@Forsety
You're right, it does sign you out when playing PS2 games. Or at least the PS3s with the PS2 hardware does because it switches the PS3 hardware off/standby. I'm not sure if the software emulation works the same way however.

@BlueBomber
I was hoping that you were gonna proove me wrong, but I was pretty sure that the auto-on was a 3.75 feature. It sucks to be right sometimes.

Damn. The PS Store's got so many people on it, I can't even get in. Is the Uncharted demo up and running?

Edit: Bah. They're doing maintenance. Bad day to do that, don'tcha think? Anyway, has anyone successfully used the PS3 as a media server using Windows XP? I downloaded a few different programs that all said they worked, but nothing has. I've heard Windows Media Player 11 will work, but I can't figure out how to do it.

How ya doing, buddy?

"SimpleCenter" works for me on the PS3. You might want to try that, I couldn't get anything else to work right.

Click the arrow tab under library in WMP11 and there should be a media sharing option. Check the "allow new hardware" box and you should be set.

While music and images work without a hitch. Video remains a problem for myself aswell.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I feel kinda dumb now. Never noticed the "Media Sharing" option under Library. Thanks Slayer!

Does SimpleCenter stream videos pretty well? I doubt it's a feature I'd ever use, but still.

Well when they start showing up on the net, feel free to do so. I would actually like that.

@SouthJag
No problem. I know I spent some time trying to find that poorly placed feature. Everyone was talking about their problems with it and I couldn't find it at the time, lol.

There's an article about creating custom themes on Engadget, but they link you to this guy's blog. He tells you how to do it, but I tried to run the compiler and it failed.

Hopefully someone'll get it to work and make an awesome theme.

Of course I have the best idea for a theme ever. All icons replaced with squadron insignias from Ace Combat series.

Here comes the pose.

This is just bullshit, apparently dust voids your console's warrantly now. In Sony's eyes anyway. Now I gotta be even more anal about keeping my console clean (already got linen covering it, when not in operation obivously, to keep the cat hair out).

This is quite interesting

Sony: Dust Voids PS3 Warranty
Having worked at a PC repair business before I can tell you that dust voids your warranty on every component in your PC. Keeping your system clean is your responsibility, not the responsibility of the manufacturer.

PCs are a different beast because they're made to be opened and tinkered with. Unless you were silly enough to buy a premade machine. Consoles operate on unique pieces of hardware, and it's easier to void warranty.

I have trouble believing that this story was not embellished or exaggerated at any point along the way, though.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Just a small question, Is the ps3 more "sensitive" to dust than the ps2?

I'm asking because in my room there is a weird dust problem... no idea where it comes, but it's always there.

@Skexis
Actually you are able to open the PS3's lid without voiding your warrenty, the void sticker is on the seal plate inside now, so keeping it clean is the customer's responsability.

As for the dust voids the warrenty dispute itself, it's hard to know if Sony is right or wrong without seeing pictures of what the dispute is over.

UPDATE!
"
Ive: I'm calling just to pretty much clarify the PS3's warranty, if there's any clause in the warranty that makes it so that if the PS3 is too dusty that the warranty is void.
CSR: No.

Ive: No?

CSR: No. The only way that it, um, voided is if it was neglected, um, abused, dropped or anything like, modificated like if you opened it up, modification, if you didn't have your receipt, um, any power failures like mother nature or anything like that then that actually does void the warranty. Other than that any defective PS3s or anything like that is still, um, still under the warranty."

Ive spoke to several CSRs, each of whom took a similar position until they read the account notes. Apparently, a tech determined that the fearsome dust constituted neglect and presented a threat to his health.

To his credit, the CSR handled a ridiculous situation fairly well.

Sony CSR: What? No! Dust Doesn't Void Your PS3 Warranty!

Good luck vacuum-ing your little electronic devices~

Meh, after a second thought I think it's like Skexis said, it's just exaggerated.

And Slayer X, I'm quiet interested in what you are saying... do you know a site with a decent guide to open the ps3? (My googling skills are royally failing tonight)

This is more then you need. You can go up to image step 6. Anything beyond that you risk damaging your system and voiding your warrenty.

Um, did anyone else's PS3 get bricked after playing the Uncharted demo/Installing the 2.00 update? I did both earlier today and after trying to play Heavenly Sword a few minutes ago I was told the game data was corrupt and I would have to delete it. There was no Game Data so I reset the console only to see that the hard disk's file system is corrupt (=D) and whenever I try to restore it I am given the same error message over and over, so basically I am out of a PS3 at the moment.

I don't know what caused the error (2.00, Uncharted or Heavenly Sword, or just a random fuckup) but since I assume that all of you downloaded the 2.00 update that you be careful.

I haven't had that problem. The only thing I've encountered is the Timeshift demo freezing my PS3 tot he point where I have to hard-reset it using the power button on the back. I've played the Uncharted demo several times without any problems.
