I got up at 7 AM to go stand in line and get a Wii. No dice. There was a huge turnout where I'm at. 200 people at Best Buy for 100 Wiis, 50 people at Toys R Us where there were 40, Target had already passed out numbers, and Walmart did a midnight sale even though they aren't a 24 hour Walmart. This is all in the small area of Fair Lakes.
I rushed with my friend over to Woodbridge and got there right when customers were getting their Wiis at Target. Sold out. Went over to Best Buy and it was even worse than the one at Fair Lakes. Went over to Woodbridge Toys R Us and was 48th and 49th in line. They only had 40 Wiis. The fuckers didn't even have a sign out front saying how many they had like Mo0's did in Fair Lakes so we wasted an hour standing there. It was funny b/c when I started asking people if they were getting a Wii or not (because there seemed to be some families and couples and such) when I was counting hands they thought I might have been an employee. Nah, just wanted to help the guys in back with me but it seemed they appreciated knowing what number they were. Those Toys R Us employees at Woodbridge don't know how to handle a line. It was orderly and all but they wasted a lot of people's time by not putting out a sign. I had heard at the Fair Lakes Toys R Us from some guys in line that a manager from the one in Manassas had no customers so I called my dad while standing at the one in Woodbridge and got directions and a phone number to that one. Called around 10 while blasting down Prince William Parkway towards it and they said they were packed and had none left. Fucking rumors. I also heard a rumor that the Best Buy in Woodbridge will be getting more Wiis at 6 PM. That's probably a sack of shit too. I'll be calling around anyway to see when new shipments come in though. Hopefully Mo0 can help me out in that department since it isn't launch anymore. Yeah buddy? =D It sucks because I got back from Anime USA at 3 AM and should have just gone and stood in line and I'd probably would have been fine. Oh well, at least I know that Nintendo is having a fucking excellent launch. Probably the most successful launch ever. We'll have to see the results but I'm pretty sure. So anyway, assessment... MISSION W: FAILURED! Most amazing jew boots |
got my wii just 2hrs ago but had to stand in the line at target till 8:00am (got there around 5-ish)
i was the last person to get a ticket..im fucking lucky anyways just got the system nothing more till next week..zelda is calling me baby ^^ Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Bah, the EB I preordered at doesn't open until Noon and as such I won't have it for another hour and a half.
Will phone Acer to taunt later though. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I arrived at Gamestop at 11:55pm. They were letting people with pre-orders in one at a time to finish payment and get everything squared away so when 12:00 hit, they could just hand out systems. Thanks to them being bitches about the name on the credit card (it has my mom's name, but I handle payments on it), despite them accepting the EXACT SAME card two days earlier to pay the balance on the Wii pre-order (I needed to pay for Zelda and Contact), 12:00 hit while I was in the store. So they gave me my Wii! I was one of the first people in HI to get one, probably. I lol'd at the guy who came in after me. I did the head nod "sup" motion, and he just kind of stared at me.
When I got home, I tried setting one of the VCRs I have lying around (the "new" TV only has coax in for some reason). It refused to work without a connection to cable. That VCR is maybe 8 years old, and it's pretty much broken. It eats tapes and is has one of the worst interfaces ever: "we'll not label any of the buttons on the front that we have overloaded with four names. Everyone knows that the > button is also the up button. lawl". So I get out the 20 year old JVC VCR which was plugged in to the old TV. Man this thing rocks. First off, it just works. Doesn't complain about not having a connection to CATV. Secondly, it has a great interface. Buttons on the front have one use and meaning. All of the menus contain instructions telling you exactly how to work it (programming the thing to record shows is a snap). Also, it plays tapes great. I watched a couple minutes of Good Burger for lol, and then plugged the Wii in to the back. Only problem with that VCR is no Stereo sound :\ Although can you really tell Stereo from Mono on TV speakers? Playing the Wii is pretty easy. It took a while to realize (because I'd been up for nearly 24 hours, 8 of those being work) that it's not a light gun. It senses relative motion, I believe. The sensor bar is easy to install (just stick it on the top of the TV), and there isn't a long, involved config process for it. I've only played Zelda so far, which is quite awesome. Vladimir Cole can go fuck himself -- the game isn't all brown. The number of polys drawn on the screen is a bit improved, not hugely though. The biggest improvement, IMO, is the lighting. There seem to be MANY more lighting and shading modes than the GPU for the GCN. I suspect that while the core is just a miniaturized Gamecube, the GPU has gotten a few extra features -- not a bad plan, especially since creating a GPU is orders of magnitude cheaper and easier than creating a new CPU -- HDLs for the win. I can't wait to get back home (I'm at work) and play some more. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Well i didn't get a Wii, but did get a copy of GRANDIA III!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, that's gonna have to tide me over to january when i finally pick one up. You guys are making me so jealous, i'm not sure if i'm gonna be able to post here for a while. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
It's still not sure how many units will be shipped to Europe, let alone my country. I just pre-ordered the Wii at two different locations (and may add a third) to make sure I get at least one Wii at launch date. The others I'll just cancel.
Also checked out a bunch of video reviews on IGN. It seems that Zelda is the best game to get (which is what I'll do), but other than that the other games aren't all super great, right? I heard that ExciteTruck is fun, but multiplayer sucks. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (or whatever) is suppose to be fun too, but not all that big. Half of of the 50 mini-games seems to suck. Rayman is fun, but I'm not going to buy a bunch of mini-games for that price. Trauma Center seems to be a remake of the DS version. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Is anyone else having trouble accessing the store and mynintendo.com? I keep getting errors everytime I try to create a name to get into the store.
