Ok, I updated the OP with all of Infernal's pics and bizarre comments. Would I be wrong if I said maybe a 56k warning could be put on this thread?

You can say 56k, just make you tell them its worth it. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
GJ Metal.
You might want to better clarify the "whats in the box" section. US has Wii Sports packed in, as well as mini games included with the console. Region-Free Wii Topic: Console Games The Wii will be region-free, or at least it should be. That's the word from Wired News' Joel Johnson, who found Nintendo's VP of marketing Perrin Kaplan at the recent New York City press event and got her to reveal that, like the Nintendo DS, Nintendo's Wii games will work on any console regardless of region. While there may be a region lock that third-party publishers can choose to turn on, Nintendo seems to be setting the standard by making its own first-party games region free. Here's what Joel filed this morning: Wired had the opportunity to sit down after with Nintendo Vice-President of Marketing & Corporate Affairs—not to mention affable conference host—Perrin Kaplan to ask a few questions that weren't addressed in the press conference. • Will the Wii be region-free? Yes. Like the Nintendo DS, the Wii will be able to play games from other regions, such as Japan, without any restriction. Kaplan implied there might be a region lock that publishers would be able to flip on, but it doesn't sound like the first-party titles from Nintendo will be restricted. • Will games downloaded from the Virtual Console store be tied to an account like Xbox Live or a one-time-only download like iTunes? Tied to an account. Kaplan discussed a scenario where a player's Wii was broken or destroyed, but would be able to re-download titles they had previously bought to a new Wii machine. Because my left leg was burning from an accidental Zippo oil spill, I neglected to ask if a user would be able to log into friends' Wiis and play their Virtual Console downloads away from their home machine. • Will Wii users be able to add storage via USB hard drives? No. The Wii's storage will be exclusively via flash memory storage, such as SD memory cards, at least at launch. Kaplan said a hard drive addition could be in the future, but that sounds more like a "Sure, why not?" response than one based in any immediate plans. • How much will Opera cost? Unknown. No price has yet been set for the download-able Opera web browser, but it sounds like it could very well be free, once Nintendo finishes discussions with Opera. The big news from the press conference, besides the price—$250 for the console with one controller and Wii Sports bundled, $40 for additional Wii Remotes and $20 for additional Wii Nunchucks—was the showing of "Wii Channels," an instant-on interface where Wii players will be able to create "Mii" (me) personal avatars that work in supported games; a Wii Shop where Virtual Console games can be purchased for "Wii Points"; and photo, movie, and web browsing. It's a slick little interface, but I continue to question whether users will want to sit in front of a television browsing the web without a keyboard, especially at non-HDTV resolutions. I guess we'll see when the Wii launches in the Americas on November 19th. http://blog.wired.com/games/index.blog?entry_id=1556591 I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but let it be true. I was speaking idiomatically. |

Wow, one evening of news has already exploded into 9 pages! The Wii's utilities and games are looking more impressive by the second.

Guys, I caught some supposed info on Resident Wiivil (Resident Evil Wii). Hopefully we can get some confirmation on this stuff:

Metal Sphere, great work on this thread! I updated the confirmed launch list with what is currently at Wikipedia. Apparently, Metroid Prime 3 is now a 2007 title. This was reported by GoNintendo.com

Well, this is going to take a bit to digest and gather all the facts that have been released today. But here's my opinion on what I've gathered:
The price pretty much sucks. $250 without any games (not that I'd personally care if Wii Sports is packed in or not), given what the system is, is rather high and doesn't exactly push that "susbstantially lower price than our competitors" intention, especially if there are any bundles coming up for the Xbox 360. Also, the fact that many features such as the web browser must be purchased separately also hurts it's "percieved produce value". But honestly, the additional controller prices are just ridiculous. $60 for a complete controller? Metroid Prime 3 I'm disappointed to learn was pushed back to 2007. That was pretty much going to be THE big exclusive first party launch title for the Wii (sorry Twilight Princess, your battered and beaten twin is still being kept on life support on the Gamecube). And I did get a chuckle at delaying the Gamecube Twilight Princess...AGAIN...except now it's coming out after the Wii version even though they already said it would be available the same day. And the removal of DVD playback option. Man, Nintendo must've taken a page from Sony on how to break promises. Now I'm worried that the "hook it up to your monitor" line was a lie as well... Region free is good. I personally won't have much use for it, but it will still be nice for those that import and should the situation ever arise. Also the photo/movie editing/weather channel/local news/etc. features are handy, although not exactly what I'd call critical *waits for Microsoft to follow suit in an Xbox 360 firmware update and for Sony to quickly slap it onto the PS3*. Most of the games however look quirky, simplistic, and relatively inconciquencial, with only a few standing out as being more than your typical impulse arcade game. The majority of the "serious" games probably won't come out for a year or two, when developers figure out how to use the controller efficiently. Resident Evil Wii sounds kinda cool. Sounds more like a "Resident Evil Survivor with RE4 controls", but that could be a good thing in this case. Except I was REALLY hoping it was actually going to be the telling of the fall of Umbrella with all the characters banding together and taking them down, etc. This looks to be more of a "greatest hits" album of Resident Evil scenarios. WTF 9 pages without me
![]() Alright, the price... $250. $250. When I heard the price would be no more than $250, that's exactly what I predicted. I consider $200 to be wishful thinking, though there was a very slight possiblity that it could've happened. Anyone who even remotely believed the $170 rumor is an idiot. Am I happy? Yes. Virtual Console Price. Well, I can see where many of the complaints are coming from, and I doubt I'll be buying many, if any at all, NES games from it. The SNES and N64 prices were a bit more reasonable. I'm not terribly disappointed, but it could be better. So *shrug* November 17th is perhaps the only thing that has disappointed me. This is only a few days after my bro's birthday, and he hates Nintendo so this is going to be very bittersweet. Plus, it's quite a LOT later than what I hoped for. I have patience. I think. Excite Truck has actually always been my most anticipated launch game for Wii ever since I saw the short vid, over Twilight Princess, Red Steel, and even MSAnthology. I'm not excited about the news of it being a launch game (I thought everybody knew that), I'm just glad to see interest upping ![]() Double Post:
Oh, and Controller Price. Okay, this is perhaps my biggest upset. I didn't even know the nunchuck part came seperately ![]() How ya doing, buddy? ![]()

