times and still win through the strength of their run defense and special teams. A Super Bowl between the two might just rip the fabric of the universe.

4 Ints by Grossmen, yet the Cardinals allow two fumble return TDs and a punt return TD.

...Come on Leinhart, the game's still four quarters long.

Well, while most people are talking about how colossal a loss this was for the Cardinals (and it was indeed colossal), I'm now seeing this as more of a revelation about the Bears, even in victory. Last night's game showed what happens, and what will happen, when Rex Grossman struggles. Now, I don't think he's gonna be having 6 turnover (4 INTs and 2 fumbles) every week, but Chicago is going to find themselves in trouble against the elite teams if he doesn't play well. It was just one game but it could be a foreshadowing of things to come if they don't make the necessary adjustments.

And damn, 55 yards on 36 rushing attempts for Edgerrin James, and a fumble that changed the tone of the game. "Shut down" isn't even enough to call what happened to him.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I like how at halftime I thought the Bears would come back, and win. This is the Cardinals we are talking about. Too bad my prediction was correct, as I'm a Packer fan.

How long will it be before ESPN cans Joe Theismann. I'm sick of listening to him.

Edge can't work with the Arizona o-line. He may still get around 1000 yards, but he won't be nearly as productive as he was with the Colts (because their o-line has always been quite good).

And Bishop, I have to agree that we already hyped up the Bears offense due to their winning streak - along with them beating a Alexander-less Seattle. Rex Grossmen is good, but he may not be as effective and dependable near the end of the season into the post-season. Arizona doesn't have a "shut-down" defense, so I was quite surprised with the result as Seattle did very poorly and their defense is thought to be pretty good. Still, with six turnovers, Grossmen really didn't allow the offense to do much as even Thomas Jones had only 39 yards rushing and he was projected to run up and down Arizona's defense.

Looks like Lovie Smith will be reviewing what went wrong as they head into their bye week.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Did anybody see Denny Green's after-game conference? Bleepfest. He was understandably not happy. Arizona clearly could have and should have won that game, but they choked.

Chicago needs to get their act together. Sure it's the first time they're 6-0 in 20 years, but there's still 10 more games for them to play.

Wow, I had no idea that Arizona's rushing attack was THAT piss pour. At this rate, the road to James rushing for 1,000 yards is going to be a loooooooong one.

Yeah, you're right. It's not the games in Sept. and Oct. that matter, it's the games in Dec. and Jan. that do. Just ask the '05-'06 Colts about that one. Like I said, Grossman's stuggles last night may be a sign of things to come or it might just have been a one-time deal. Either way, in my opinon, I don't think he'll be able to keep playing at this high of a level and Chicago definitely isn't going to end the season undefeated.

Yeah, I saw it. I'd be hella pissed off if I were him too. By all accounts, his team should be at least in the 4-2/3-3 area right now, but the reality is that they're 1-5. They've had sizeable leads in their 3 last games and they've lost two of them because of missed field goals. Maybe some of it can be put in Green's lap but most of it is becacus of players not executing.

Leinart did his job on that last drive though. He got them in a position to win the game (yeah, he did struggle mightily in the 2nd half). Down the road, I think he'll turn this team around.

No, that was just Edge, who is pretty much their entire rushing attack, but Arizona's rushing attack total is worse:

Yeah...Coach Green will be seeking some O-Linemen this offseason (or by the trade deadline, whenever that is - today, maybe?) because they pretty much have legitimate starters in the rest of the offense.

Interesting day of football so far. Tampa Bay over Philedelphia, 7 to 0. They forced the number one offense in the league to give up 3 turnovers, one resulted in a TD.

And Michael Vick finally threw his first 3 TD game of his (pro?) career, and it's only the first half.

Ronde Barber is player of the week on defense, 6 tackles and two INTs which were brought back for TDs.

And holy shit 62 yards, 'sup Matt Bryant.

And Vick and the Falcons won in OT, 41 - 38; 4 TDs for Vick.

Some great games today, I must say (San Diego and Kansas City, being one of them).

