I think the cover it's decent enough, but yeah CE wins pretty much if we compare them.

Anyone read the PSM review yet? Apparently, they confirm the US version supports widescreen. I MUST know if this is true...

Goddamit, if it was anyone else but PSM, I would've believed that. Please let it be true. Progressive Scan isn't as desired, since the game will get a definite boost if played on a PS3.

Well considering that PSM mails me their magazines despite the fact that I've never signed up for it, I'll know first-hand once they send them out...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hard to say since the 14 page review doesn't specifically mention the Widescreen option as it's only listed on the second page with the product information such as "Widerscreen" & "Pro Logic II".

Also it looks like it was true about some of the cutscenes where the dialogue was just text in the Japanese version being voiced over for the US release.

For some odd reason they still refer to Mist Quickenings as "Mist Knacks" and the side bars feature the typo "Inside FFXIII" but details some specifics about FFXII.

lol, It's JUST a cover guys. There's no need to get worked up over some mere cover.

2nd of all. Final Fantasy XII has a more war-esque theme to it. So it's no suprise that Square Enix would come up with that cover.

Eh? What's this widescreen stuff all about? I like full screen way better than widescreen.
As for the box art... I always like the original Japanese box art better but US always gotta mess around with it. All they had to do is translate the text and do VA; that's all! But whatever, can't do anything about it; as long as we get to play the game.

Full screen better than wide? Surely you jest.

As for the NA cover, it's definitely better than FFX and FFIX and whatever, so I have no complaints. The CE cover is still a lot better though.

I already pre-ordered the CE version last Monday, woot! Now to wait for the end of October to come around >_>

I actually like this cover. But has anyone else notice the 'Final Fantasy XII' is missing the image in the logo? Up until now every NA Final Fantasy box art included the theme image in the logo. Most of the ones without it were fake.

lol, You guys need to get over it. Like I said, it's just a cover (nothing more). I mean, you're getting FFXII just to enjoy the features that the new Final Fantasy has. Not criticize on the cover itself. If this were the case (criticizing the cover in all), then you would've wasted some $49.99+ tax for just criticizing the DVD game cover.

I mean, it's just ridiculous. JP/North America have their own style of designing the game cover. It's just simple as that.

I don't think it's so much the cover art as is the non inclusion of any Japanese voices, but I'm through and through with that, I'm actually wanting to hear this in English, for the first time. It just seems more... "natural".

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It's for people with widescreen TVs. Without widescreen modes, we have to play the game stretched or with bars on the side. I personally am amazed that Square still hasn't got with the times and isn't putting this in every game.

I mean, Enix got their shit down tight, with Radiata Stories, Star Ocean 3, and DQVIII all having widescreen, but Kingdom Hearts 2 lacks it. WTF kind of "cutting edge-graphics" can Square advertise without widescreen support?

Don't even get me started on progressive scan, which should be standard in every game release...

I swear to god, if Sony doesn't require 720p and widescreen with all PS3 games, I'll never fucking buy one just to spite them.

Just take it easy guys. Because, it won't do you guys any good if you keep whining all the time like lil kids. It's just better to get the FFXII on PS2. And not worry about stuff like the FFXII game cover. Rather than complain, you should do other stuff for a change. Like play other videogames (lik I am with FFIX and the many old school RPGs). While waiting for FFXII.

I think I'll throw in my 2 cents here...

FF12 will likely be the worst of the 12 standard FF games.
I think starting with FF8, the series started on eye-candy and so-so storylines with inferior gameplay. I'm no longer a fan of the series even though I love FF1-7 very much. My favorite game to ever come out in existance is FF4, too.

Goodbye FF, Hello Dragon Quest.

So... basically when the gameplay got harder than:

Fight
Magic
Run
Item

FF8 was difficult in terms of picking up the gameplay, but have you actually played FFIX, FFX, FFX-2 and FFXI? I think they learned their lesson with FF8.

FFIV was my favourite game too, but that doesn't mean I rule out FFX because it looked nice.

Well, keep in mind that he enjoys DQ games, so take that as you will. I personally have issues with DQ games in the gameplay and story department. Other people like them, but I'm not one of them.

I haven't touched FF12's system outside of the demo they released with DQ8, but some gameplay elements do remind me a lot of Vagrant Story and I'd really like to see how that would work out in the finished version. Besides, a perfect score from Famitsu is promising.

Here's to the 31st of October.

Now I wish I didn't go so far in the XSIII thread ;___; my bad.

Futhermore, I wish my dreams weren't so mean to me, teasing me like that. ;___; (getting the game 2 months before release in the mail, only to be woken up by the stupid alarm clock.)

A bit of an amusing story involving the game...

I was wandering around in the mall the other day, and walked into the resident Gamestop there. After looking around for a little bit, I heard something familiar coming from the demo station. The titlescreen movie loop to Final Fantasy XII was playing on the PS2 station. So I walked over and got a closer look.

Sure enough, it seems that the station had replaced the PS2 with a Japanese system with the JP copy of FFXII playing. So I picked up the controller and started the game. I skipped past all the intro cutscenes since I wanted to save them for when I got the game, but started up in the tutorial/intro sequence. Everything seemed pretty straightforward, as characters introduced you to walking around, moving the camera, interacting with the world, and basic fighting.

In any case... I played around for something like 15 minutes, before a rather tall figure was standing next to me.

"Hey man, how's it going?"

Not recognizing that he was an employee, or knowing who it was really, I responded "Pretty good."

"Yeah, um, I'm going to have to cut you off... It seems we left the controller attached. We were just going to have the title movie looping for people to see. Can't have anyone playing it, since it isn't out yet."

Busted. So, cooperatingly, I put down the controller and let him take care of setting it back up again. Though we did have a nice conversation about the game. He was skeptical about it, since he was reading about people in Japan that pretty much used the Gambit system to program the party to completely automate itself against any encounter in the game. Sounds somewhat bogus to me, since other folks have also said that the boss fights are pretty challenging and keep you on your toes even with heavy Gambiting.

Anyways, random story from my weekend. Carry on

The DW series has the most creative monsters - besides their actual design - that i've ever seen. Metal Slimes / Babbles have such high defense that you either miss or attack 1. They also have a high running away rate. But if they don't run and you kill one eventually, you get 1000 or 10,000 EXP. Experience that makes you drool.
Goldman from DW1 was brilliant. Find one, kill it, get a large amount of highly needed gold to buy stuff. The monsters are overall filled with many status effecting magic spells which creates something more fun to deal with.

Even though I like a lot of spells in FF games, I believe that all the spells in DW are highly needed for different battles. I value the spells in DW.

The weapons & armor are creative. Some weapons attack one enemy. Others, like Boomerangs, attack all on screen, another attacks all in one enemy group-type.

The heavy amount of world & cave traveling beats FF games too. You usally get a boat very early in DW games and I feel like I'm really going around in the world and that I'm playing a game with no limits or stops. There are many area-limits in most FF games and many stops.

DW8 is the first DW with a true storyline with a plot and characters that have characterization. The amount of stops that the storyline uses are at opportune times instead of hinder the ability to travel the world and caves at my leisure.

Finally, in this series of freedom, going to casinos to spend lots of time winning the best armor piece(s) in the game is fun.
Collecting small medals in drawers, chests, wells, etc, is a great add-on for using these to buy exceptional stuff from a collector.

While I give FF4 a 10/10 and no DW game a perfect score, the DW series gets a 8.75 on average and the FF series only gets a 7.75.

I was speaking idiomatically.
