[PC] What is your Favorite PC game EVER?

Chip's Challenge.

An old game, I know. But it still enchants me until now. A very simple yet brainstorming game.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

My all time favorite is Starcraft followed by Counter-Strike, Diablo 2, and UT 2004. I just started playing SC again this week and it's still just as fun as it always was.

X-Wing the original DOS, non-Tie Fighter, non Windows 95, 3D Graphics support or multiplayer.
I must have logged about 1000 hours flight time. The joystick plastic eventually moulded into the shape of my hand.
I learned how to work a PC trying to install it, getting it to work and cheat (Ahem!)
The Collectors Edition CD is permanently attached to a frame on the wall of my office after being scratched from use.

Oh and that was me that blew up the death star!

Sim City 4 and AOE II. I've spent hours at a time going through both of those games, and I still play them on a regular basis.

My favorite is definitely American McGee's Alice. I love that game. ;d I even collect the figurines from it. I remember I saw it in stores when it was first released and wanted it,but didn't actually get it till a few years later. I haven't played through it nearly enough though.

Second would have to be Half Life and Half Life 2. Very good games.

UFO - Enemy Unknown

A really old DOS game that I once bought in a sale bin. These were the days of huge PC boxes. I still have it somewhere. I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome it was. You had so much freedom. You could choose your soldiers, equip them with what you want, research and develop new weapons and equipment that you choose. Try to figure out the enemies equipment and weapons. Choose where to deploy your soldiers. Man this game was so awesome.

Deus Ex

Another gem of a game. The amount of freedom and choices you get is insane. You can choose to go the stealth approach, go in guns blazing. You can go underground, or use the guarded elevator, you can kill that smelly hobo, or you can listen to his story. I must have played this game at least 10 times, and every time I discover something new.

Command & Conquer

Now who doesn't remember this game? I know dune is the real "mother" of RTS games, but I feel it's this game what made RTS games what it is today. I replayed it a week ago, in anticipation for C&C3, and the memories came back alright. GDI vs NOD, Kane!, Frank Klepacki. Aye this game needs no explanation.

Outcast

I wouldn't be surprised if many of you never even heard of this game. It was never really that popular, and I'm sure outside of the benelux nobody ever heard of it, but it's one hell of a game. Back then the graphics were "jesus!" but it was the gameplay which got me. It was a really nice story about this alternate universe where you end up in, and you get a lot of freedom to discover the area, and there's so many quests to do and people to talk to.

I feel they are all worth the title. I'm not gonna choose just one.

This will really date me, but I love the original Myst! Yeah, I played computer games when there were no graphics. Anyone else ever own a Radio Shack TRS-80?

The Freespace series, mostly Freespace 1 though.

The atmosphere was top notch and it had some of the most epic battles I've played in games. Many a hour wasted on the series.

Starcraft
Of course there were plenty of RTS titles prior to SC, but this has been my reigning favorite in the genre. It was just so much fun to play, and the online 'Use Map Settings' add-ons to the game were fantastic (for the most part). Even 10 years later, I have no problems picking it up and playing a quick match against the computer in big game hunters.

Civilization 2
Though I have loved the installments of 3 and 4 in this series to be just as pleasing, this one has a special place for me. It was the first one I played in the series (I have, however, since revisited the original), and it got me addicted about 5 minutes into it. It was the epitome of awesomeness at the time, and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series, though I'm still busy with 4.

Diablo
Another Blizzard game makes it here you say? Diablo was the driving force that got me into MMO/Dungeon Crawler types of games. It was so simple, yet you just...couldn't...put...it...down. It was as fun and rewarding as it was addictive (thats assuming you played with your friends). Alas though, I haven't picked it up in ages.

The Elder Scrolls III : Morrowind
I actually got this after hearing some good reviews from my friends around the neighborhood. Needless to say, I was happy I picked it up. It was and still is a very deep experience in the RPG genre that you can spend hundreds of hours with.

SimCity
Goddamn, I remember playing this on my old P.O.S. Windows 95 computer. Such a great experience, and everyone has played one SimCity at one point in their lives. I never have gotten to the 1 million mark, anyone know how to?

