What Skills said, basically.
But I want to know why Spear Pillar is banned. Sure it's randomly annoying from time to time but that's what makes it such a awesome stage to Brawl on.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

It's hilarious, stupid, and arbitrary, like everything else to ever come out of the Smash competitive scene. I don't know what you want us to really say here. "Gee, those tourneyfags sure are silly, nyuk nyuk"?

Edit: So, does that mean any tourney you guys set up and run has to follow "standard" tourney rules or something? Are we really going to justify that way of thinking and playing? I ain't running this shit, so it's an honest question here.
I'm not expecting anyone to conform to the tournament standards or anything, as I've said this whole time, I'm just posting up the information I know, so feel free to disagree with it. We don't have to rule out any of their banned stages from our tournament, it's why I'm popping up these questions early. If you disagree with it, and if everyone is alright with it, we add it to the stages we're allowed to choose when the tournament happens and we know what's available to us. We could take the time right now to set up a GFF Standard Set of Rules for tournaments we run here. It's pretty much what I'm trying to get at here.

I don't follow the tourney format too hard either when facing my friends or anything, but I do agree with some of the crap they're saying. I'm not even remotely good enough to participate in the "hardcore" tournaments, so I disagree with some stuff here and there too.

I don't think Norfair, Pictochat, or Spear Pillar should be banned from our tournament. I personally like those stages and hope to fight people there.

Supposedly their arguements for those banned stages:

Norfair: The lava. Ow, it hurts. It hurt in Brinstar also, I don't see how this is any different.

Pictochat: What's drawn in the background is completely random, the stage could quickly change the momentum of a match.

Spear Pillar: All the effects that happen on stage. Dialga's Hyper Beam, Palkia flipping the stage upside down... That stuff.

I personally don't care about their arguments on it since it's something that could easily be overcome with constant practice.

And I just want to make sure everyone is alright with having 4 stock, 8 minutes for the battles (this is probably the third time I've asked also). Decent amount of lives to go by and the time limit assures that nothing goes on too long and prevents people from doing some hardcore camping.

Feel free to disagree with anything I say regarding the tournament and the clans. I want to make sure everyone is satisfied before we even start running one.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

My feel on the banned stages

Rumble Falls -- I'd say unbanned just so I can listen to Bramble Blast lol
Norfair -- Uhh..why? Its only lava
Spear Pillar -- Oh boo fucking hoo...you can't play backwards or something?
Wario Ware -- I wouldn't ban this one..the mini games can be pretty fun
Distant Planet -- Too damn big
75M -- Using Big DK to your advantage can get fun (IE up smash when he comes out)
Mario Bros. -- Too Bizzare
Flatzone 2 -- too Bizzare
Pictochat -- UNBANNED
Hyrule Temple -- Too damn big
Big Blue -- Impartial

I think that, if anything, you should create a seperate thread for the tourney you'll be holding. Preferably in Multiplayer Arena. In there, ask the participants what they think and try to come up with something from scratch instead of basing it on some arbitrary rule set that some people think is the proper way of playing. Just ignore every damn thing you hear from other places, and instead take discussions or votes from those who will be participating.

That way, I imagine the most fun will be had by those who are playing. It just doesn't make sense to me that you'd start with a base idea from a group of folks that many people have devoted pages and pages of these threads to throughout their iterations to post "gee, tourneyfags are do dummmmmmmb, lol items, fox only, final meme recycling" about.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

And since I'm not imcompetant, nor an idiot, I DO have my Wii DMZ'd.
I assumed you probably had, that paragraph was more of a general statement because a bunch of people were talking about it - not specifically aimed at you.

Bonsly is pretty useful. You just have to chuck it at your opponent and should you connect...

*WOOSH!!
And yet it takes so long I've never seen that happen. ._.

GFF isn't Smashboards, so I think adhering to their set of rules is kind of ridic. But anyway...

New Pork City is missing from that list (I think). I imagine they'd want to ban that one too, though, on account of being GINORMOUS.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

The real reason Spear Pillar is banned is because the cave at the bottom can keep you alive forever (unless one of the pieces is broken off by Dialga or something).

I do not feel like turning this thing into Major League Gaming or SmashBoards lite, but then again I also do not feel like participating until Nintendo gets their online network working efficiently.

(Not sure if any are missing from the list. If there's anything I missed)
I don't see Bridge of Eldin on that list, but I can't see them being too pleased with a stage that creates an explosive and that you can't edgeguard on.

I wouldn't want to fight there regardless anyway since it is GINORMOUS. I hate big arenas anyway. <_< Banhammer on the stage.

Counterpick. Tourneyfags are cool with the stage.

Also, tournament discussion: Here.

Just so we don't spam up this thread with constant disagreement of the tourneyfag set of rules.

As for the Screenshot of the Week idea, we start on Sunday? You have until next Friday to submit a screenshot, and we vote on the weekends?

I'm gonna try to get a voice session going this week. Is there anyone who has AT&T service and a headset (mobile to mobile is completely free)? Or a landline with unlimited minutes? I wanna know my options! Plus most people have free night and weekend minutes that we can take advantage of as well.

