I'm enjoying this game to no end. There's a point where this game stands out from others when

Spoiler:
When Susano says he'll destroy the boulder to clear the way out of Kamiki the next day, and you, being Amaterasu, the sun godess, brush a happy little sun *Bob Ross impression*...BAM! IT'S THE NEXT DAY. GET TO WORK!!!

I'm a little over 4 hours into the game, and I'm barely getting to Agata Forest. I can tell this game is going to be deep to almost no end. I suggest people pick this up as soon as possible.

I'm also thoroughly enjoying the game.

Spoiler:
I've gotten up through the Spider Queen boss in the second cursed zone you purify. It was a VERY zelda-esque dungeon, with a lot of focus on simple puzzle solving as opposed to combat. The boss fight was awesome, though. I hope the others are like that.

Me six, seven!

This game is beautiful. I'm personally not into the whole cel shaded thing, and never was, however I still find the gameplay very enjoyable. I'm 1 hour 15 minutes into the game.

A few questions (I haven't bothered going through the instruction book yet, yes I'm a dummy)

Spoiler:

Can you die from drowning in water?

Is there any really reason to use the physical attack on the baddies rather than just slice them up with the brush?

What happens if you bite a person? Do your praise points go down? I haven't tried yet.

Furthermore, whenever Issun orders me to draw something, I usually try to do it in the most whackiest way.

Spoiler:
For example, I drew the sun as a lopsided oval with jagged lines, but it still worked! I just do this to piss him off whenever

Also, for those of you who didn't know already, I have two powers so far, the sword slash and the sun power. For the sword slash, I love cutting up even the most mundane of things. Whenever you hear a funny "ploump" sound, it usually means that the fallen tree, rice stalk, or rock has dropped some valuable stuffs!

If I remember seeing in a vid correctly:

Spoiler:
Couldn't Ammy use the actual sword Tsukuyomi (Nagi's sword) as an actual weapon?

Spatula:

Spoiler:

I don't know about dying from being in the water, I was never in water long enough.

Some baddies, later on, actually block the Power Slash with their instruments--at my point in the game, one enemy has a taiko, another one has a japanese guitar. You'd have to manually attack them before they're brushable.

Biting someone, from my doing, has not lowered my praise. From what I can tell, praise comes from nature, Sakuya, and her Guardian Saplings.

Hope that helped a bit.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

how long does it take to posses all the brushes, so far I've only played 1 hour and got the frist 2 brushes. Wouldn't possesing all the brushes pretty much put you half way through the game.
I honestly wish they spoke clearly instead of the gibberish way they do. I didn't mind it for shadow of the colossus but the okami voices are a bit annoying ^^;

The "gibberish" actually worked for SOTC since Wanda and the Gods seemed to speak a very archaic sounding "forgotten" language, and the sounds weren't repeated over and over again, making it sound more realistic. Yes, the gibberish for Okami gets somewhat annoying, more so than the King of All Cosmos' rappin' track skills speak.

As for the length of gameplay,
Spoiler:
I hear it's 40-50 some hours. Damn, that's long, I think.

I've heard 30, myself. I don't think game length is a spoiler though Spat.

What makes me sad is that this thread is only 110 posts long, and some of the...umm...questionable RPG forum threads DWARF this.

Bloody fantastic game so far though. I'm just not far enough to comment on anything specific quite yet.

The same thing happened in Japan though. This game came out and it didn't sell very well, from what I heard. It was overshadowed by FF12.

the game would be really lengthy if it is more than 30 hours. Most action games nowadays really only take less than 20 hours unless its gta.
Its good to know that its made to last.

Gamespot said it was around 30 hours long. Knowing them they probably just blew through the game just to get an idea of how long it took to complete. I've been in the game 6 hours and I've unlocked 6 brushes I believe
Spoiler:
( I've just unlocked the vine brush, the last of the 3 flora gods.)

The "language" instantly reminded me of the Klonoa series for their use of a unique language.

The language reminds me of Animal Crossing speak even though it's not just the words sped up. It sort of annoys me since the sounds are repetitive, but I think I can vaguely grasp the effect they were going for with it. I wouldn't have been disappointed with voice acting though.

Okami is truely as beautiful as I initially thought and I am very pleased with the amount of brush freedom. I don't quite see the urgent need to up your ink bottle capacity yet though.

I'm now excited at what possible kind of secret twist the end of the game could throw at you, as stated in the manual?

I have 6 ink bottles right now. When it comes to attacking enemies' weak points later in the game, you'll need them. I've actually lost my Divine Instrument a few times from running out of ink.

Tip: Do LOTS of fishing. If you catch 2 Huchen (which take 3 slashes to capture one) You can make 15000 Yen easy--run back to Shinshu Field and get new moves. Buy the Rosary Bead Storm, you can reach lvl 3 Godhood with ease using those.

Yes, the game rocks. I actually found myself craving it at work today - I just needed to see that awesome art style, hear that music, play the damn game! Easily one of the best purchases I've made recently, I'm getting the guide just to get the character art - it's amazing.
