Hopefully someone can help me out here, especially after I saw that advanced moveset discussion a while back. I was thinking about putting one of my favorite pokemon on my team, Kingdra, but I've never actually used it in battle before (mainly because of the whole trading requirement). This isn't for serious battling mind you, just want something that can cream the elite four and get the monsters I like in the hall of fame.

Brine
Dragon Pulse
Ice Beam
Toxic

Anything I should watch out for/glaring holes in this moveset? Ah forgot to mention, I found out these moves for it from this site if you're curious.
Aside from being almost completely vulnerable to steel types it's actually not a bad moveset. I might suggest this moveset (it's also the moveset I'm using on my Kingdra)
People in the tourney might want to write this down

Dragon Pulse
Ice Beam
Surf
Toxic
(Scope Lens to assist its ability Sniper or Leftovers if you intend to last in a match.)

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Ah, about the ability, Sniper is better right? Swift Swim looks like I'd need to put rain dance on there to take advantage of it, or at least have it on another team member. I'd rather not give the computer a free turn to wail on me.

You're right about the steel problem, but I don't think it'll be too bad. Looks like water at least hits for regular damage. Also, there's several other team members that can help out.

For competitive play I think Swift Swim is ever so slighty better to have. If you play your guessing game right you can sweep with Kingdra by using Waterfall + Raindance and a choice band.
But if you get lucky with his Sniper ability you can take down just about anything in one hit. Just watch out for dragons that are faster than Kingdra.

How ya doing, buddy?

If you want to get into the nitty gritty when comparing Kingdra to other dragon-types, I recommend using Psypoke's Comparer tool.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'd eat this up if that other site didn't have the same thing and if I had any other favorite dragons aside from Dragonite. A little easier to read than the veekun one though.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I've never even heard of veekun. Just Serebii, Smogon (which is down), and Psypoke for the popular places. I do like some aspects of their comparer, though. The actual height comparisons are pretty cool.

Anyway, the purpose of recommending that tool is so that you can see who's faster, hits harder, etcetera, so that you know what you're up against if your Kingdra comes out against another Dragon. You need to know if you can take him or switch out before you get hit by Dragon Claw or worse, Draco Meteor.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Ice Beam

Anything I should watch out for/glaring holes in this moveset? Ah forgot to mention, I found out these moves for it from this site if you're curious.
Well... this is what smogon says:
Quote:
[SET]
name: Mixed
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Surf / Hydro Pump
move 3: Rain Dance
move 4: Dragon Pulse
item: Leftovers
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Lonely
evs: 252ATK / 240 SPATK / 16 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]
<p>A strange set on the surface, but this does work. Rain Dance boosts Kingdra's speed to 420, beating out even Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. With the speed boost and the power boost to both Water moves, Kingdra can lay down quite a hurting. Dragon Pulse is designed to handle anything that resists Water - beware of the odd Empoleon.</p>

[SET]
name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Waterfall
move 3: Return
move 4: Hydro Pump / Draco Meteor / Substitute
item: Leftovers / Scope Lens
ability: Sniper
nature: Adamant
evs: 6HP / 252 ATK / 252 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]
<p>Kingdra now has physical STAB to go with Dragon Dance, so this set takes advantage of it. Unfortunately for Kingdra, its speed is only sufficient to tie Scarf Heracross after a Dragon Dance. If you don't like ties, move 20 speed EVs to HP - you'll reach the old magic number of 264. Sniper is a scary trait, and Scope Lens is available to abuse this. The last move is a filler - you can pack some special move for physical walls, or Substitute to counter status moves, and allowing you to set up another Dragon Dance.</p>

[SET]
name: Sniper
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Dragon Pulse
move 3: Surf
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Scope Lens / Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
ability: Sniper
nature: Modest
evs: 6HP / 252SPATK / 252 SPD

[SET COMMENTS]
<p>This set, in a word: fireworks. If Draco Meteor gets a critical hit, it will hit with enough force to bring down a Blissey. Scope Lens is ideal for taking advantage of this, but this set also doubles as a decent Choice set. You can also put Focus Energy on this set if you think you can pull it off.</p>

[Other Options]
<p>Kingdra learns Yawn, which is a good general move. It still gets Flail, but good luck pulling it off with Tyranitar everywhere.</p>

[Opinion]
<p>In the past, Kingdra has been bashed a lot for its poor movepool. In DP, like most other Pokemon, Kingdra got a huge helping of new moves to help it out. While Kingdra's movepool still isn't anything to write home about, it has a few very interesting options that could work well - with a little luck.</p>

[Counters]
<p>Ludicolo and Empoleon easily wall most Kingdra sets. Milotic, Suicune, and Celebi are also effective in this department. Kingdra's single weakness, Dragon, is a bit more prominent in DP than it was in past gens, so things that can take advantage of that will work. A little luck is necessary to beat Sniper sets. Kingdra's lack of resistances (aside from Fire and Water) are its greatest downfall - in general, just keep beating it down with strong attacks.</p>

Have you thought about making themes for competitions every month? Like, an Underused tournament or a Fire tournament? That'd be pretty fun, if enough people had teams like those prepared.

Anyway, I should be ready in time for next month's tournament.

Yeah I have given it some thought on themes like a little cup tournament (lv.20 and under) or a UU tourney. But in order to pull off stuff like that I'll need more participants in the future =o.

I'd add Marriland to your list also. Their site gets a lot of traffic and their forums have some pretty smart players. Personally, though, Marriland's best feature is their Pokedex. It's arguably the cleanest, most well-presented Pokedex out there.

It's an oft overlooked site, but it's got the goods to run alongside Serebii, Smogon and Psypoke, that's for sure.

Wow. Bookmarked, and will probably be the one I use from now on. Giving base stats on the Pokedex search page was a big plus, but experience needed to level up depending on growth rate, all sprites, color coding and height comparison with the trainer make it an easy choice.

Thanks for that, Crash.

Bleh that was complicated. Ok the tournament thread is now up!

Sorry for the delay. I found out at the last second NightofShadow decide not to participate. That means Crash Landon will have to sit out for round one.
That also means that one person will sit out on every round.

Good luck everyone =)

Haha, nice match ^-^.
I wasn't expecting Darkrai or Arceus! I would've tossed in something a little stronger. And I couldn't hear what you were saying over the mic during the last minute before we logged off. Though I caught the part about you mentioning the two ubers were not EV trained. Still they packed a punch and if I didn't get my toxic spikes in play I would've lost real fast.
Also, damn your Skarmory for causing a draw against Miltank .

I said the ubers were EV trained. I was basically saying that they were not worth it due to the fact that they WERE weak, no matter what way you trained them.

They were?
I thought Arceus had the highest base stats in the entire game. Any of its standard moves could throw my team around like a rag doll. Frankly, I thought you just made a few bad choices while fighting me (Thunder on Nidoqueen? =p.) Which was enough to turn the match around if you think about it.

It's true, Darkrai is weak defensively. But what do you need a defense for if you're putting everyone to sleep (and possibly gaining HP through Dream Eater?) I'm no expert on using legendary pokes but I wouldn't say he's harmless. Arceus on the other hand, well I don't know what happened there. You're supposed to Choice Band it and just use Judgement all over my pokemon

How ya doing, buddy?

well, the movesets I used were from Smogon, with Arceus' moveset being the dragon sweeper. A friend of mine gave me those pokemon, but I threw them away after the battle.

This finally got a European release last friday and I've been playing it a fair bit during the week. Having moved to a new house with decent wi-fi, I can now use my DS online too! I added my Pokemon friend code to the wiki page but bear in mind I've only got two badges so far...
