While I loved the music in all 3 games think of the battle system from 3, the story of 1, and the music of 2! Thats one badass game we got there.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I was gonna fight the last boss when my computer messed up....thus I never managed to complete Grandia II. The storyline was alright, neat battle system but unfortunately I never got around finishing it. Maybe I'll start up again someday.
Just completed Grandia III last week. I gotta agree there's nothing much with the storyline, sometimes I feel like I'm playing just for the sake of completing it (I hate playing games and leaving them hanging). A pretty cheesy storyline plus Alfina jamming my nerves a couple of times, I think the only thing that saved it was the battle system and the music. Now I'm on the Shadow Hearts: Covenant. That game is pretty neat though I wished I played the first one. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Grandia II has the most badass main character I've ever controlled. Ryudo simply rocks the house.
Elena: You cold unfeeling..BRUTE! Ryudo: Geohand. Cold, unfeeling Geohound. Ryudo: Just be sure to change his litter twice a day. Ryudo: Cut the waterworks kid, there is a tooth fairy. And my most favorite line of all.. Ryudo: I'm sorry but were you waiting for me to give a damn? !!! XD III isn't a great as I had hoped(SE so yea..). What made it addicting though was the rare items you can find. I still need to get Spirit Staff to complete Alfina. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Be glad that you can't finish Grandia II, because that game had one of the latest final bosses in any RPG that I've played. The ending itself was also pretty disappointing, especially compared to the awesomeness that was Grandia I (you just have to love Leen).
I haven't played Grandia III, and since a European release is unlikely, I probably won't, if only the torrent wasn't such a huge ass file. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Quite frankly, Grandia II is one of my favorite games that I have ever played. Every game has its weakpoints, of course but even still it was a great time. It had incredible character development and the battle system was indeed very very fun. It just felt like the game should never end, and even after it did I have replayed it multiple times. The soundtrack was excellent, I thought. The only track that I didn't really come to love was the "You were surprised!" battle theme. Every other piece I came to really admire; Iwadare really did an excellent job of setting the moods of places with the music.
Keep in mind, I am the kind of guy who trained all the characters to level 52 for the Melfice battle, just so I could beat him without getting hit. Lol :-) There were a few very depressing things about Grandia II. I must admit, the final boss was indeed the most depressing boss in the whole game, if not the most depressing boss that I have ever fought in my life. Also (in comparison to Grandia Xtreme) the magic was very VERY overpowered; you didn't really have to do quite so much work to get really good magic, as well as having all those skills. I could get my characters to cast things like Zap! and Burnflame instantly. Grandia III however, the magic was better than both II and Xtreme. I thought it was just right in the balance department. I have never played Grandia I, although many people tell me that it is better than Grandia II, which I find hard to believe. I own the game and I have tried to sit through the painstaking graphics, and I just couldn't do it. I get to like the first field and I am just like UGHHHHHHhhhhh....... I couldn't do it. Maybe someday I will be able to when I'm bored enough. Grandia Xtreme was.......eh. It is indeed very dungeon-based, which I kind of like and kind of don't. I don't really remember much of the storyline, which goes to say that it wasn't very good, because if ANYONE asked me the storyline of Grandia II, I could pretty much recite it perfectly for them. The soundtracks, I don't really remember very much of them. The only two that are "worthy" of my remembrance are the battle theme, and the Zenothlee battle theme. Those two are great pieces of work. I sort of like how in Grandia Xtreme, you can go back into the dungeon with JUST Evann and kill things by yourself. My brother and I are certainly the "training" types of guys, so our Evann is now like level 170 and we can beat Zenothlee over and over without getting hit. Yes I must admit, Grandia III was quite a letdown. It frustrated me that I couldn't really improve their INI stat, and they were always a LOT (not just a little, friends) slower than everyone else as far as "ACT" is concerned, which isn't actually a stat, which also depressed me. Yes, the soundtrack for the Baccula settlement was something worth killing yourself over. Every time I went through the town I just muted the TV ![]() The final boss was........a pointlessly long battle. I would rather have had something that had a moderate amount of HP that could actually rape you, rather than a boss who is a "pushover" exept for the fact that he takes 40 minutes to kill. Also he could have looked cooler. =( The storyline is rather disappointing as well. There were a lot of loose ends that they just kind of left without explanation. Like, whatever happened to Miranda and Alonso after Yuki and Alfina left? We never even saw them again. I was expecting some kind of further development on them. Also, what was up with Dahna's sister and her reign over the Baccula settlement? It was just like "I built a mall. Deal with it." Well gee, thanks. They could have done better jobs with these things, and made the ending of the game more conclusive. All in all, I still liked the game(s). The Grandia series are certainly an incredible bunch. Yes, they could have done better jobs in some places of all the games, but that is so with all games. If they do come out with a Grandia IV at some point, that will probably be the only reason I buy a PS3. Sorry the post got kind of long... xD FELIPE NO |
