The map looks good. Easy to read, with all of the necessary information.

Last night I finished The Pooka Prince and this morning I've started on Fairy Land.

More plot stuff:
I very much enjoyed Cornelius' story. It was kind of heartwarming to see all of the trails and suffering he went through for Velvet's sake, and that she still accepted him even as a homeless Pooka.

Throughout the book there was more foreboding of the oncoming apocalypse. The story was far less political than Valkyrie, and it showed a more "commoner" view of the world.

In Fairy Land I've started playing as Mercedes, and it looks like it's going to be the view of the Cauldron War from the other side, as well as some political strife as Melvin attempts to take over the fairy kingdom.

Chapter 4, Act 3; The Pooka Prince.

Quite frankly, I've grasped the battle, item and the recipe systems. I found myself often repeating past stages to move forward (as well as buy items that will help me in my next dungeon).

I'm only on Valkyrie: Chapter 3, but I've already mastered Gwen's moves and the Item, Food and Alchemy systems are so broken once you figure out how they work. They probably will put off a lot of people because "what the fuck is this >=0" type of initial response and what have you, but if you take the time to dabble and experiment you can have some lol times and create some powerful stuff.

Hard mode feels like Normal mode now, except with half the phozons and I have to hit things a few more times before they drop dead.

I was hoping I would create a material(10) with something like... a food item and I'd expect something good, but sometimes I end up with just a material(11) or even worse, a material(0)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

You can only create with what you know.

Also it needs to be a Mandragora I believe, can't use anything else to get something.

Incase nobody has figured it out yet:

Phozon EXP = Chapter x 10. So if you are on chapter one you will get 10 EXP per Phozon. Spirit Stone increases this value by 10%. If you're going to Phozon Grind the easiest way is to find a stage with two minibosses (not that hard when you get to the end of any person's story). Kill, Absorb (w/ Spirit Stone), get your Psypher Gauge to the maximum value it can go (you will probably have to kill many more things for that), Phozon Release -> Absorb -> Phozon Release -> Absorb. Repeat until you run out of Phozons entirely. Then leave the place and do it all over again.

I guess I should add that when you revisit a stage it is based on the chapter it was. So even if you are on Epilogue if you go to a place that was like Chapter 2 or 3, you will only get 20 or 30 EXP at that stage. That's because that area is designated as a Chapter.

I'm only on The Pooka Prince, Chapter 3, but I've already found an easy way to make Material (90):

M0 + Mulberry = M5 (Fruit has a value of 5. 0+5 = 5)
M5 + Any seed = M6 (Seeds have a value of 1. 5+1 = 6)
M0 + 3 Mulberries = M15 (5+5+5 = 15)
M6 + M15 = M90. (They multiply. 6 * 15 = 90)
M90 + Milk = Yogurt (because Yogurt is created with an even value, and the 0 in 90 is an even value since Alchemy only pays attention to the final digit).

Creating the Yogurt with an M90 will probably release like 30 or so Phozons. Considering how easy it is to obtain Mulberries and Milk, you can use this to get some cheap Phozons. Also having yogurt is never a bad thing, you get better exp from food you eat in battle and it's required in some of the greatest recipes in the game. (greatest as in +MAX HP wise for ease of creation, may not be the best HP EXP wise).

I FINALLY beat the most annoying boss in the game thus far, the chapter 4 boss in Mercedes' story.

What you're looking forward to:
A powered up mage enemy, three slime monsters, two floating eye monsters, and two minibosses was not a very fun fight.

Now I can finally continue.

I picked up the game on Thursday. Wanted to do so on Wednesday when it arrived but alas, I had a double shift that day. And my luck continued when I got home and discovered that my memory card was out of memory. Still I decided to give it a try and I like the art style to it. Sunday I picked up a new memory card and I'm planning on giving the game a real go tomorrow. Well later today I guess now.

Just got it today. Up to Gwendolyn Chater 4 Act 3.

This game is beautiful. The story is interesting and emotional. The item management did get on my nerves a bit but I've got a few extra 5 slot bags now so that's helping. I love growing sheep. I laughed when I saw you can even throw the bone at something after your done eating it.

I have completed Valkyrie (a second time, wanted to see something), The Pooka Prince, Fairy Land, The Black Sword, and I am now on Fate.