Skype might be a good thing for voice chat. Or some other free voice chat service online.
The screenshot competition sounds like a fun diversion... after I'm done with the game. Right now I'm putting all my efforts into completing the challenges, and don't really have time to put together some cool screenshots just yet.
Speaking of, has anyone viewed the latest downloadable replay from Brawl WiFi yet? Fox completing target smash 1 in 7 seconds!!!! Really awesome.

p.s. Everyone make sure to add me on their friend roster! I added all of YOU, and I'm still seeing mostly non-confirmations.

We already talked about this before Brawl came out... I believe Lukage has a Team Speak server we could use to chat with each other.

I'll add you in the morning, Cheeze.

I dunno why everyone hates large stages. I love Temple and New Pork City. The only thing I don't like about Temple in Brawl is that it no longer plays the Fire Emblem music. That track was awesome! Distant Planet isn't large at all in my opinion.

I hate it when Spear Pillar goes upside down though. It's a cool stage and all, but everytime it goes upside down, I can never control myself and end up killing myself every-single-time.

Even though I'm in Canada, my lag is pretty minimal. Most people I play as are fine, although I seem to lag now with Icy even though it was fine before. My first matches with Acer were laggy too.

P.S. That was a fun Bowser/Dedede match we had last night, Starman :D
I thought it was stupid that I got a pity Smash though. I only one 1 less KO and 1 more fall than you >:|

P.S. I am fine with 4 stock 8 minutes.

Yeah, Distant Planet isn't that big. I just hate it because I've died a few times not knowing the water washes you off the left sloped section. >: (

And Wolf, I didn't know you are in Canada too. I was wondering why you're pretty much the only one I have in the green so far. That, or I just need to fix my router settings.

SSB gets 1.4 Mil on launch week!

After just one week on store shelves, Super Smash Bros.® Brawl for Wii has become the fastest-selling video game in Nintendo of America’s history. Since its launch on March 9, the feature-packed fighting action game has sold more than 1.4 million units in the United States, including more than 874,000 on March 9 alone. It has sold at a rate of more than 120 units per minute between launch and March 16.

GoNintendo » Blog Archive » Brawl becomes Nintendo of America’s fastest selling title…ever- What are you waiting for?

Also note that it nearly trumps Brawl's LTD in Japan.

Why don't you just use random stage selection? It's more fair that way, cuz, you know . . . tourneyfags.

As for screenshot of the week, which markedly less people seem to be currently interested in, I hope we have a weekly cap on the submissions (1 or 2?). I know I already have a small collection, while Freelance Wolf appears to have amassed a storehouse already from earlier posts such as the one with Moon Bread.

Perhaps we could change up themes every week once in a while too. Obviously we won't get tired of the usual funny things you can do in screenshots, but it'd also be neat to have points for style, hard-to-do things, or just cool things in general.

Forgot to post this yesterday but I finally got my US Brawl... don't look at me like that! XP
So now my cousin, my brother and I are going to be spending time doing everything all over again. I'm not saying it's a pain but we do quite enjoy unlocking everything again. XD
You guys don't have to do anything on your side. I won't be giving out my US FC as I said before I'll be using my JP copy for GFF. So nothing will change (just a FYI). This also means we might not be available online this week.

Oh, I was kidding about my brother participating in the tourney/clan thing (I haven't told him about this yet but I don't think he wants to anyway; neither you guys wants to face against him! lol). I'll be checking more info on the Mutiplayer section.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh hesh, you. Like he even needs it.
I like how the shots they have of him make him look as though there's actually some degree of gracefulness to his movements. An intriguing dichotomy.

As for the tourneyfag view on the stages, I suppose they do that to rule out the possibility (as best they can) of whiny pussies with the "WTF YOU ONLY WON CUZ OF THA STAGE YOU SUCK I HATE YOU!!!!11!11". The same's probably true of not having items.

I'm sure we've all already had matches where we lost because the other player (CPU or not) got lucky with something like that. The Arwing shot you instead of them, the Halberd decided to go after you, they got the Smash Ball in one hit, so-and-so came out of the Poke Ball or Assist Trophy, etc. And yes, that those things are an integral part of the game is a valid argument, I'm just saying they probably would rather not deal with the randomness of it by not having items and banning certain stages.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Anyone got some tips on how to take out the boss Porky? It's attack patterns seem harder for me to read than the rest of the bosses.

...I feel a little dumb asking this, but I've found that on playing on big-screens that there tends to be a split-second delay in all that I did, as if there was a teeny bit of lag even when playing offline. I remember having a similar issue with Melee. Anyone know if there might be settings on Brawl, my Wii or the TV to correct this?

I'm not sure if it's even possible for there to be varying lag times based on TVs alone. Just check the options menu. If there's some weird option for it, there's some weird option for it. Otherwise, I'm not sure how much help we can be.

Q. Is it bad that all three opponents in online Basic Brawl dropped out when I beat the crap out of them with Olimar?

He could have an old TV with a noticiblely slow response time. Smash would be the sort of game you could potentially notice it on. To actually correct it, check to see if your display has a "game mode", which might speed things up a bit. Some modern displays do. Other than that, no, Smash doesn't feature a correction function like Guitar Hero does or anything.

It's your TV. You need to put it into "Game Mode" if it has it. If not, look up the TV company online and see if they have anything to say about it.
Here's some help if you guys need it regarding how to beat certain bosses in the game mode: (WARNING-major spoilers)