E: Wanna see a Donovan McNabb turn into an ice sculpture? Check it out! http://youtube.com/watch?v=3vnNdsQRMWs
That image of McNabb and Reid will forever be etched into my mind. I do, however, love the fact that I listened to the radio during that kick and heard Gene Deckerhoff and Hardy Nickerson go completely insane.

Holy
fucking
shit.

I was still in a complete state of shock after he made it. When Westbrooke broke 5 tackles and ran 50 yards I was cussing up a storm. My brother said he heard me from the sidewalk outside our house. Then, by some dumb-luck miracle, Matt Bryant makes the kick off his life and I lose my head; Jumping up and down and screaming at the top of my lungs "NO WAY, NO FUCKING WAY!"

What a goddamn game. Blow a 17 point lead then just by the hair on your ass walk away with a win.

That was a crazy game. 3rd loss this season that the Eagles handed to the other team on a silver platter. We need to cut down on the damn mistakes.

Indeed. The Eagles outplayed us. The obvious defining factor is that McNabb thought Ronde Barber was playing for Philly for some odd reason. 4 turnovers vs. 0 turnovers. Great game all-around. It was interesting (and for Bucs fans, stomach-churning), however, to see that whole game change in the matter of about 17 minutes.

The Eagles usually don't play stupid like this, but for whatever reason we are this season.

Giants loss - Trent Cole kicks McKenzie in the crotch. 15 yard penalty, Jay Feely gets his FG moved 15 yards closer.

Saints loss - Tie ball game. Eagles stop Saints on a sack, which would result in a punt and Eagles getting the ball around 3:30-4min left. 12 men on the field. The 12th man(Omar Gaither) wasn't even near the sack and him being off the field would've resulted in a sack anyway. Saints have a 3rd and 5 instead of 4th and 15 and pick it up to win the game.

Bucs loss - McNabb throws a stupid pass to LJ Smith at the end of the half instead of throwing it out of the end zone and settling for a FG. Then Jerome McDougle kicks a penalty flag to give the Bucs 30 frickin total yards up the field.

It can make you pull your frickin hair out.

This pertains to Madden NFL 2007 rather than just NFL discussion, but I'd like to just show it to everyone, because I laughed my ass off on this one.

Re: Being the worst rated player on Madden ‘07

Hi, John, my name is Ethan Albright. I play line for the Washington Redskins. You probably already knew that, so I’ll continue. I am writing in regards to the overall player rating of 53 that I have received in Madden NFL Football 2007. I feel that this is fucking bullshit and you should kiss my mother-fucking ass. Ahmed Carroll was rated a 78 and the Packers just cut his ass on a Tuesday morning after his performance in a Monday night game. That is pretty terrible. The worst part is that his overall rating was sniffing 80.

You know what, John? Two can play this game. I rate you a fucking 12. I rate you a fucking 12 in Ethan Albright Football 2000-ever… except for in the category of ball-licking. That is where I will spot you a 98 rating. You will receive this score because I will never give your blubbery ass a 99 in any category. Take that, pencil-dick. Go do Al Micheals or something. Boom.

It’s also pretty wonderful that my awareness rating was 59. You make it sound like I wake up in the morning, helplessly shit and piss myself, then lose three of my teeth before I discover that I am trying to eat a rock for breakfast. Fuck, John, I understand you saying that I am slow and lacking athleticism, but a rating like this pretty much labels me as retarded. Rod “He Hate Me” Smart has a 52 in this category. Electronic Arts is saying that seven rating points separate me and the breathing embodiment of the perfect oxymoron. Rod Smart struggled to arrange words in sentence form. Cave men had better hold of the English language. The only actions that separate point values of ignorance at this embarrassing level are things like using your own toothbrush to wipe your ass. I basically edged out Rod by my lack of shit teeth. If I take a night school class, could you bump me up to a 60?

I guess I just can’t fathom the fact that I am the absolute worst player rated out of the entire NFL. Fuck, man, there are some shitty guys out there. Amongst everyone, I was rated the absolute worst.

