Unless you're one of those fags who takes music from games, puts a Fruityloops drum pattern behind it then posts it on OCRemix of course, in which case you can fuck straight off back to your talent-vacuum of a day job. If disliking shit music made badly by nerdy kids makes me a snob then I'm glad to be a snob. I was speaking idiomatically. |
If I didn't know, there certainly would have been some irony on the next flick I caught.

Well clearly I don't, seeing as how I'm so close-minded. Obviously I need to be more open to experiences involving kids calling themselves DJ Sephiroth using cheap sequencing programmes to lay tired old drumloops and unbelievably dated synths under the string sections from Final Fantasy tunes.
Look kid, I'm sure your heart's in the right place and you're going to defend OCRemix until your fingers bleed but you're entirely missing my point now and the point I originally made. Someone said that the music for this Sonic game was going to have a Celtic feel and I made a joke that rather than the same old Enya-lite the Japs love plastering all over anything they want to sound Celtic in a computer game, as it's Sonic they'd probably put in some horrible late-90s dance music which, if you weren't such a close-minded ignoramous, you'd know had a lot of Celtic influence in the form of hacks like DJ Sakin dumping 808 drum loops on the music from Braveheart and calling it a tune. The music was universally derided by DJs and clubbers but stormed the charts, making it ideal for a Sonic game. See what I did there? My next comment was that on OCRemix there's a lot of tunes where some junior producer has taken a celtic feeling song from a game like Suikoden (Which is full of them) and added some wistful pan-pipes and a drum loop straight out of 1998 and called it a day. To anyone who's not a close-minded fool, this is old fashioned and basically crap. I never said everything on OCRemix was shit, some of the stuff on there is almost listenable in an ironicly amusing way. The problem here is that in leaping to defend some perceived slight against your website of preference, you've exposed your own musical ignorance and general inability to read and understand anything above the simplest and most basic of posts. I imagine you're an American which fair enough, puts you automatically five years behind the rest of the world in terms of dance music trends but to believe that the majority of the tripe that passes for dance remixes on OCRemix is in any way relevant to modern electronica and not at least ten years out of fashion is to almost wilfully ignorant. I appreciate that most of your contributors are far too young to be allowed out on their own at night and as such have to turn to the radio for inspiration which is never going to help and that probably explains why so much stuff they produce is such garbage but until you yourself have made the effort to find out what music trends are doing in the real world and experience some stuff that wasn't written by a 13 year old wiith thick glasses and Pikachu pajamas then you're in no position whatsoever to be making assumptions about other people's musical tastes or knowledge and you're doing a disservice to those very kids whose work you claim to be the head of evaluating. So stop being such a self-righteous little scrotum, learn to read people's posts properly and think before you post in future, ok? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
tl;dr
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Holy shit, this guy is angry as hell, yet he doesn't have a clue, it's hilarious. He seriously thinks we just post original audio with FL drumloops on top, uses the same old lame assumptions (OCR iz teknoz!, everyone's American, everyone's 13 years old) and generic interweb putdowns like "kid", when most of our musicians are in their mid to late 20s and we have all types of music from an international community.
You have gotta be the biggest dumbass re: assumptions on OC ReMix that I've ever encountered, but you've made my day. Hahahaha! There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well Shin, I'm glad you know so much about the site. Clearly your musical horizons are much broader than Larry's, despite the fact that he's the principal submissions evaluator and listens to thousands of VGM arrangements and source tunes every year.
You don't know anything about OC ReMix. You probably heard a handful of old remixes from 2000-2002 and assumed the entire library was like that - being the ignoramus that you are. We've posted everything from live jazz, gypsy solo guitar, piano sonatas, string quartet, New Age, ambient, and pop-rock to hip hop, Radiohead style alternative, heavy metal, ska, orchestral overture, and everything in between. The reason we have less-than-stellar arrangements created using drumloops is because those songs were largely submitted in the early days of the site, at a time when music technology was significantly less widespread and affordable. Electronic music was by far the easiest thing to make and in fact one of the ONLY things the majority of hobbyist musicians could really submit. Times are much different now - we get submissions in all genres and really don't post much "90s Eurodance" at all. If you listened to everything on our front page, you'd hear that. However, you're a close-minded idiot, ergo, you won't. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

Can I do this with fruity loops and its basic stuff? OWAIT NOPE I CAN'T. I had to use real guitars, real bass, and a ton of time and effort to do this. Not to mention software that costs well into the hundreds of dollars individually, thousands collectively. KTHXBYE Megaman 2 - Wily Stage 1 Tindeck Audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENJabKUzUXE Xenogears' "Awakening" & Final Fantasy 7's "Jenova" (ignore filename) Tindeck Audio Lufia I&II - Various themes Tindeck Audio Seriously, you are the biggest douche I've ever had the pleasure of coming across spewing crap about OCR. I was speaking idiomatically.

You seriously just registered to say you don't like Shin
you are precious cupcakes "Hey guys your music is shit" "No listen to my xenogears remix fffff" as a caveat I have nearly 5GB of OCR music on my drives and I think a lot of you do good work but this whole boo-hoo display reflects badly on the entire community What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

i WISH it was that easy! If all I had to do is slap on a drum loop to a midi, I'd have like a million remixes posted, and wouldn't have had to spend all that time learning about production skills!
you don't have to like ocr! i don't wanna attack anyone, but I do want to defend my work... How ya doing, buddy?

Likewise, OCR had a fair deal of dance music made in FL within the first few years of its founding. If you want to hate on that specifically, even though tens of thousands of people like it, fine, go ahead. But just don't try to paint our entire library as being only that kind of music, as our current selection of remixes is drastically different than it was in those early years. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Maybe we ought to spend a little less time worrying about Shin's particular opinions and a little more time worrying about why your "Head Submissions Evaluator" is so ridiculously thin-skinned.
If people are allowed to hate things, then why should Liontamer flip out and call people "snobs with no taste"? Most amazing jew boots |
If you get hated all the time, do you guys jump into any old random forum just to defend the site wherever? Liontamer has been posting here for a while, but the rest of you guys have joined specifically to object. That makes you guys look incredibly defensive, which in turn makes people think "Jeez if they're so up in arms about this maybe there's something to that criticism."
It'd also help to point out that Shin pulled a similar "I am a dance music afithianado" routine during the Super Audio Universal Showdown and created another semi-shitstorm over there. That still doesn't excuse getting incredibly butthurt because ONE PERSON on the INTERNET made a disparaging remark about your website, but I figured context couldn't hurt. Also dammit now that I'm thinking about this, I bet there's another 500-song torrent or two that I could download. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |

Larry isn't thin-skinned at all, neither am I; but we'll call a spade a spade and get a good laugh out of it at the same time. We always love to hear absurd attacks and criticism of the site or the judges. The best is when we get completely opposite complaints, eg. people saying we don't post any techno or we don't post "real" techno, and are too biased towards non-techno music.
Anyway, like I said, this isn't an opinion issue, it's an issue of fact, and objectively speaking, OCR doesn't consist of 13-year olds making 90s eurodance with FL. The closest the site came to that was in the first few years it was around, since then the repertoire we've posted has been extraordinarily varied. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Aw... Bleck thinks he can deal in silly.
