A verdict is in. ONM gives it an 81%.

They say that this game has some frustrating moments as well as the minigames being too short. This sounds like this could be the legitimately hardest Sonic game ever made. Sonic 2 GG/MS hard.

The only thing that might discount this review is the fact that they gave Red Steel a 91%... but then again they admitted they were blatant dissenters with that score because they actually liked the controls.

We'll see how the game plays out with IGN and GS.

Definately picking this up. It just sounds like minor things detract from the game at first, but become more managable as the game progresses.

I'd say the problems could be ironed out with a sequel!

7.5

Rather high for a 3D Sonic game! Still waiting for more reviews to show up even though I plan on buying it regardless of scores.

I've heard the music is comically bad and there aren't as many open levels to just...finish as there should be (too many objective-based levels) but it looks great. I plan to pick up my copy tomorrow.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sweet. I want to pick it up this week, but Circuit City is giving a $10 gift card with Sonic next week. Maybe I'll wait, so I can save my $10 BB card for something else.

IGN gave it a 6.9

Wow.... If IGN didn't like it, that means it's really good.

^...huh?

Places like 4chan and Gfaqs are flaming it to death for that score. Considering that the main reason the score crashed because it was too hard... huh.

Gamespot gave it a slightly better 7.6.

Quote:
The Good: Nice graphics and great level design; excellent sense of speed; varied challenges keep the game interesting; dozens of multiplayer minigames.
The Bad: Controls can be extremely frustrating.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything over a 5 from those sites(IGNorant and Microspot).

Then again, the more recent Sonic games were broken as hell. I seriously think the only good one was Sonic Adventure 1 regardless of what problems it had. :|

This means I should actually give this one a shot.

How ya doing, buddy?

Wow.... If IGN didn't like it, that means it's really good.
Actually, if I simply ignore the numerical score that IGN gives the game, the review is fairly positive. I would have expected it to get an overall score of somewhere in the 7.5 range after reading the review, instead of the 6.9 it did receive. In the review they say they think it's the best 3d Sonic game to date. If that's true, I will enjoy it. I really enjoyed SA1 and am playing through Heroes even though I'm not "feelin'" it like I did SA1.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've learned not to trust ratings from shit like IGN and Gamespot anymore. What matters is if you play it and if you like it. They give a game a shitty rating, the game turns out to be good, at least it has from my point of view.

I plan on picking up this game at either CC or Wally World tomorrow. Trauma Center is really pissing me off (stupid Deftera!) so I'm gonna hold off on beating that game and work on this one.

I like how none of the reviewers thus far can agree on what is wrong with the game.

This tells me that they're just nitpicking and that it is more than likely an enjoyable game.

I picked it up and played a bit during my lunch break. The game supports 480p and widescreen so it looks nice on my TV. The controls feel a bit weird but I think I can get used to them with more time playing the game. The music makes my ears bleed. It's very, very bad!

Well I got Sonic today and I gotta say I am not dissapointed at all. I really honestly enjoy the game. The graphics are awsome, finally someone is using my Wii the right way The gameplay is great. Finally I feel like I am playing a twitch action 2d game but it is in 3d and looks awsome. Good job Sonic team finally. Yes the music is bad, and I mean bad, but at least its kinda funny. So far the stuff that plays in the levels is not as bad as the menu music.

Really I can honestly say you can throw IGNs reveiw out the window. I would say a 7.5 is more accurate but I would even go as far as giving it an 8.0. THE CONTROL ISSUE IS NOT AS BAD AS THEY SAY IT IS. So far I have had little trouble with the controls. Yes you need to get used to them but literaly it takes one run through the level to get you used to the control scheme. Really, the backing up thing is the only issue so far, but once you get used to it it really posses no problem at all. Surely not enough to knock the score down as far as IGN did.Honestly it hasn't caused me any problems yet except for the initial learning of how to back up. Maybe it will piss me off later, who knows but so far no big deal.

I would suggest that anyone with a Wii at least rent this game because it really is the first true Wii game, you probably won't be dissapointed.

One annoying thing to add: the tutorial is a little longer than it should be but it does at least explain the controls well enough.

well March isn't too far off. I personally think this game is way beter than the first Sonic Adventure game on DC. Sonic adventure = too much wanna be Mario platforming and not enough Sonic. This one is at least all Sonic stuff.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hard is good. I don't know why, but recent games seem to have been designed for pussies - every game I played was god damn easy. Easy as in completable from first game, and barely a challenge in hardest mode. On the Megadrive, heck, back on the C64, games were MUCH harder. Hard as in tear-your-hair-out hard. Hard as in you needed surgical precision for every jump on the later levels. Over the past years, I think the only recent games I found hard were Ikaruga and Halo on legendary mode. A game being insanely hard is not a problem and should not ruin the score; it means that (optimally) you need to LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE FUCKING GAME. Of course, knowing Sonic games, the game may be choke full of camera problems and totally useless controls, and lowering scores for that is entirely justifiable...

*shakes head* Sonic Team, if I don't hear any Crush 40 by the end of this game there will be hell to pay. You'd think they would've learned their lesson last time with the last Sonic game...the main theme sucked. You hear the Crush 40 remix of His World and they did a MUCH better job than those other guys.

If I counted it right, there's 7 levels plus the tutorial...unless when I unlock another level another question mark option comes up. Although there's 7 levels, there sure are a hell of a lot of missions to complete in those levels. There also seems to be some unlockable stuff too.

Right off the bat, hats off to Sonic Team for allowing me to change the voices to Japanese with English subtitles so I don't have to put up with 4Kids.

So far the music is so-so and the story is also so-so. The gameplay, while I'm still trying to master it, is very impressive. I'm not used to having to tilt Sonic left and right while he's running the whole time. It's a little tricky, especially the timing of the homing attacks.

I played a little multiplayer before I called it a day, and decided to go with the one called "Treasure Hunt." Basically it's almost like Sonic Shuffle in a way, except your moves are determined by what you place in a minigame.

I still have my doubts, but I've only played it for a couple of hours though so I can't really say much when I've barely touched up on it.

...wait a second, why are you even still here? You heard the verdict. If Sonic still ain't your cup of tea then dripping sarcasm does nothing more for this thread.

Oh, and evilboris, there aren't any camera problems, and learning the controls is the only real "control problem" of the game.

I've waited to hear a Sonic game described as "hard" without "camera problems and shitty controls" for years now.