Ooh, RE Wii sounds pretty awesome so far. I never really played much of the Resident Evil series before RE4 because I couldn't stand the controls and a few other aspects, but I loved RE4 (who didn't?). Segments from all four games compiled together with RE4 style controls sounds great to me.

IGN has a roundup on all the .swf videos on the Japanese Wii website:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732689p1.html Great movies, mainly showing off the Wii interface which I love. Also, Gamespot has the confirmed US launch titles: Nintendo Excite Truck The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess Wii Sports (bundled with console) Activision Call of Duty 3 Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Rapala Tournament Fishing Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam World Series of Poker Atlus Trauma Center: Second Opinion EA Madden NFL 07 Need for Speed: Carbon Konami Elebits Ubisoft Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII Far Cry: Vengeance GT Pro Series Monster 4x4 World Circuit Open Season Rayman Raving Rabbids Red Steel Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent -- The rest are apparently "Within Launch Window" titles. So that makes 20 titles on-launch, with a bunch more before the end of the year. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
You don't necessarily need the nunchuck part. Plus you have to realize this controller does have more unique technology than anything else ever. For 2 players, you only need a controller besides a game to already start playing something. Eg.: X-box you need almost $100 on top of the base console price + a game to play; PS3: US $600. US $600. US $600. Etc. The controller price is not ridiculous at all. Anyway, I think there are 4 games that I definitely want at launch. Maybe 5. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Updated, and DAMN, Metroid Prime 3's Expert setting = Godlike.

Regarding the Region-Free (Instantly making Gamecube mod chips obsolete) settings, it was confirmed that the 1st party games were. No word on 3rd party....but one thing's probably going to happen: Naruto imports. Oh yeah.

FUCKIN' FIRE EMBLEM!
Price and launch date = expected, but I'm still happy about it. The biggest surprise out of all this madness is the announcement of First-Party (and possibly Third-Party) region-free games. That means I won't have to wait for Wario Ware and Fire Emblem to be released in the US. Also sort of unexpected was the announcement of a Legend of the River King game for the Wii. The US launch titles look solid, I suppose. Twilight Princess, Trauma Center, and Elebits are probably the ones I'll get on launch. The absence of FF: Crystal Chronicles on the launch list is devastaing, but not unexpected. The same goes for the movement of Super Paper Mario to the Wii. I wasn't too happy about the pricing for the controller + nunchaku. As of right now, the nunchaku isn't a necessary purchase, but I don't want to pay $60 for a clicker and nunchake setup should it become more important for multiplayer gaming. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Wait a minute! Where's Super Monkey Ball? I thought that was a launch title as well! Grrr...
Anyway, has Nintendo stated how much the Opera Browser costs? Also any word on how much a Wii keyboard will cost? I really don't wanna type by pointing and clicking. Or does Wii have a USB port for any ol' keyboard? For the most part, everything's good. And even though I justified a higher price for it last night, $60 for a second complete controller is pretty steep. And you know you're gonna want four thanks to Nintendo's great multiplayer games... Sigh...I guess we couldn't expect them to get everything right. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
If Monkey Ball isn't out at US launch, it should be out in December. Else, you could always import it since it is a JPN launch title.

Secondly, there is rumored to be a game (in Japan) called "My First Wii" that will pack a wiimote in and sell for about $40. Not bad if this is coming to america as well. $250 Wii + $40 "My First Wii" with Wiimote + $20 Nunchuck = 2 complete remotes and 2 multiplayer games for $310 bucks. Not bad at all. BTW: IGN said something about Opera being free for a while or something. This isn't confirmed info, but initially Opera might be a free download. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ~ Ready To Strike ~ :Currently Playing: League Of Legends(PC), Skyrim(PC), Golden Sun: Lost Age(GBA), Twilight Princess(Wii), Portal2(PC), Dragon Warrior II(NES), Metroid Prime 2: Echoes(GC)

I read somewhere that the Web Browser could be downloaded for a mere 2000 Wii points.
My only gripe so far with everything is the dashboard. Everything is cluttered and looks to be a pain to navigate. I was hopeing that the VC games would get their own section which would be tabbed and all the games would be categorized by system. How ya doing, buddy? |
