It's like someone put Tidus into Fayt's outfit. Best character design ever.

What a wasted effort on Microsoft's part. Why don't they make steps to acquire Final Fantasy if they are truly serious about the Japanese market.

A Microsoft exclusive of SO4 is just going to hurt the future of the series due to bad sales and a multiplatform release is going to accomplish nothing as the Japanese just wait out for the PS3 release.

I wouldn't be so bitter if it wasn't so obvious that this is nothing but the result of a money exchange rather than a decision based on the merits of the system.
Because the 360 clearly is less good at running JRPGs than the PS3. Right.

Oh yeah, its sure is Microsoft's fault that the Japanese have such a different culture of gaming and they should have the money and means to cater to every demographic possible. (sarcasm)

I bet even if they somehow aquire some FF titles, the JP players will still flock to the PS3 cause thats just how they are. I mean, my Chinese family will more likely flock to a Chinese resturant than a Western one for a reason ya know, no matter how many good Western Resturant choices there are avalaible. Its called cultural differences, and sometimes no amount of games exclusives or marketing can change that. And now that MGS 4 is out, there's gonna be even more JP players with a PS3 than a 360.

And I think FF is getting overated anyway. I like that at the very least, the 360 is getting various of RPG titles already be it JRPGS like Lost Oddesey or Western ones like Mass Effect, and most of them have release dates or know what year its planned for, where as the PS3 has how many that actually have a release date? Seems like all the titles I can think at the top of my head are all TBA, like FF13 and VS 13, White Knight etc. And Eternal Sonata PS3 is apparently JP only so far. We don't even know what year those titles are coming out, at least SO4 stated its 2009, which means they have a time frame of development time somewhat planned.

But back to SO4, I've never really played the series, but I have heard good things about it, and this game looks beautiful graphically so far, so this could be my way to get into the series. The main character's design sucks, but what's to expect from the land of pretty feminine boys? I like the girl's outfit though, wish I can have that outfit for my character in PSU.

How ya doing, buddy?

after playing star ocean 3 I kinda gave up on the series. Don't get me wrong, it was a very nice game that fulfilled every button smashers dream but when I reached the second disc and heard what the story had turned into. . . . "blah" is all I have to say.

This new one looks mighty incredible though, it's going to be hard not to play, so much that I might have to play it o-0...
As for the main character design, it doesn't look so bad as far as the clothing goes. Almost like a more graphical intense phantasy star but for the facial features I would have to guess that it had more of an influence from the square part but I would imagine that enix would have given in to the girlish boys anyway.
Unless of course the end of the game the main character is revealed to actually be a girl who start a new lesbian life with the love interest of the story
Here's to hoping that's one of the endings

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The gameplay was nice. Ask anyone who made it most of the way through the story to discover the worst plot twist in the HISTORY of gaming...

Spoiler:
Essentially discarding any sort of original storytelling up to that point, the story suddenly goes "Oops, you were in the Matrix this whole time" and stops making sense.

And that's about 40+ hours into the game. SUCH a pissoff.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh believe me, my fiance told me alot of that plot twist, since I don't care for spoilers in most things. That's just one of the things that made me think twice about jumping in. If I do end up playing SO3 after SO4 or something, it would probably be for the gameplay only.

OMG not only that but
Spoiler:
it's like they WERE the matrix. The whole damn thing was a game, within a game in which the games people were enjoying watching the characters in the game's game.

The thing that really annoyed me about this is that they find out what they're true world is and then "Oh what! We're all a program for this game?! Okay enough of this we have to find out how to get rid of the virus in our world!"

Seriously, talk about excepting things as they are. Nobody had a single breakdown then and there.

The plot twist was bad but it didn't really ruin SO3 for me-- it was just when you look at it from the sense that this means the twist applies to SO1 and 2 too, that it really starts to be lame.

Also agree'in they didn't even react slightly realistically to it at all which made it all the more worse.

It isn't like SO1 (Star Trek ripoff to the max) or SO2 had stellar plots either but SO3 surely took it to the next level of gay. Hopefully they back down to SO1 and 2 gayity levels and we can all be happy.

Like Mo0 said, the plot twist of SO3 and the resulting apathy in it all was ughmode, especially the twist (aka they were late years ago).

Also love the futuristic theme of SO4 and you find out the characters still uses bows instead of pistols (can swords be lightsabers though).

EDIT: Trailer up on Live marketplace for SO4. In before bitching.

@Terminous

That comment of yours is really stupid. It's just laughable. Square Enix already stated at the moment that S.O 4 would be coming exclusively to the 360. So I'd say, why not let them? And besides you really don't know that for sure.

@Infernal Monkey (from page 6)
Yes, it was just announced that FFXIII is headed to the 360.

Japan = Getting the game on PS3

Man, Star Ocean 1-4 all available on systems I own? FANTASTIC!

Since I never technically played SO3 (Was sitting beside someone else playing through it) I may just pick that up when I get 1 & 2 for the PSP. I was really hoping they would come stateside and I'm glad there's been a confirmation now.

I wonder though, are they gonna pretend the ending to SO3 never happened in SO4?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

From what I understand, SO4 seem to be a prequel to the series or something like that.

That trailer makes the game look absolutely GORGEOUS. If they can keep the framerate steady, I will drool all OVER that game.

Incidentally, I watched the Infinite Undiscovery trailer right after watching this one... the games gameplay-wise look pretty similar, but it's shocking how washed out IU's textures look compared to SO4's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't IU announced for 360 before SO4 was? It's almost like IU was "Oh, let's give them something KIND OF like Star Ocean" before deciding to just bring over Star Ocean.

I was speaking idiomatically.

IU was announced right after VP2 was released. Back then Microsoft was officially doing publishing (Squre Enix jumped in a year later). IU uses a seamless world including battles and close behind camera viewpoint, while SO4 is doing the classic JRPG separation between overworld (with a more zoomed out bird's viewpoint) and battle screens. Of course SO4 should be able to have better graphics that way, and IU looks nothing like SO gameplay wise.

Yes, the game takes place in SO SD calendar 0010. Which was like post-World War III. As compared to previous titles. This actually takes place in our solar system. Or rather, it's a more fictional version of our solar system.

I don't see it being mentioned here, so I wonder if anyone knows that SO is coming Oct 21st 08 and SO2 is coming Jan 6th 09.

The only game I've played in SO3 and it sucked, but everyone says SO and SO2 are infinitely better so I'm looking forward to both.

I'm going to Japan in November (hopefully) so I decided to just get one game between now and Nov and can't decide between Sims 2 Apt Life, SO and the ToS sequel. The advantage of getting SO is that I can actually play it on the trip. Hmmm...

Jam it back in, in the dark.

SO4 demo gameplay camcorder footage

TGS 2008: Star Ocean The Last Hope Gameplay Video - TGS 2008 - Forever Fantasy

Framerate and graphics look SO GOOD! I wonder if there would be a optional HD installation? I mean the battle footage is probably running at 60FPS! I am not sure if I have see that many 360 titles that can run at such a high framerate with so many shiny effects.

Battle system also looks hectic and engaging.

Also, this game has the best rendered green pastures I've seen so far. Its at the end of the video.

Apperently that's just a rumor made by Finaland but turned out to be false since there was no actual announcement at TGS and on the website it still says its only for 360. Although, much like Eternal Sonata I'd expect to see this and Infinite Indiscovery make their way onto the PS3 about a year after each release.