FELIPE NO ![]() |
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Has anyone tried to play Wii Sports yet? I'm kinda miffed by the fact that I get an error message whenever I pop the disc in, while Trauma Center and Monkey Ball both work fine. I wouldn't imagine too many people have tried Wii Sports at all, what with that Zelda thingie coming out at the same time.
Not to mention that the Nintendo support line is currently being bombarded for whatever reason and I can't get through. Oh well, back to TC. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I tried it. Works fine with Boxing and Baseball, at the very least.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
No luck for me.
I called the Target, they already were sold out. I drove by the Best Buy and people were still waiting outside 20 minutes after it opened and they were sold out. I then decided to drive by Circuit City, which had like 5 people outside. They apparently gave out 36 vouchers at 8 am (store opened at 10), so I went across the street to the Toys 'R' Us, which had the longest line of any store yet (Best Buy's was probably about 50-60, TRU was about 100). I called and they wouldn't tell me how many they had or if they had enough for all the people outside (assholes) so I left. On my way back home, I had a bit of a moment of clarity: Sears. I went by there and there were like 3 people waiting outside the store, so I said woo hoo. But then someone walked up and said they handed out 5 vouchers at 8 am. I went in at 10 since I was there anyway and they wouldn't give out the ones that people weren't there to claim yet. My last ray of hope to get one today is Circuit City said any unclaimed Wiis would go on sale "about 1". I'm gonna go by at 12:30 on my way to a basketball game and give up for today if they don't have anymore left. Boo. :\ Anyone have a late shopper tip? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Me and my friend played all of the Wii sports games last night, as it was the only multiplayer game that we had. They all worked fine for me.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Mikey, your best bet is to call around be it Sears, Best Buy, Toys R Us, etc. Talk to their videogame department and ask when they'll be getting shipment in and if they have any controllers or games that you want left. Mo0's Toys R Us still has a bunch of Zelda and everything else so I'll be heading on over after lunch. I called my Best Buy and confirmed with the guy working there that they have heard that they should be getting a second shipment of about 50 Wiis later tonight at 6 PM. You should try talking to any around. They might also be getting more. Man, today is the most I've driven in FOREVER.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I got everything I wanted minus the classic controller. My store didn't get them in, apparently. Oh well. Small amount of impressions before i continue playing-
Wii Sports is a fucking BLAST. It's extremely easy to get into, and it's fun fun FUN! Monkey Ball is hard but also fun. I have yet to get into the later levels, because I've been having lots of fun with... ZELDA! Fucking awesome so far. Doesn't have the same spirit of Ocarina... yet... But I still haven't even gotten my sword and shield yet, so, we'll see! I'm very impressed with this system. It's easy to use, easy to get into, but most importantly it's a blast to play. I wish there were more VC games available, but oh well. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Well, I went out looking for a Wii at Target at like 9:45. I didn't realize they changed their hours to open @ 8am. :ninja: @ Target
Costco was right next door, so I went over there and there was 3 people camping lol. The first guy had the manager on the phone and he wouldn't tell us if the Wii was in stock or not. It was not. :ninja: @ Costco So, my 15 minutes of extremely lazy-style camping didn't pan out. ![]() P.s. - we have no Best Buys, no Circuirt Citys, no Toys 'R Us, just Walmart, Kmart, and Gamestop. That's weird. Anyway, good idea. I should have just gone ahead and picked up the games while I was at Sears, I didn't really think about that. I mean, a copy of Zelda and a classic controller are still the same even if you don't buy them where you got the system. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Man Acer, you should've come to the Alexandria TRU midnight opening. It was fucking awesome. Some people from Anime USA came out to that.
;____________; There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, actually, I saw them. They had a stack of TPs (more than Wiis) and it looked like they had enough Excitetrucks to go around. They were short on classic controllers though, for some reason, the 3 people I saw buy them didn't get the one they had.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I pre-ordered mine at a store and just picked it up. Played some Wii Sports, it's certainly unique and light hearted fun at the moment. I'm kind of disappointed in terms of the precision of the Wii-mote, but haven't had nearly enough time to give it a good assessment.
Good luck to everyone trying to pick one up today... I got mine. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
The big Target had 120, the 120th person got there at 6am. They were handing out tickets at 7. Wii sports is fun but a little cheesy at times, I also have Monkey ball, Zelda, Red Steel and GT Proseries but I think I'm going to return the last two and get Trauma Center.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
My experience was relatively smooth. I had my Wii preordered at TRU, so I went to Circuit City because they have a sale on games and accessories (I wanted a classic controller). They sold the last one to a person in front of me, but it really didn't matter. The manager was telling people that they would only sell accessories to customers buying consoles, which pissed some people off. I got TP and Rayman and headed out to TRU.
The TRU was incredibly disorganized. There was a big line in the R-zone, and another at the service desk, with no indication of what was going on where. I finally figured out preorders were at the service desk, which only had one register going. Not to mention, if you wanted something you hadn't preordered (like a controller), you had to go get in the R-zone separate from your console purchase. It took an hour, but I finally got my Wii, which works great. I'll get a classic controller some other time, since there aren't any virtual console games I want right now anyway. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
For those who have the thing - how hard was it to set the connection with the internet up and how does the updating take place?