Everything in the story is starting to become crystal clear now. I have no complaints with anything, as everything I was bothered by or questioned was answered later on. The way the story is set up is rather interesting to say the least.

Anyone who thought Fairy Land Chapter 4 Act 5 was annoying, will completely hate The Black Sword Chapter 6 Act 5.

What to not look forward to:
Another of the Three Wise Men (Skuldi), two or three Revenants (from Winterhorn), ooze slimes, and of course eyeballs.

Velvet is so cheap, like Mercedes. Unfortunately being so cheap comes with a drawback... which is easily countered through the Alchemy system. Well infact everything is countered by the Alchemy system =P

I never mentioned it before but I am slightly bothered yet humored at the fact that sheep grow from seeds you plant in the ground. Along with little chicks hatching from a normal looking egg turning into giant mutated chickens that poop eggs.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Black Sword; Chapter 2-1.

And Mercedes may be my shortest run yet. Done in about 6 hours or so. Yeah, yeah, repeated stages and whatnot. Great stint in that is that I shot up from level 4-10 in just one meal. After that, everything was just child's play.

Doing the same for Oswald once I unlock some of the stages.

This game is incredibly hard and I'm obviously doing something wrong. The awfully restrictive item management doesn't help, either. I really want to continue playing, but it feels like I'm stranded without some expert advice.

I'm currently unable to beat the Forest Witch (second boss for Gwendolyn). I tried it countless times already but don't even feel like having a chance. Sometimes I manage to take away half her HP, but then she totally crushes me with her fire and poison spells. I've got enough antidotes, but using any item renders you totally defenseless in that battle.

The whole concept of growing plants and fruits and mixing stuff seems really deep, but there's only so much information I'm able to make use of in the game at one time. Furthermore, I'm constantly out of item space and still have no idea what's worth keeping. I guess this is a major detriment to my progress and don't know how to avoid being stuck with nothing but useless junk.

I figured replaying the first chapter was going to help me stock up on some useful healing items, but then I noticed that there seems to be no option to replay an already completed chapter/dungeon. If this turns out to be the case, I can't help but say I'm stuck with no other option than to restart the game all over from the beginning.

Someone please help me out of this dilemma and show me how to enjoy this game without wading through tons of FAQs and Walkthroughs.

How ya doing, buddy?

There is an option to replay completed chapters, it's just that you can't go back to the raging battlefield, the forest is the first you can return to.

My suggestion is to restart the forest stage (you'll keep your experience and items) if you're having trouble with the boss. You don't need to start the game from the beginning, the game is challenging, but very generous. You can restart the level as many times as you like, always keeping the experience levels and items, so you're bound to get strong enough eventually.

Get the gem that boosts the EXP you get from absorbing Phozons, defeat all the minibosses and boost up your Psypher as much as you can. Then do it all over again with your new levels if you feel the need.

Grow berries and sheep when you can and plan your HP intake well. Whenever you rise a level, you get full HP, so it's more useful to eat a single Onionne for that last 8-9 points of EXP and get a full HP bar, than waste better healing items, unless of course you need more EXP to gain a level.

Also mix up Painkillers, they're a real lifesaver in boss battles, as well as Napalm. When you need to use healing items, quickly retreat as far away as you can to eat/drink, you usually have enough space to gulp stuff down without getting hit.

After that it's just about dodging and timing.

As for the item limit, I ranted about it here a bit back, but fortunately you get to buy extra bags in later chapters so it no longer becomes a problem.

Due to story related business, all of the characters have at least two stages out of the seven in their story that they are not allowed to return to. Unfortunately you do not really know what stages these are until you are finished with them on that character.

If you find yourself having trouble in a stage you can always use the Home feature to return to base and then play the stage over again. The game does not penalize you for doing so, and it can only make you stronger since you get to restart with everything you had before you left the map (Psypher levels, Psypher gauge, HP levels, items, money).

I know that Gwendolyn and Cornelius have a block ability, but really I wouldn't get too used to it. They are the only characters that can actually block and while it is a nice feature, you are better off dodging the attack (or reflecting it back if it is possible).

