Circuit City, to my knowledge, isn't taking preorders (at least locally), and Toys R Us nearby said they were taking 15 preorders and will have 30 more for the launch day. I'll still get it, and I'm willing to camp.

Looks just like Goldeneye 007 in terms of gameplay. Looks like it plays JUST like Goldeneye 007 with the new wii-mote control scheme of course. Hopefully it'll be just as successful as Goldeneye 007.

Wow you're right it looks pretty sweet, starting to think that it will be one of the first games in my Wii collection. I went to Toys 'r' Us yesterday and they didn't have that Wii+free game thing any more you could only get a wii by itself or that massive family pack. I'll probably just get the Wii coz I haven't seen enough of Rayman or that Need for Speed title to decide if I want them. Any of you guys seen those games? any thoughts?

Got up at 4:30 am this morning and went down to the Toys R Us that's about 8 miles from my house. 6 PS3 preorders, 14 Wii preorders, and we were already too late. My brother wanted to go home but I said we should try the other one that was about 30 minutes away. We got there, not as many people as the other one, 6 preorders for PS3, 15 preorders for the Wii and we were #14. It's a good thing too because we were already planning to have one of us at a Wal-Mart, another at another Wal-Mart, and our mom at Best Buy on Nov. 19.

But DAMN! The first people in line for the PS3 preorder had been there since Friday at 11am. That was crazy.

Btw, does anyone know the full list of what's going to be available on the Virtual Console whenever it launches? I'm aware of games like Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and Sonic the Hedgehog, but I'm just wondering if a confirmed list has been released. It'd be pretty cool if Chrono Trigger was available from the start.

We have a 24-hour Wal-Mart (or a couple) here, so I'm wondering how that works. I'm wondering if I can get there at like 10 pm and just have that be it. I'll have to check that out as it gets closer to the day.

Heh, the Toys R Us that I went to this morning was in Kotaku

http://kotaku.com/gaming/wii/toys-r-...-up-210893.php

Quote:
While shopping tonight at the Fair Lakes Shopping Center in northern Virginia, my wife and I happened upon ten determined gamers (or related parties) camping outside the local Toys R' Us. We decided to interview them, for the sake of science, journalism, and the American way.

All ten gamers showed up near-simultaneously at approximately 1:00 pm. Our interview took place at 10:00 pm, nine hours into their 22 hour wait. Temperatures had already dropped to fourty degrees F, and had hopefully plateaued.

The first order of interview-business was to establish who was waiting for the PS3 and who was waiting for the Wii. Of the ten campers, seven were waiting for both consoles. Another couple was waiting for a PS3 and a Wii, only one each between the two of them, while the final Wii had a lone claimant. If you have been following along with me on the math, that is 8 PS3's and 9 Wii's, among 10 people. You will know it is time to turn the page when you hear the chimes ring, like this... We were surprised to learn that not one of the soon-to-be-reserved consoles was headed for a resale.

Sony and Nintendo were already present at the campout. While observing the campers, we spotted one PSP, whose owner thought he had heard of Kotaku before. One of the campers plead guilty to possession of, but not intent to use, a Nintendo DS. As far as we could tell, it was buried in a blanket fold or a coat pocket somewhere.

My wife got really immersed in the interviewing process and plied the campers with additional questions. Three of the campers intended to pass the time gambling and pursuing a state of comfortable numbness through the business end of a bottle. Connect Four and Uno kept another handful of campers occupied. Two campers claimed to have books handy, and the kid with the PSP was thoroughly engrossed in his digital distraction.

If I were a journalist or a blogger, I would return in the morning for a body count or an update, but instead I will presume that they all get their consoles, and game happily ever after.
And then another person at Kotaku had an update and a video on Youtube of the line:

Quote:
Hahaha... that Fairlakes shopping plaza in No VA was the one that I video'd and put on Youtube! I was talking to the first person in line at about 5 pm, and the kid told me that he and his mom were going to get a Wii and PS3 each... then sell one of each on ebay... the liars.

BAD weather, cold, wind, and rain was coming in (very big trees knocked down just outside that mall in the roads to get to toysrus ) I think it fizzled.

The manager was saying that they were allowing BOTH a PS3 and a Wii for each person who waited in line.

I think when they finally did the preorders today, though, they said one or the other, NOT getting both.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6SPBz8YXYQ
I went there this morning, well yesterday morning at 8:05 AM, and the line was pretty huge. There were about 20-30 people there with a lot of them being couples or groups that would take turns being warm in their cars and waiting in line so it was hard to judge the total number. But yeah like the commenter stated those first 8 people were lying to whoever first interviewed them to save face. The only reasons they'd stay out there that early, 1 PM the previous day, were that they were die-hard Sony fans and they were getting that 2nd PS3 and Wii for family members or the fucking obvious - for selling on Ebay. I refuse to believe that the excess numbers that they took are being used personally. Two PS3s per household is a bit much and for that many people.

The policy got changed last night from buy a PS3 or Wii but not both to that you could buy both and it wasn't limited one per household. So all these couples in the front got 2 PS3s and 2 Wiis. It was kind of ridiculous. If they had only gotten PS3s I probably would have gotten a Wii preorder. I was like 5 away from the cut-off start.

The lady at the start of cut-off was really pissed. I don't know how long this lady wrapped in blankets had been standing outside but the lady in front of her and her son decided they'd both get a Wii so the blanket lady lost her chance just b/c those two were greedy.