I'm alredy looking frward for Starcraft 2.

I also adore the C&C-Series and startet to play Tiberian Dawn again...man...this brings old memorys back.

Between these 3 (not much of an MMORPG fan, don't like P2P stuff):

Classic Doom (awesome when it came out back in the day and I still love playing it since the episode 1 shareware came out).
Half-Life series (constantly play these games even if I have beaten them a few times each. Can't wait for Episode Two)
Counter-Strike Source (I love the mods they have for the game, especially GunGame, play that a lot, but also just like playing the usual game online as well)

Dugeon seige
Very addictable but quite down (for me) in the second one.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Dungeon Keeper, anyone? Slapping imps, torturing (and converting) information-divulging heroes, finding weird combinations to cook up new things in the temple, breeding Reapers, feeding chickens to the dungeon denizens et cetera NEVER FELT SO GOOD. I spent countless hours playing that game, and the hours that I didn't, I fantasized about playing it.

I didn't quite enjoy its sequel, DK II, as much as the first one though. Too polished, too slick, and it didn't quite have the bad-ass appeal of its ancestor. Gotta owe it to Peter Molyneux and his Bullfrog (way before Lionhead Studios) for cooking up something that addictive.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Dungeon Siege is a great choice. Holy crap that game is fun, especially with co-op play.

But the original Xwing takes the cake. I remember picking that game up just by seeing it in a Best Buy near its time of release. It was the first good 3D game that graced our family's PC. My dad was so skeptical of what the game showed on the back of the box. He was like, "You can buy it, but don't be surprised if game is not what it looks like n the box." I was a impluse-buying little kid and loved Star Wars and spent saved up money for the game; little did I know how amazing of a game I bought. I brought it home and nearly died when I saw I could go up against Star Destroyers and Tie's and flipping amazingness.

I keep forgetting how awesome that game was, joysticks and all.

The best game ever created for PC gaming is one that few have ever had the chance to enjoy: Grim Fandango

I made a thread for it a long time ago and I'm sure it's buried somewhere but yeah... This game was, by far, one of the reasons why I still believe that games can evoke visceral emotional responses with only the use of sharply-written dialogue, original characters and the oh-so-perfectly-fitting setting. Let's not forget the soundtrack, which I consider to be one of the best (if not THE best) video game soundtracks ever conceived. So many great memories. So many quotable phrases. Only ONE Manny Calavera. <3

The King's Quest games were definitely a staple in my earlier days. But I must say my favorite wasn't V, it was VI. I'll never forget: "Alexander pulls out his magic map!" Such good games.

In terms of games played, I think it's safe to say that I've invested the most hours playing Ultima Online over the years. From when it came out until about 2002, I played UO in various forms, from payservers to free servers that emulaed the old pay servers. The true appeal of UO was that everyone who played was on the same footing, and there weren't advantages to certain classes or characters from the start. Obviously, you had to develop your character as you saw fit. But that's what was great about it -- you were in charge of how your character played, and there was no predetermined method. Also, FULL CORPSE LOOTING RIGHTS. Nothing like playing a game that makes you so tense and adrenaline pumped ... because if you die, all your stuff is going into your opponents bag.

Unfortunately UO really lost a lot of it's lustre when EA took charge of Origin and kicked Lord British off the development team. Ultima Online 2 could have been an EverQuest killer, but EA decided to add all these shitty 3-D (but not quite 3-D) expansions for the current existing UO. Post-Renaissance I had stopped playing on the pay servers and moved over to one of the (then) largest emulated servers, and played there for another year or two before giving up the game in college (because my dorm didn't allow large back-and-forth packet transfers due to filesharing networks... lame).

The only other game I can say I've played near as much as UO is World of Warcraft. While it's an amazing game in it's own right, I think there are a few too many nagging problems that really tarnish an otherwise super-enjoyable game.

The best PC game of all time is without doubt Strike Commander.

I've yet to come across a flight sim that combined accurate flying physics with an actual plot so well as this. The graphics for the time were amazing, the characters were memorable and the flying was realistic but still fun. Nothing else has come close before or since in my opinion.