In Chapter 2 of Gwendolyn's story you should find a scroll containing the formula for Alchemy Mix P (Painkiller). Like Qwarky mentioned, painkillers are really good. So many boss battles in the game become much less stressful when you aren't getting knocked on your ass in one hit. Carroteers and Cubsbanes might be rare in that area, but they are worth using to create painkillers. Just about every item that is created through Alchemy works in threes, so there is no real need to go overboard with item making.

Also if you are really having trouble: For that battle (and others similar to it), plant a Rosemile. They will stop to absorb the Phozons into their Psypher. You can use the opportunity to get free hits in or recover.

As far as equipment is concerned. Aside from the necessary charms to prevent certain things (such as Fireproof Charm to prevent the constant burn of the volcano and flame status), a Power Stone and Spirit Stone should be all you really need. The +%ATK Bangles are really nice later on though. Especially if you combine them with Painkiller and Unlimited Power (which isn't unlimited, your POW is just recovering at an absurd rate)

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

So yes, I've encountered Lacerta's hardest run yet. I had qualms too but I simply did was this.

Spoiler:
I never let Skuldi away from my sight. Of course though, Revenants will appear when you move. My luck with Skuldi was when I stuck close to him (within the "square") and struck him when he summoned the swords on which I can reflect back at him (Have to see his fingers go red. Sometimes fireballs come out though. In that case, just hack him and he'll disappear. Same with other-colored fingers which he can summon a lot of bad stuff) and then just strike him back.

Now at the epilogue of the Black Sword; can't wait for the final character. Also rose above Mercedes' power-levelling. Oswald eating a Salmon Escabeche and bam! 9 levels up. 4-13.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I have beaten Fate, and unlocked:

Book Title + Info:
Armageddon

This is the final stretch of the game, basically the prophecies begin to happen and the Armageddon is starting. TONS of tragedies//plot and probably one of the most epic setups for the final battles ever. Before you open the book it states that you will have to use all five characters once, and their items and stats are based on what you left them at when you beat their story. So yeah, if you finished with 0 Psypher, you're starting the final battle with 0 Psypher. The game actually recommends that you replay and stock up, big time.

I thought Black Sword Act 6 Chapter 5 was bad, but that is nothing compared to Fate Chapter 6 Act 5.

Yet again, what not to look forward to:

Yet another of the Three Wise Men (Beldor) + Belial. Yes, two bosses, at once.

Beldor can poop out eyeballs and slimes of course like all the other mages, and Belial pretty much exists to ruin your life.

As of right now I am listening to the advice from the sixth book and I'm grinding everyone to at least some decent Psypher and HP levels, well HP levels don't really matter as much as the HP does. Also taking the time to give everyone a total of 6 large bags, a entire row of Elixirs (I tried the first fight for fun, Healing Tonics will not suffice), an entire row of Painkillers, some Unlimited Power, and the proper equipments (Jupiter Bangle, Power Stone, Detox Charm, Fireproof Charm, Iceproof Charm, etc). I may dabble with Fire/Ice Spirits.

By this point you should have every single thing in the Text Archive unlocked. Some of the recipes will require you making the one above it multiple times until they come up with a variation.

I'm also going to just only bother with Yogurt Fruit Mousse. 3300 HP EXP and +24 HP. All you need is 1 Yogurt, 1 Egg, and 1 Mulberry, along with an Ariel Coin. 1 Egg can create endless eggs if you do it right, Yogurt you can just spend the cash for Milk then make it (or find a area that has Milk as a drop and farm it that way... but buying is usually faster), and if you can't find a Mulberry Seed to produce a Mulberry I don't even know what game you are playing.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Just got this game yesterday.

Actually, let me clarify a bit...

I just offloaded Ephemeral Fantasia, along with Evergrace and Forever Kingdom, and used the trade-in value to get this game yesterday. Suh-weeeet.

Also nabbed Valkyrie Profile 2, Final Fantasy 12 (wait, wait, I can explain) at a grand total of about 45% off an already-lowered list price, and Rogue Galaxy, along with Odin Sphere.

I have yet to pop any of them in and play yet, as my DS beckoned to me from its perch atop my other computer and my willpower was insufficient to resist the call of Portrait of Ruin, but...TONIGHT, WE DINE IN ERION!