But I only went there because I woke up early by chance and was bored. I basically went there to observe and talk with people in line and it was fun, and hey if I got a pre-order then a bonus. But holy crap those people in front were territorial and grumpy. They were telling people to go back home all the time. Didn't want noone to get near their ebay money bone.

After the whole small drama with the cut-off people left. Most of the people who'd been there only 3 or 4 hours at most were real good about it. We all just kind shrugged and gave the blanket lady small condolences. I then asked the manager if they were taking preorders for the games and stuff and he said yes even though they actually didn't. It wasn't really the info I wanted anyway and basically I asked when it was best to come back after the TRX Elmo madness died and he was like 30 minutes and I was like k. I then went across the street to Burger King and sat down with some people who were also line rejects. We talked about games and launches and stuff. It was all anonymous like the Internet and that was fun.

I went back to Toys R Us and surprised Mo0 who works there. He can tell you about the stragglers calling in for Wii/PS3 and customers asking the same thing. It was kind of fun being there and talking to customers first hand about not getting one and how the preorder line was and availablity of both systems this holiday season. Just talking to folks on a busy Sunday and talking with Mo0 - I wasn't bored.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Mo0 had better post!

Anywa, my Wii story:

I walked in to my Gamestop at 3pm on the day the pre-orders opened. I was the 24th person to reserve a Wii there. They said I was guarranteed to have one, so I'm not terribly worried. Hawaii doesn't have that many people (only about 800,000 on the main island) and I'm not near the population center.

Still though, doesn't 24 seem a bit high for the # of Wiis allotted per store? I may go back there and ask them again if I'm confirmed to get one on launch day.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I hate people who camp out the night before. TRU should of had a policy: no lining up on our property. You're just going to have to bum rush the store when we open. That and no fat people allowed.

Not being able to wait would be stupid. Part of the fun of getting the first consoles is being labeled as extremist by standing out in line for close to 24 hours.

If they are making a bazillion Wii's is there even going to be a shortage? I didn't preorder because I want to get some reactions from actual gamers in real-world situations and see if there are any initial production issues since the controller setup is so funky. (I don't expect any though, since this is Nintendo...) I'll probably look at Intel Conroe cpu/mobo prices and decide whether or not to get a Wii in January... However, with Nintendo shipping so many consoles do we really expect there to be a shortage in December?

Holy crap....both Mo0 and Acer are less than 2 hours away from me?

o.O

Anyways....

Quote:
According to Best Buy's Retail Stock System (RSS), the number of available Wii systems per store may already be established. The rumor states that there will be as few as 24 Wiis for the stores sitting out in the boonies, and as many as 120 for the more popular Best Buys situated in highly populated areas. However, the estimated average per store leans towards the high side, as the supposed expectation per store ranges between 80 and 90.
Sounds good to me. Hopefully there won't be 80-90 people standing outside Best Buy for 22 hours. Though I doubt I could walk in 1:00 in the afternoon on November 19th comfortably to pick up one....I might have to camp out....

That was the case here in the city, not to mention the horde of parents lining up for that idiotic tickle me elmo doll.
I'm hoping to walk into Nintendo World NYC and just pick up a Wii and head back home.

By request:

Unfortunately, I actually missed the time when they handed out all of the preorders. Apparently, between Elmo, PS3, and Wii, they decided with 3 cashiers they really needed to get started as early as possible, so they let all of the preorder people in about a half hour before I arrived.

In our defense, about the policy about the preorders, corporate changed that on us at the last fucking second. The reason some TRUs didn't do it was because it was changed on Saturday, and I guess some either didn't want to change it so late or didn't know it changed. It really frustrated me because I'd told so many people that we were only allowing one or the other, and then corporate decided to pull the rug from under us.

I had met the people as they arrived, and it was really interesting to see how totally NEUTRAL they all seemed to be. No one really came across as a huge fanboy.

The day of, a lot of people came in right after we opened asking for the presells, and we had to tell them we'd already sold out. A couple of people got really irate, considering they didn't understand the whole thing about waiting in line in front of the store gets you one first. One person got REALLY pissed because we opened the store early, and I don't think I ever drilled it into her head that whether we had opened at 9:15 or 10 AM, she wouldn't have gotten one. She was just irate that the store had opened early.

It's actually pretty cool that our store ended up in Kotaku. I should try to contact them, see if I can put up a defense.

I'd go with Canadians for the most part are pretty chill while people in general are assholes when put in extremes. Besides the very first people who had been there since the afternoon before, everyone else was pretty cool and we just stood there and talked about stuff. Really, I went there for the experience and the off chance that I might get a Wii and I wasn't really disappointed. The look on people's faces as they passed by in their cars was totally worth it.

People didn't tell the people behind the 4th person that they wouldn't be getting a unit? "Hey, you, yeah, number 5. They aren't getting more than 4 units, sorry." And that takes care of that. People would leave and wouldn't stand in line for hours to get nothing. They wouldn't be cranky come 10 AM and the people in line don't have to be cockmagnets to each other.

I guess though it's a different story if you plan on being a shitballoon like the people Acer was describing and trying to grab two units for yourself.

It seems like courtesy is dead. No one tried taking anyone else's spot when I was in my line, and many of the other stories from around the city that I've heard have similarily had no issues whatsoever. Like was said before, you think most grown adults wouldn't have to worry about other people cutting them in line like some little 6 year old would.
