As the feverish sickness of undeath sinks in, Argumentus loses all perception of reality. His movements become wild and he throws himself headfirst into the trio of zombies, sinking his pick into the first before planting his boot on another.

I uttered an oath as the corpses beat up on me. I knew they ain't hit as hard as it first looked but it's still pretty dim. I ain't feelin' too good for fightin' and all either; best rest up for a spell and wait for my next opportunity.

The dwarf snarled as the zombie rose to its feet yet again. The blasted thing was nigh unkillable. Maybe because it was already dead. It was impossible to tell. He felt weakness surging through his muscles. Whatever that goo had done, it was leeching his strength. Clutching his holy symbol, he called out to his god, he invoked his healing nature and growled through the weakness, looking to cast it off like an unwanted mantle. Either way, while mots still flanked the beast, the dwarf again sank his steel into the thing, looking to bury his weapon between the creature's shoulder blades. This had to take the thing down a notch, it had been absolute labour beating on the monster.

Divine Mettle on self. Fuck you weakness.
Bolstering Strike on purple zombie.

Splattered with more black glop than ol' cousin Jed found in that hole underneath the apple orchard, Brigid takes a moment to clean up. It brought back some bad memories. The kinfolk told Jed to move away from there, but did he listen? No. Serves him right getting engulfed by a black pudding, the old coot.

Party blessed
Brigid's HP +8, Second Wind defenses
Saves against weakness

Ewan continues being saddled with a cookery gimmick which sustains far fewer jokes than expected. I blame myself.

Frying Pan: miss
Stop trying to take multiple move actions Hawkeye =(

Descending into a berseker rage, Argumentus hews all about him with his pick. Kicking the most damaged zombie to the floor with his mighty boot, he continues stomping on it until it is reduced to an unpleasant sticky spot on the wood. Hell on the boots, though.

Cleave: 8 damage to Infectious Zombie
4 damage to Infectious Zombie (Destroyed)

Bob dispenses chilly justice. The nearest of the sludge-hurlers stops dead in its tracks, and ice crystals blossom all over the sturdiest of the original zombies, abruptly destroying its structural integrity and bringing its obscene unlife to an end.

Icy Rays: 12 damage to Corruption Corpse (immobilized)
Icy Rays: CRITICAL HIT on Infectious Zombie. Destroyed Instantly (Zombie Weakness)
Okay already

Gabriel finishes off the first wave. The danger is far from over, but eliminating the immediate threat of further infection is a weight lifted from his shoulders.

Saves against weakness
Bolstering Strike: 15 damage to Infectious Zombie (Destroyed)
+2 temp HP

The wounds of the corruption corpses begin to reseal again, and they march forward in a fusillade of filth.

All Corruption Corpses regenerate 5 HP
Mote of Corruption: 10 damage to Bob (weakened)
Mote of Corruption: 8 damage to Ewan (weakened)
Mote of Corruption: 13 damage to Gabriel (weakened)
Mote of Corruption: Miss (Brigid)

The crumbling masonry in the basement breaks apart noisily beneath the floorboards, and one of the windows at the far north end of the inn begins to creak alarmingly. Additional unwanted guests are on the way.

The dwarf shrugged off the weakness, hewing his zombie foe in twain and smirking to himself until a wad of goo slammed into the back of his neck. Instantly he felt the strength sap from him again.

"Oh come ON."

The sound of further creaking and straining elicited a growl from the dwarf.

"Right, this was a bad idea. Just saying."

How ya doing, buddy?

"Alright, keep being helpful, Sogster" the dwarf thought to himself. He reached into his pack and pulled out the explosive candies he had been keeping for just the right occasion. He smelled them deeply. They smelled like... victory.

"Hey Bobsie!" He shouted to the elfette, "Now's the time to pull out that acid trick of yours, sweetass!"

Ouch.

Ewan is hit by... well he's not exactly sure, but he knows it hurt and he knows whatever it's doing to him isn't healthy. Suddenly he is teleported several feet closer to the dartboard for reasons unknown. It must be a sign. He makes a beeline for the now reachable corpse that the creepy one had blasted with ice. Raising the cast-iron above his head, he yells:

". . . . ."

Well, nothing. Unfortunately his lack of quick wit means that what should have been a clever remark at the zombie's expense turns into a rather embarrassing moment for the young bouncer. He decides to blame the zombie for this and proceeds to bash what's left of it's skull in. That'll teach it to stem creativity like that.

Motsognir distributes 5 servings of explosive carrot flavor to the new visitors. Honestly, they seem a little tall to be trick-or-treating but their costumes are incredible.