I have received the impression that you feel that I am lacking in the agility category. I should consider a walk through my living room where I don’t crash through a wall or kick over furniture a resounding success. My agility rating on your game is 33. It makes it sound like I just topple over if I start walking too fast. Ted Washington is rated a 40 in agility. He is listed at 365 pounds. If Ted Washington tied a white lady up and made her wear a metal bikini, he’d look just like Jabba the Hut.

John, you are such a fucking dick. I also noticed that my kick return rating was a 0. I was rated a fucking zero? So you feel that I shouldn’t even receive a 10, or even a 5? You are pretty much saying that I couldn’t even fall forward on a ball kicked in my direction. I would just stand there and let the ball bounce off of my fucking face. Fuck that, John, I returned an onside kick 6 yards in 2002. You should have just slapped a - 4 on me and had the EA staff ambush me with paintball guns.

Finally, I would like to comment on an unlikely topic, my pass coverage ratings. I see that I am a better at man-to-man coverage (31) than zone (21). Fuck me sideways with a lunchbox. Where did these scores even come from? How much time is spent coming up with the pass coverage ratings of offensive lineman? Can I have that job? Let’s see here, I think that Orlando Pace would be slightly better at jumping intermediate routes than Larry Allen. While I’m at it, I can assign the passing ratings for offensive lineman as well. I can use mine as a guide.

I was rated with a throwing power of 17 and accuracy of 16. Orlando Pace has a 22 power and 17 accuracy rating. Did someone at EA really put time into figuring out that Orlando Pace edges out Ethan Albright in both throwing power and accuracy? I will challenge him any day. My horrible passer ratings are of greatest misfortune to my son, Red Beard Jr. The poor boy is not only hideously ugly and covered by freakishly large freckles. He also has to suffer through playing catch with me and my senile-elderly-woman-type passer ratings. A session of tossing the pigskin usually consists of me missing my son by thirty yards in sporadic directions. I led him in front of a fire truck once and my wife kicked my ass. This is because of my 76 toughness rating. Yes, a 76 is far better than the other ratings, but I’m a fucking lineman, damn it. NFL Linemen are considered to be synonymous with toughness. According to your game, I am a retarded, uncoordinated, pussy-ass fuckwad that can’t fall on a kickoff, throw, or spell. I am, however, slightly better at manning up on a receiver than dropping into zone coverage. You lose your mind more and more each year, old man.

Fuck you, John. Please expect to find red pubes in various meals you consume for the rest of your life. If you fuck with Ethan Albright, you call down the thunder.

Rot in Hell,

Ethan Albright
Anyway, we got some big games this week, who do you guys have taking home the wins?

Baltimore/New Orleans
Seattle/KC
Falcons/Bengals
Jacksonville/Philly
Rams/Chargers
Broncos/Colts
Dallas/Carolina

Should be an awesome week in the NFL.

Them Raiders sure are a fearsome team. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've seen a team score 20 points when their quarterback had stats of 5/14 for 51 yards and 1 interception.

On the other hand the Ravens finally showed some offensive production, driving 80 yards down the field to get McNair one of his 3 touchdowns, but as usual our defense provided the padding with two interception returns. Glad to see the Falcons and the Colts win with Manning having an unbelievable game and Vick showing that he can pass too.

Well, I was at work for a good part of the game today. Seems like doing work was a better idea than watching that game. I'm thinking that was the nail on the coffin for the season. I really don't see them getting any better. I do find it odd that this team, for the most part, was the same team that won the super bowl last year. That is a very concerning issue. Steelers also lack depth in their lineup so don't plan them to rebound next year. I hope I'm wrong believe me.

Good thing the Pens are kicking ass right now, maybe that's why I don't care as much about the Steelers this year.

A big part of the problem with the Steelers has to be their attitude. Last year, no one expected us to win the Super Bowl. We were underdogs. We played better as underdogs. Now, though, we think we're the shit for some fucking reason. If Cowher actually gave a shit, he might have set everyone straight, but he really seems to have lost his fire. It's a shame to say, but I wouldn't be sad to see Russ Grimm or Ken Whisenhunt become head coach after this season. "Cowher Power" just ain't getting the job done.