Bob has no groove in his soul; he fails to Shake It
Bomb Planted

While Brigid's plan is theoretically sound, her liquid carrying capacity is somewhat limited. She sprays a fine mist of flaming booze over the nearest zombies, but they scarcely even notice.

3 damage to Corruption Corpse, Corruption Corpse
Makes the save against being dazed if it's any consolation

Ewan throws as hard as he can in his weakened state. At least the attack lands for a change.

Knife: 3 damage to Corruption Corpse
Saves against Weakness

Under a barrage of scrabbling hands, Argumentus' barricade on the basement stairs collapses. Pale, waterlogged forms begin to crawl upstairs on their hands and knees. These pitifully soggy things don't look like they could stand up to much abuse.

The window in the north of the inn shatters, and the assault on the room's interior door begins.

The dwarf looked up to see the waterlogged beasts begin shuffling up the stairs, and with a snarl he took off at a sprint towards the door. Sliding along his knees, he popped up gripping his throwing hammer and cocking it to hurl across the room. Then, setting it into his belt he grinned and withdrew the onyx dog statue.

As the animal materialized, growling menacingly, Gabe rubbed it between the ears and nodded his head towards the corroding monstrosities busy hurling stuff around the room.

"You want to fetch a bone, boy? Yeah. Yeah you do."

I saw the clever dwarf reach into his pack and hurl a handful of the explosives at the zombies. I clapped my hands over my ears and braced myself for the resulting explosion.

After a few moments of no explosion, I removed my hands from my ears and peered quizzically at where the sweets had landed in case they had fallen down a hole of something. It appeared they hadn't. All of a sudden, I remembered that of course they needed a trigger!

I levelled my staff and blasted a gobbet of acid from the tip into one of the zombies, spraying the acrid stuff over the group of shambling horrors and more importantly, the explosives on the floor.

I hit the deck behind the bar as a loud explosion ripped through the pub, hoping that should the innkeeper ever return, he'd appreciate that blackened and smoke damaged was a really in look for bars at the moment.

His brain fogged by the zombie plague working inside him, Argumentus loses track of what's going on. All he can tell is that he's been waiting to be served for ages now and there's still nothing on the table but stale bread and a pitcher of water with a dead sparrow in it. He's never coming back to this dive, and he's already mentally penning a poor review for Pirate Isles Dining Monthly. This sort of thing is really just inexcusable.

At last he spots the waiter, but he's just carrying some weird lumpy pudding. That's not what Argumentus had ordered. This is the last straw, and he hefts the table into the air.

"CHECK PLEASE!"

Revenge of the Flying Table Master: 13 damage to Corruption Corpse
Please pretend the table is actually missing. Fuckin' pregen maps

Bob fires off his acid arrow, and dives back behind the bar for his own safety. Distracted by the slime clinging to him, his acidic blast is not in itself especially impressive. But enough of it splashes off his target onto Motsognir's candy that

Acid Arrow: 5 damage (was 10, halved due to weakness) to Corruption Corpse, ongoing 5 acid damage
Splash to Corruption Corpse: miss
Splash to Delicious Candy: candy explodes
Candy Explosion: 10 damage to Corruption Corpse, 8 damage to Corruption Corpse, 16 damage to Corruption Corpse (Bloodied; Critical Hit)
Bob's save vs. weakness fails again

Gabe drags out that dog of his again. Some kind of rare imported breed or something. Every single time somebody visits, boom, out comes the dog. There's obviously something wrong with it; it's always foaming and growling and eating things that are not by any definition food.

Start. Hammer time.
Goliath summoned from the Demiplane of Puppies
+10 HP granted to Goliath
Save vs weakness fails

Three of the corruption corpses wade into melee, flailing about (albeit harmlessly) with their slimy limbs. One of them stays back, pelting the entirely-too-lucky elf mage with a clod of sludge in the face. If Bob weren't already on the floor, he'd be about to fall over.

All Corruption Corpses regenerate 5 HP
Corruption Corpse takes 5 ongoing acid damage (bloodied)
Slam: Miss (Mots)
Slam: Miss (Arg)
Slam: Miss (Arg)
Mote of Corruption: 13 damage to Bob (bloodied, forgot the icon though)

Motsognir was a happy camper. "Well done, honeycheeks!" he called out to the woman with a wink, circling around the the least blown-up of the slime things to pin one between the retard and himself. He swung his axe majestically in a great arc at the thing, hoping it wouldn't be alive enough to move.

Noting that the large one seems to be unhappy with the service of the establishment, Ewan remembers that once this place is back up and running, he's going to need to learn how to cook. After all, his crazy uncle had done all of the cooking, and seeing as he had been dragged off by similarly angry past customers who had been turned into zombies, Ewan knew that if the cooking didn't improve, the business would probably remain stagnant. But if there was edible food in the joint as opposed to just being the only place within a day's walk to get a stiff drink, the business could flourish. Ewan makes a mental note to ask the large one to fill out a customer satisfaction card.

First order of business would be to build up some strength in his pancake flipping arm. Ewan walks up to the nearest zombie and gives it the equivalent of a full bottle of vodka of pain in a single hit. Maybe he should offer this service to customers who just need a hangover so they don't have to go home that night.

Well ain't this a treat. Finally we're gettin' somewhere with them corpses, and another set of reinforcements came in. They ain't lookin' too tough but they's a lot there, and there are others in the other room. Ain't this just like the time ol' Hallberg Birckbichler's pigs got out of the sty. Just when we thought we had 'em all cornered, the chickens flew the coop! And that is how I convinced the mayor to lift the ban on locksmiths.*

Outta the corner of my eye I saw the idiot city-lady give a sad little spasm of weakness. I know she ain't the strongest link in our chain, but I knew she could do better'n that.

Bob resolves to clean himself up and get this fight over with before Soggy gets any friendlier.

Picking out the weakest-looking zombie in the bunch, Motsognir makes up his mind to finish it off. Swinging for center mass, his axe cuts cleanly through the corruption corpse's abdomen — and bursts open the festering sac of black pus contained within. The vile stuff sprays all over him.

Bob's HP +7
Bloody Ending: 23 damage to Corruption Corpse (destroyed)
Death Burst: 12 damage to Motsognir

Brigid jabs her shiv into the sturdiest-looking of the slimers. Maybe if you only poke little holes in them, they won't go all explodey.

Bob saves vs. Weakness
Righteous Brand: 8 damage to Corruption Corpse

Of course, blunt trauma is always the best way to eliminate the pesky telltale-bodily-fluids problem.

Frying Pan: 8 damage to Corruption Corpse

The drowned ones crawl ever closer to Bob. One more climbs out of the basement, the stairway having cleared out a little.

The door to the north splinters, and trotting footsteps grow ever closer in the hallway. One more door to get through.

The paladin readied his throwing hammer to and hurl it at the nearest corpse, only to see it fall under the crushing weight of the fighter's attack, so adjusting on the balls of his feet he fired the weapon at the further target before he leaned down and whispered something to Goliath, the dog quickly spinning in a circle before taking off after its quarry. The dog's lust for battle returned Gabe's faith, reminding him of how much he loved this sort of situation. He also remembered the words of the padre, from when he was a boy.

"Many have died, last week, on these streets. In the basement of this building, you will find them. I have given them the last rites. Now, you do what you will. You are stronger than us. But soon, I think they be stronger than you. When the dead walk, seƱores, we must stop the killing... or lose the war."

He remembered asking the padre what had brought them back to that place, what fueled their desires.

"Some kind of instinct. Memory, of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives" the Padre had replied. Gabriel didn't hate the undead, he pitied them. And he would liberate them from these immortal coils. By any means he had at his disposal.

His first time ever encountering the undead. He'd been a child then, but still. He'd battled. He'd battled, and when he'd emerged, he'd been the chosen of Kord. A deep breath as he steadied himself, gripping the symbol of his god as his pet ripped into the shambling mass of death.

"Courage, lads!" He roared, hoisting his axe. "Those who rally under Kord's banner need not fear their kind!"

Throwing hammer at red zombie.
Goliath sprints to u10 and attacks.

Stumbling to his feet, Bob fires off a hasty spell and prepares to bug out.

Ray of Frost: miss

Trying to catch the attention of the maitre d'hotel, Argumentus engages in an impromptu pirouette. Suddenly, that damn waiter with the dessert cart stumbles into him, and pudding splatters all over. The travails one must go through for some scrambled eggs in this place are ridiculous.

Passing Attack: 11 damage to Corruption Corpse (Destroyed)
13 damage to Corruption Corpse
Death Burst: CRITICAL HIT! 15 damage to Argumentus(bloodied)

Seeing the messy explosions his companions were bringing on themselves, Gabe decides to play it safe. He needn't engage the zombies personally when he has man's best friends on his side: a faithful hound and something heavy to throw.

Throwing Hammer: 3 damage to Corruption Corpse
HP +10 (+ Second Wind Defenses)
Save vs. Weakness: Success (finally)

The heavily battered corruption corpses make what will probably be their last attacks, focusing on the weakest members of the group in their limited time.

Alright, this was really starting to get annoying. It's hard to run a business when you're dead, and without a will, these zombies would probably take over the restaurant and turn it into some sleazy bar. Ewan refuses to let the place sink to that level. He would survive this ordeal if it killed him.
